Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all,

Found this forum while researching specifics about Marty McFly's outfit for an 80s-themed party I was going to.
I think I did pretty well considering the three days I had to plan and get everything together. Now I'm trying to get a more authentic look for any upcoming events. I think I can even actually source the jacket cuff pattern.

So, Living in Texas for quite a while now, but originally from the Northeast. Never will I get used to this heat.
Interested in electronics and hardware most of my life, but I've had many irons in many fires; from Lego robots and machinery to origami to optics to mag-lev to electric RC flight (before they were common) to candle-making to sewing and soap-carving - an amalgam of crafting and creation hobbies.

I consider myself a quasi-geek, as I'm not nerdtastic enough for most -Cons, but not normal enough for mainstream society, either. I like Doctor Who, TBBT, Warehouse 13 and any shows involving time-travel, but never was one to get into RPGs, FPSs, D&D, or text/card based adventures/gaming.

I do tech support in the automotive security industry to pay the bills, and dabble in basic consumer electronics repair and casino dealing for a little extra spending money.

Amongst my current projects are completing my McFly outfit, making my own Hoverboard and Flux props, finishing up some holiday-themed custom car antennas, and others that are not on the front burners.

I just started in this whole 'props' field, so please bear with my stupid questions. I hope to make good use of these forums and be of help to others.

Your friend in Time,

Hi. I'm James. I like Halo, Assassin's Creed, and a lot of other things. Right now I'm going to school for AutoCAD and I would like to design props for a living. Hopefully I will have some blueprints up soon. One of my current projects I have in my head is a full size AutoCAD drawing of the Halo Warthog and found this wonderful site doing research for it.

Hi Guys!
My name is Mark, and I'm a professional set and prop builder in Dallas- yes, there's actually a thriving industry here:)
Most of our builds are advertising related, and we do quite a bit of "fashion" and "home" work here. It makes sense when you think that Neiman Marcus, J C Penney, Frito-Lay and many other companies are based here.
Yes, I have built for the TV show "Dallas" (boring)
I'm waiting for post approval, but I'm sure it'll happen soon enough, and I'm actually pleased that the moderators hold some real control
and keep the trash posting to an absolute minimum- the forum looks fantastic!
We (I) cherish the few builds we get that enable us to really play. We do produce stuff for ourselves whenever we have the opportunity, but the downside to that is that we're not working...and that affords us the time! The best of both worlds is a client asking for something cool and providing a budget! Well, you know that story...
Happy to be here:)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Oh, I forgot to mention... I'm also a commercial pilot and I've flown LOTS of different types of aircraft. This can come in handy for part recognition, and lots of screwy aerodynamics, weathering and mechanical design questions. Do not hesitate to ask me for anything in this regard:)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everybody!

So I'm new here ;-). I'm Jean-Michel from Switzerland (Lausanne) and I'm working as an independant dentist.
I found some very interesting threads about Star Wars build and other. I not a novice in models, but I don't have a lot of experience as many here! I'm making all sorts of models, from racing cars 1/12-1/18 to Gundam models, from Battleships 1/350 to Sci-Fi subjects. I also collect figures and props, mainly from LOTR, but also other films. I'll post some pics from my collection later!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello there!

I´m Daniel from Germany, near Aachen to be more precise.
After seeing the Ironman-Movies wayyy too late at the end of last year, I kind of got obsessed by them and first decided to build me an Arc-Reactor for carnival (German equivalent to Halloween, but without the pretends of scariness ^^). A friend of mine then jokingly asked me why I should stop there and I thought to myself "Honestly, why not?" and started looking up techniques to 'make the dream come true' (sigh).
After finding Stealth's tutorials on instructables, I started working on the Mark 4/6 on the basis of robo3687's files.
Right now I've got every piece built and coated in epoxy resin, so *finally* I can start fibreglassing more than the helmet and the chestpiece.
As the suit is at a point where I can see completion drawing nearer, I'm already considering making an TASM suit as soon as I can.

