Hey!

I found out about RPF via Tested.com and im a prop fanatic and horror movie fan.
I dont have much experience in fabrication, but ive made some predators helmets and some few other projects just for collections sake.

Im a graphic designer and a young art director from the chilean cinema school.
I hope you can help me with any project that need professional help, and i hope i can eventually help you guys with something you need.
But mostly im here to have fun doing what i love!

Newbie here. :)

I'm more of a digital guy (Zbrush, Maya, Modo) and I've dabbled with some 3d printing. I'm mainly using the site for all the wonderful photo reference. Hoping to actually make some large scale physical builds once 3d printers become affordable and commonplace.

Cheers!

Good evening everyone, just joined the forums and wanted to say hello!
I am a filmmaker in Iowa and have just began to get interested in making props. I have been making films for ten years and have a very DIY approach to most of my equipment. I look forward to reading your posts and getting ideas on how I can make some of my very own props.
Cheers!

hi everyone............ ive joined after years of popping in and looking....ive only a few film props .... from the film bicentennial man... a great film... never got the recognition it deserved... but I love all types of sci fi films..... cheers

Hi there,

Joined recently after long time lurking. Being a leather worker myself and having a kid with great imagination I was often "commissioned" for "Iron man lights", "Thor's hammer" and various leather belts, armours etc. Recently we are living in the Star Wars theme. (A shock right ;) ) so its all about light sabers, Han solo blasters and costumes. As i get easily dragged into anything that is hand craft related it's getting more and more serious. And me being syfy/fantasy fan doesn't help ;)

Hope to get lot of inspiration here and soon I'll give something back

Cheers
Mat

Hi all.

New to prop building, sort of. Made some scratch built items a few years ago after the re-release in 1995. Just a home hobbyist.

My real world experience in building things is as a Gunsmith and Armorer.

Currently working on a Luke ESB blaster primarily but a few other things are lining up. Starting a TFA Stormtrooper blaster pistol build, a droid caller, a personal lightsaber based off of a Heiland flash handle, and other bits and bobbles. Heard this was the place to be to get valuable tips and tricks of the trade.

See you in the forums.

Hey everyone. Im looking to lend my talents. Check me out on facebook chrisswett
redding ca. I make halo sniper rifles etc.

Hey everybody. I'm a woodworker and general tinkerer who just got into working with foam and other materials this past Halloween while making an ax for my Perrin Aybara costume. I got so many compliments on the ax I decided to look into what else I could do and found the RPF just through general web browsing. I really enjoy digging through the forums and seeing all of the various projects. I am currently working on a Doctor Doom costume and hope to have it completed by Dragon Con since I live and around Atlanta.

Thanks for all the great info.

Hello RPF! Stumbled on this forum and I am so glad I did! I am a huge movie nut and am new to the prop collecting/building world and this seems like the perfect place to be for that! The level of talent here is absolutely astonishing! I look forward to talking to everyone and getting all the pointers I can from you all!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Hello! I've been costuming for about ten years now, and had built up a collection of about ten costumes, mostly Star Wars, and was RL and 501st though I'm inactive status for both. I had to leave all the costumes behind with my parents this summer, though, when I moved from the US to Ireland. I haven't made anything new in a long time and am eager to do so! I'm getting started now that I've seen TFA a couple times and am no longer spending most of my free time dealing with final move-related tasks. I'm also finally trying my hand at learning some real prop-building for the first time - just 'small time' things to start, but I'm excited to gain some new skills.

In the past I've always taken care of the fabric aspects of my costumes and either commissioned all the 'hard pieces' or exchanged work with other costumers who had an easier time with prop building but more difficulty figuring out the sewing bits.

The costumes I left behind *sob* that I'm most proud of are my ANH Leia Senatorial Gown, my Generic Imperial Officer (black), and my AOTC Padme Light Blue Tatooine Midriff.

The Padme I made following a tutorial I found online and was much more complicated than I'd realised at the outset, especially with the stretch in the fabric, and involved beading and figuring out paint work with a stencil on the fabric and worrying about things like absorption and if the paint would be reflective and then the head piece, which I made from craft foam and had to figure out how to 'weave' together and then spray painted in many layers over several days and had to dry and wait for clear weather... all things that I'd never had to consider before in costume building and can seem so simple from the 'outside' but take a lot of thought and planning to get the exact effect, especially if you don't want to waste materials (and money), and it gave me even more of an appreciation for the amazing work so many in my con family and beyond do. I've always been so impressed by the work of the folks here in the RPF and I'm really excited to be here and learn what I can.

