Greetings. We are Lord and Lady Nitestar. We do many facets of costuming, from Historical to Sci-Fi and Superheroes. We just found this forum, and hope to share good information. We have been wanting to learn casting and mold-making, as well as other facets of Prop-Making, so any information would be appreciated.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone. My name is David and i'm from Texas. I have lurked on here a few times and naturally I decided to join. I love fantasy and horror and Sci-Fi too. Mainly i'm into costumes of villains. And of course props too. I enjoy making replica costumes and props rather than buying them. That way I can add my personal preferences. Most recently I made a Darken Rahl costume from the "Legend of the Seeker" tv show. (One of my favorite fantasy shows by the way.) I'm pretty much an open book so any questions or comments are always welcome. Anyways it's great to be here and blessed be to all....

Hi I'm new here, I'm big on riding sports bikes and have owned 5 before my 30th Birthday. I'm planning on making a Mass Effect 2 Helm with a Tron Legacy mix to ride my newest motorcycle. I own a 2k10 Kawasaki Z1000 which I'm going to customize completely. I am in the process of moving out into the country, and when I do, I will have more time on my hands for this little hobby. Right now, I am working on getting to learn more about mold casting and other methods. As I go along, I am learning a lot. Thanks for the information I've read so far. I've been visiting this site a lot, but just now decided it was time to register. Hope to develop myself into this community. Thanks again.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey, there! So, introductions. My name is Zara Schmidt. I lived in a small town in New York State for the first 18 years of my life, and am currently living in Germany. (I'll explain that later.) I plan to study mechanical engineering at Clarkson, then hopefully get a job as roboticist.*

I've lurked on the RPF for a few years, but never had the courage to make an account. (You professional prop-makers are quite intimidating, you know.)

I started a thread on the 405th a million years ago, intent on making my own Iron Man suit of armor. You can see the pictures on my facebook (but honestly, it's not worth the trouble). However, this was a failure, and honestly, I really cringe when I look at those pictures. That was a pretty crappy build. I want to do better than that!

I've been away from the 405th for quite a while, and I haven't made any progress on any suits. However, I plan to amend that. (Relatively soon.)

Right now, my situation is a bit interesting. I was selected for a "scholarship" of sorts between our Congress and that of Germany to be an intern in the field of my choice. Only 25 people are chosen in the US each year, so it's a pretty important thing. I left on the 29th of June for Washington D.C. Two days after that, I flew to Bonn, DE. I stayed in Bonn for seven weeks, and have since been transferred to my final destination, Lauf. It's a beautiful place! I'll be here until June of 2011.

Obviously, I won't be doing a whole lot of prop-making until I get back. )-:

So, until then: Auf Wiedersehen!
--Zara

P.S.: You can find me on DeviantArt, too. My username is "ZaronianWarCaptain".

*It annoys me that "roboticist" still isn't accepted by spellcheck as a real word... )-: Asimov would have been disappointed.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Found this forum last week and decided to register. I'm a member of the 501st Legion (being DZ7622), Redback Garrison based in Queensland Australia. I have a Stormtrooper, X-wing pilot, Tusken Raider, Imperial Gunner and Imperial Crewman.

I have built an E-web cannon, a missile launch and a Gonk Droid, not much really, very limited in space where I live. Always on the lookout on new ideas and how to improve them.

I am a Star Wars fan, but am a fan of science fiction in general, espically StarGate, Babylon 5 and StarShip Troopers and of course James Cameron's Avatar. That's it for my introduction:cheers

Hello All - another new member here.

By no stretch of my imagination could I call myself a Prop Modeler. I wanted to come here to learn about that side of modeling, and maybe pick up enough of the finer points to give it a go myself.

Jim

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey all, I'm Kirk. I'm the guy that went to high-schools that DIDN'T have wood-shops nor home-ec classes (or at least I didn't know that they did) and feels like he missed out. One of my buddies, Mike, steered me towards this site and, I've lurked here and there, but after this Halloween 2010, I was really inspired by some of the things I've seen. I'm fascinated by the incredible DIY builds you all have posted; the Iron Men, the Stormtroopers, the projects that you assume are are made of steel but are made of foam... Wow. I have never heard of "pep" before but, it seems like that is a direction I want to start with.

Out here in the suburbs of Chicago, I've got a wife and 2 kids. Life is pretty full already with parenting, commuting, working and more working... I think I'm looking for a way to reclaim my creativity from my younger years and put them to work. Plus, If I could start building anything CLOSE to what ppl have got going here on the RPF, man, I think I'd earn some major Dad points! Even possibly getting the rest of them involved...

If anyone can give me a shove in the right direction on how to turn those "peppy" paper cut outs into the hard lacquered plastic like material, that'd be really great. Otherwise, I begin researching now. Hopefully, someday, I could become one of those guys that people go to and ask "how'd you do that?" I will definitely share the knowledge.

Thanks again to everyone for the inspiration and really, thanks to Mike... =]

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone, I'm Tom from Rochester NY. I'm a Senior Process Engineer at Kodak with hobbies that include anything RC and control systems related. I've got quite a bit of experience in laying fiberglass and composites in general (making some jet ski parts), and I've dabbled on & off with 3ds Max since '94 (when it was called 3d Studio R6 and ran on DOS!) but...always just messing around...never found that one "true" inspiration to keep me interested through completion. I've found that now since the Iron Man movies came out...for some reason those movies just "clicked" with me. Currently taking a stab at doing the pepakura thing on an Iron Man helmet and am about 75% done assembling it. Not sure if that process will get me to the quality level I'll find acceptable, but it's a good winter hobby anyway. :)

Anyways, nice to meet all of you and the work I see on here is nothing short of astounding. Looking forward to learning a lot and maybe even posting a pic or two when I make something "worthy"! :)

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all. I heard of this forum from a few friends on deviant art. They told me there are a lot of talented and helpful folks here. I am a leatherworker primarily for now but I am interested in learning to make props, armor and costumes from other materials. I hope I can contribute as well as learn from the vast pool of knowledge on this forum. I have created a full suit of dragon armor entirely from leather and am currently working on a female version for my wife. I'll post a pic as soon as I figure out how. :)