But I'm rambling...
Anyway, here I am! You'll hear of me :D

Hello all,

My name is Wes I heard about this forum from listening to Adam Savage's podcast. I thought it would be a great place to meet people and learn more about props i would like to build. I have started an Ironman suit and but what i would like to build is a nice replica of the blaster from the fifth element.

Hey people,

My names Sam I've joined and a viewed this forum many times in the mind set of wanting to make amour. Ideas rattle through my brain as to what I want to do.
Into a lot of things games, movies examples of fav's would be mass effect, final fantasy, fallout 3 , iron man , robocop , terminator the list goes on, I have seen some very excellent work on the forum and I feel I could create something of that standard to its just where do you start as a lone wolf?!? But reading these threads have given me lots of inspiration and ideas so I have decided I would like to make and create war machine armour.. I'm guessing pepakura is ideally the first step...

I will begin to post my story as it unfolds ;) lol

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi Everyone

I've been looking around here for a couple of weeks, and after going to the EB Games Expo in Sydney last week, and seeing all the costumes, I decided to have a go at it myself.

My wife says it is my "mid-life-crisis" because I can not afford to buy a European sports car:cry, but really I've had an interest in this for a very long time.:D

I've been looking at all the great Iron Man suit threads and I have decided to build myself one of these out if foam.
Got all the cutting, heating and gluing stuff, and a good amount of foam to get started with (shopping spree yesterday:cool), so I now have to decide which version to build, probably Mk 3 or 4 as I caonsider thos to be the classic Iron Man, especially after sitting down last night and watch the first movie again;).

I'll post up a progress thread when I get started on it, and hopefully it all goes to plan.

Really happy to have found this place

Alex

If I must introduce myself.....

I'm a long time lurker who finally has enough spare time to devote to making movie props. So far I haven't made too many. Although I did make a gandalf the grey costume. I'm really looking for advice here and some inspiration as well.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Not really new just planning on being more active now. One of the first things that brought me back was I'm trying to find out exactly which converse were used in The Spirit movie. I know there were two types but can't decide which ones they were.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Good Evening
Just doing the introduce yourself thing . Most of my costuming up until now has been historical or post apocalyptic , however I thought I would join this forum as I have a desire to put together a Malcolm Merlyn / Dark Archer costume and thought this would be the place to seek assistance .

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi! I'm Matt. I'm from Maryland, U.S.A. I've read the forums for awhile, but I finally got an account today. I'm mainly interested in Star Wars props. I've built a couple costumes and I have a few more in the works. I'm also working on a couple of droids, but they are longer term projects... Cheers!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Not sure how I overlooked this welcome thread. Hi everyone. I'm Sgtpepper64 or Paul. I'm 24 and from New Jersey. I've been lurking for months and am new to costuming\cosplay. I've always wanted to have a close-to-movie-quality superhero costume and I always liked the Raimi Spider-Man suits. Being only 5'5" I wasn't sure I could get a print that would even fit, so I never really looked into it. After Iron Man 3 however, I finally decided to do something when I saw other people were making Iron Man suits. I figured this was actually something I could possibly do, and RPF came up in my research along with Xrobots's and Stealth's videos. I'm hoping that this can be a place to help me learn and provide some guidance. My first project, a foam-based Mk42, is here.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi! Lee from Tampa FL here. I made my first prop ages ago back in college where I made a full suit of plate armor out of sheet metal and steel wire. The armor included a thigh length mail hauberk which I build by hand and took 2 months to finish. After College I got a bit distracted by life and work and let one of my favorite hobbies fall to the wayside. After my second trip to Dragon*Con I could no longer ignore my old hobby so I'm back at is and couldn't be happier!

I'm interested in video games, Star Wars and hell anything that looks cool really! My first project, a BSG Colonial Revolver from the first season, is now about half way done thanks to months of lurking on this fine site so I thought it was time to say hi. I am currently suffering from a Skyrim and Fallout fetish and will be starting up a Laser Pistol from Fallout followed by something from Skyrim though no point in committing that far out since who knows what will catch my fancy between now and the first two projects getting completed.

Really looking forward to learning new stuff and sharing in all the fun!
