Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello, all. My name is David. I have been a lurker here, on and off, for a couple of years. I finally decided that I was going to attempt an Iron man foam build of the helmet (maybe the whole suit if the helmet is successful), so I joined the community. Yet, I still lurked in the background for a while.

A little info about me: I am married with four kids...two are my wife's and two are mine. Combining parts of pre-existing families is much more of a chore than she or I ever imagned... but we are making progress.

I work in a steel mill, producing things like rebar, fence post, flats, etc. My work schedule is usually very long and exhausting. Add the family into the mix and I have very little time for any hobbies.

I have seen some amazing prop and costume works here at RPF that are very inspirational. I hope that I can come close to some of that amazing work.

Well, I guess, as a lurker no longer...greetings to all.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey, I heard about this site from the Tested website, where the guy from Mythbusters shows off bits of his Fifth Element weapon. The act of creating something slowly and putting a lot of care and attention into it over weeks, months or even years really resonated with me as I love creating things.

So, I checked this place out and I've been lurking for a few weeks looking at all your wonderful artwork and I've decided it's time I made something of my own and possibly throw some idea's around with you guys on your own projects...

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey all,
I stumbled upon The RPF while looking around for prop and SFX tutorials. I make original props for short films and friends projects. I have yet to make replica props but hope to start on my own Inception "Dream Machine" very soon.
Currently I am in the process of assembling my first Makerbot: Thing-o-matic and I can't wait to see how this will help me, and maybe some of you, build props.
I'm dedicated to learning and building skills from all avenue's of prop making and SFX. I can't wait to start collaborating with some of you!

Hi!

My name's Bob, also called Prettyfloralbonnet on the 405th forums. Since completing a set of armor based on Halo 3's Master Chief I started playing with props. I've made two Mass Effect guns and an Apple of Eden with lighting from Assassin's Creed and have discovered a love for making props.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all.

My name is Josh and I hale from the wet and windy country of Scotland, I'm 19 years old and in dire need of one awesome looking spider-man costume for a party in a good couple of months. I've been hitting the gym for two years specifically for this party. I can't say I have any skills needed to make my own but if I can't buy one I'll need to learn.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey, I'm Kay.

Fairly new to the making of things, largely due to losing my job and needing to find things to do with my vast amounts of time. Thus far on my shelf o'projects: modding and painting nerf guns, making my own chainmail, molding and casting props. I would dearly love to build myself a reprap 3D printer eventually.

I'd like to thank Adam Savage for pointing me here. And for inspiring me to stop watching and start doing. :D

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone,
I've been in and out of online costuming communities, but this is my first time here. I have a tendency to join when I'm losing steam on my work! When I find it hard to motivate myself due to other time consuming things in life, I try to find others with the same interest who might be encouraging and inspiring.

A lot of the people here have clearly earned talent from hard work. Respect.

Here are two costumes I've been slowly, slowly working on and are almost completed - a Kirin Huntress and Princess Zelda from OoT.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone,

After reading only one thread yesterday, I decided that I had to register, and join this community! You all seem like really cool people, and all of the artwork I've seen so far has been absolutely amazing. I hope in the time to come, I can get to know all of you a little bit better, and perhaps even contribute some homemade props of my own!

-Cole

Hi, I'm HJ. Decided to register here after being a long time reader.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all,
I've been looking into this as a hobby for a while, and finally decided to do something about it! My only projects so far have been painting a nerf gun black, and a pepakura Iron Man helmet that never got past the paper stage... I know, real impressive right? :p So I signed up with the hope of fixing this.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi, my name is devin and i literally just joined two minutes ago.

In have only been doing DIY work for a few months now and i'm not too bad at it. my past projects include an iron man repulser arm (made of foam and posterboard), an assassin's creed hidden blade(made from found pieces and thick paper), wolverine claws(made EASILY from cardboard and ducktape), and a flamethrower(made from ventalation tubes, a small hose, a toy gun, and some PBC pipes.

I joined the rpf to get advice on how to build a foam(and cardboard) pipboy 3000 that allows me to use my ipod touch as the screen.

I, of course found this because this website is ****ing awesome

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello,
I am a Portuguese man, who is a movie fanatic, who is willing to learn how to make almost anything related to movies.
My first goal is to make some helmets (probably an iron man / captain America... etc.) I have been searching some tutorials where it shoes all the materials needed to accomplish that, but didn't find one yet. (Maybe need to look better).
I am counted with the forum help to accomplish that .

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

I've lurked on The RPF for a while and am stunned at some of the work shown by members. I decided to finally join when I got the bug to make something. I left the construction business about 10 years ago and started a small (very small) business where I built custom made playsets in the shape of dinosaurs, lighthouses, flying saucers, castles, and a buch of of designs (a lot of which I never got to build). Things got slow during this milenium's first economic down turn and I ended up with a nice shop and a lot of time on my hands. I'd always wanted to do something large in fiberglass so I built a life kentrosaurus (small dinosaurs about 14' long). It ended up the Virginia Museum of Natural History. (I'll put some pictures up once I figure out how.)

Anyway, want to do something big again. This place is full of inspiration.

HOWDY
I found this site from a friend and fellow prop maker Marcus. It's funny I didn't realize I had a talent for costume armor and prop making until mid way through my bachelors degree in film. I am of course now a masters in film and television with the goal of becoming a director. But I'm also a pa, grip, editor and art director(when need be). I get more calls for the art department then anything since I'm very dedicated to my craft. I truly believe the most important thing next to your script is a strong art dept. If you can't make it look right then how does that help your dp light it and your actors believe in the scene. Anywho... Do most of the prop and armor making as a hobby and for commissions at times when requested. I do like armor and weapons a lot. Something about armor... any type old and sic-fi that helps to say a lot about society and the human or non-human forms. It's fun. Whenever I come off of working on a short or a film project having done anything but art on it.. i feel the sudden craving to build with my hands. Costuming sort of has been around for me since I was a kid. What can you say when your birthday is around Halloween. But enough blathering. I will be posting up some of my previous work soon in various places. It's great to see the work other people do and put into their projects, so coming on here is a good thing.