Now that I've gone on and on... I'm stoked to get to it! I am a little nervous because I haven't made anything in so long and I have arthritis problems that since then have started affecting my hands (the arthritis being why I went inactive - I'm hoping to get active again by attending events where I can sit if I need, like things with info tables and such as my ex-membership officer very cleverly suggested), but I'm hoping that it won't be a problem if I leave myself plenty of time to work on each part so I can take it slow.

Oh, and to explain my signature: I'm 5'11", so I tend to make for a rather tall Princess Leia :)

Hello. I am new here and found it looking for deadshot costume help. If i find how to do the new will smith mask i will do that costume but if not i am doing Batman origins deadshot but i need help with both cause i am new at this.

Morning! (from where i am)

Can't wait to get involved and learn from other amazing crafters.
Hopefully I can help out too ^^

Doing a ton of Star Wars cosplays this year, some of them have not been done a lot, so I hope my methods will inspire some other people.

Okay, obviously when I am talking about characters that have not been done lot, I am not talking about Rey :p
Will post progress pictures soon!

Hi! Can you post a pic of the screwdriver? I confess to drooling over a "screwdriver" a local hobby shop sells; but they're too expensive... :)
Ultra late! I am having an issue with posting my particular cute prop but it's the sort with the invisible ink and UV light. I know there's a more expensive version that works as a remote control, in which the thingy inside the anechoic chamber is a different (and accurate) colour (i.e it doesn't resemble a rope of black liquorice).

Another newbie here. I started working on my first costume in September 2015 (Avengers 2012 Black Widow). I initially just did it as a Halloween costume just to see if I would like doing it. After it was done, I decided to write a series of articles about making the costume and that then launched me into continuing my work on the costume. The article series is ready to post, so I have scheduled them to come out during the next two weeks or so on my new blog.

For me, working on the costume gave me motivation to improve my skills in many areas that had interested me for a long time, but that I hadn't done yet. The Halloween costume was mostly about building props, relatively simple electronics and a bit of microcontroller software. In December, I made an effort to learn Blender and did some 3D printing for the costume. This winter and spring I will focus on sewing and costume making in order to replace and hopefully improve some of the parts that I bought for Halloween.

Hello, name's Johnathan. I'm a collector of many things, Small Soldiers happens to be the main film i collect from. Glad to be here & look forward to seeing what all you guys have made

Hi folks,

I've been prowling around the RPF facebook page for a while and I have to say I love the work and how great the community seems to be overall. Everyone posting seems genuinely friendly and helpful. Kinda new to the world of prop making, been dabbling for a while making costumes and props for short films. Just recently did a Kylo Ren cosplay with the help of a buddy of mine who is a costume designer.

I'm about to start on my first pepakura to foam build - a Kylo Ren helmet! I'm pretty pumped to get started and have watched lot's of tutes on youtube to help out with the base knowledge. I'm sure this first helmet will be my best so far and the worst after I make my next build!!

I'm based in Australia too which makes things a little difficult as we don't have the same brands or even access to the same products that are available in the states and they usually cost at least double the price at a minimum!

I hope to learn lots, be inspired, inspire others and connect with a few Aussie cosplayers to share tips and advice with.

Thanks

Hello to all of my fellow fandom brethren and sisters. I just wanted to introduce myself as Will and as of this day, anything that anyone of you guys need is done. Seriously, we're a team effort here. I hate having ADHD and scattering Pinterest for Luke Skywalker, so I could use some guidance in getting this running.

Alas, I would also like to learn card stock armor with fiberglass, Seriously, we have entered a new Renaissance with Star Wars, and let us enjoy the years ahead.

I'm from Chicago, looking for any available assistance. :) Much love guys. This was my Big Boss cosplay of 2015, as Phantom Pain and The Witcher had a tie for Game of the Year.

-Will

Oh gosh I never know how to start these things. My name is Marcy and I am relatively new to the cosplay world. My first was last September with a Himouto Umaru costume (just to kinda dip my feet in the water). My current cosplay is a Battle Damaged Samus for ECCC and PAX Prime this year. Also depending on how many days I get for PAX, I'm thinking about cosplaying as the Pink Knight from Castle Crashers for one of the days. Of course I also have a whole list of characters I'd like to build... Including maybe all of the Samus suits :x.

So far I've completely finished the helmet for Samus. I wasn't if I was going to wear it or not with the Battle Damaged suit... Tbh this was just for myself and I was just wanting to wear this in all given hours in my apartment. But here's a pic of it. I should also be making a thread with the rest of suit soon.

So yeah, that's my short introduction. I've been lurking for a couple of months and figured it was about time to create an account! You know, make friends and stuff.

Hello! My name is Mia. I'm new here and have been cosplaying since 2007. Stumbled on this forum when I was looking for more Rey reference pictures. Currently working on both of Rey's costumes, Asami Sato's and Padme Amidala. Happy to be here and glad I found this forum!
