Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Howdy!
I've been a long time lurker around these parts. I started costuming on a cosplay site and recently moved on to making more serious costumes that require armor and props, so I've been learning a lot by lurking even more.

I'm a mechanical engineer by training, so all of what I do takes on a significant amount of digital pre-planning and measuring. My first real project is the costume for Grey Fox, aka the cyborg ninja from Metal Gear Solid. I'll be posting a write-up of my progress in the near future.

Cheers!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey there! Got an email the other day and decided that I have been a lurker for too long. My name is Alan and I live in Chicago. I have a wonderful wife and one year old daughter and sometimes perform improv. I just completed my first Pepakura project after 7 months of work. Here are some pics -

I still have to do the thrower and add the sound stuff. But overall I'm pretty excited about it. (The pack design was originally unfolded by Proton Charger over at gbfans.com) Looking forward to being a part of the community. The stuff you guys make is AMAZING! And your site has been a great resource to me.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey Gang!!! Let me start off by saying the work that I see on this forum blows me away!! you guys and girls are truly gifted and talented and I admire the detail, craftsmanship and passion you all put into making the costumes and props you make. That all being said it's good to be back. I was a member a really long time ago and as things go life gets in the way and hobbies take a back seat to children, family, work and etc. When i finally came back to the forum it had been so long that i couldn't sign back in and when i went to re-register registration was being blocked. Anywhoo to make a long story short its nice to be back in the forum and i look forward to seeing all of the really amazing props and costumes you guys and gals come up with.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Wazzup!
Name's Sara and earlier this year I went to my first con and this guy was dressed as Baird from Gears of War and I was instantly enthralled. Hey now, Chicks Dig the Baird! Anyway, he had made his own armor and weapon and I was super impressed. So I've been doing an insane amount of googling and here I am! Obviously I'm obsessed with the Gears of War series and lots of other video games as well. I'm a typical geek and love comics, movies, music, ect. I'm currently working on a Lancer and I'm super excited!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everyone, my name is Jeremy, and I live in Victoria, Australia. It sucks because I cannot use airsoft guns as aids for building replicas :/ I am pretty new to the whole building props thing, but I love it, it's great fun and I love seeing what some amazing people out there can do! I found this though blind squirrel props, whom I found through Volpin props :D

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all

My name is Andy and I've been admiring the work on this site for a long time. I enjoy watching the creativity on this site as there are any talented people.

I've got a vader (which kickstarted it all) and an 89 Batman. I'm currently working on a TDK, Stormtrooper and Iron Man. Had a crack at the pepakura mask and had an epic faliure. Will try again with ticker paper!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi Everyone,

Dimitri from Belgium on the line.

Avid modeler in my young years I've been introduced to the world of prop replicas through Star Trek TOS (I've always wanted that tricorder...).

I've just discovered this forum through Facebook of all places.

Looking forward to learning from the Vets and hopefully participating in some interesting discussion...

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi All,

I'm Mike from the UK. 24 years old. I've spent the last 4 years moonlighting from the day job making re-enactment kit for a friend's organisation and stumbled upon this great forum when I decided to expand my costume horizons. I made all the historical stuff as authentically as possible, so actually more practiced with medieval tools than modern ones lol. Currently working on a prototype Iron Man suit for practice and an up coming party.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

hello all! my name is luke. I'm fairly new to making. I've attempted to make things in the past, but never really gave it a serious try or gave things enough time(always felt like I needed to rush and finish things as fast as possible). I've been a lurker here for a while but I figured I'd actually say hello. I've got a couple things I'm working on, so I hope to have something posted soon!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey Folks!

My name is Nathan Longest and I'm a 24 year old resident of California (formerly Virginia). I've had a long held interest in art/special effects and that eventually led to a Bachelors of Fine Art in Animation/Digital Art from VCU. A few months out of college I was hired by Sony Pictures Imageworks to work on 'The Smurfs' and was picked up afterward by 'The Amazing Spiderman' which I would go on to work on for about a year and a half.

During that time my girlfriend, who is an avid and talented Cosplayer, backed a suggestion that I make a prop for her upcoming outfit. I had previously heard of Volpin through his Portal Gun build and after looking at a few of the in progress pictures and finding a list of materials he used I built her a prop. I had never made anything in 3 dimensions in a physical capacity before, but it yielded excellent feedback from the Cosplay community and I was convinced to keep at it.

A few months later I heavily modified an airsoft rifle into a prop of the Sniper's Rifle from Team Fortress 2 for a friend. I was approached about a commission soon thereafter. After Spiderman I was let go (the film industry is quite cyclical and turbulent) so I decided: since I live in LA, have strong connections within the film effects industry, thoroughly enjoyed the little bit of prop-making I had experienced, and a soon to be swath of free time I might as well explore the possibilities of prop-making in a job capacity.

So, after researching and finding this wonderful place I decided to see what's up. Looking forward to gaining some of the knowledge that you find gentlefolk have!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everybody this is Chris. It is nice to be here :thumbsup

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi folks. Definitely a noob to this community, and to all things costume and prop related. Quite a few of my friends do cosplay and convention costumes, and I am looking at putting something together for this year's NYCC. I have a few ideas as to what I want to do, but no real ideas on how to get it started, and I was directed here.

So, in advance of any other post, I just wanted to say thanks for any and all help I may get in the future from all or any of you.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everyone. My name is Brandon and this site was highly recommended to me from a fellow 501st member. I've only browsed around for a few minutes, but must say I am extremely impressed with the work and detail everyone is putting into their creations. I'm currently working on the uniforms the marines wore in Avatar. I've made a camo pattern and ordered a few swatches of fabric to see how it will turn out and what material will work best. But all in all I am very excited to join such genius minds as you all and hope to create some great stuff.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello guys!!
I'm new here, I just found out this site just days ago while I was searching for Jurassic Park cars. I love this site cause I love making and building things from the movies too...
Though I haven't made any replicas yet, but this is the closest thing I can get in having one. :rolleyes
