re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everyone. Im Jamie, a full time product design student. Been lurking for a little while now, never made any props yet but looking to get into it. All the replicas and props ive seen on here are amazing. Im a big comic geek so will start with a couple comic builds, dr.doom mask etc. Will hopefully have a few pics up on the stuff im planning to build, and get involved in the community.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello! :)
I stumbled across the board looking for clear screenshots of Chandra Suresh's Activating Evolution book and was blown away to see the quality of props that members have made and to find such a large group of people who also think it's fun to create replicas of props from TV shows and movies - my fiance has always just accused me of being obsessive! :confused

Anyway, a bit about me - I'm Sez and I live in North Yorkshire, UK. I like most sci-fi and fantasy shows (Heroes, Star Trek, Being Human, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Smallville, Vampire Diaries, BTVS, SyFy's Alice, etc, etc) and movies in the same genres. I love graphic novels and comic books but must confess that aside from a reasonable collection of "Buffy" and "Angel" comics, I've just not had the cash for them (I adore X-men comics but was sadly prevented from pinching my step-father's collection when I left home :cry ). Ever since I was little, I've enjoyed making my own replicas of things I saw on TV shows - when I was five, I spent hours with coloured paper and paints making Lady's collar from Lady & The Tramp :lol
I've never made anything particularly wonderful and in comparison with the stuff I've seen here, it's all very amateurish but I can happily waste hours and hours making ID cards!

My other activities are music (I'm a singer/songwriter and guitarist and play on the local open mic scene), art and writing (NaNoWriMo completely takes over my life in November!) and my horses.

So that's me, and although I doubt very much that I'll ever have anything worth selling, I am already intending to send some business in the direction of a few members! :)

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey, my name is Heather, and I stumbled across this site after watching countless videos on YouTube- particularly about Mass Effect costumes and how-to's on how to make armor and weaponry. I'm hoping that, by joining this site, that I will pick up some really useful tips and tricks on how to make replicas of some wicked suits! :angel

A little more about me:
I was born and raised in Florida, and I kinda like it here. Summers are dreadful (even the natives hate summertime in these parts!), and the winters are way too short. I'm not in college right now; Just working right now, trying to save up to go back to college and major in something. Being an "undecided" major has put a stop to my education, but at the same time it's really nice. It gives me a lot more time and freedom to pursue activities, a "trial and error" of sorts kind of life, to see what works and what doesn't. For the longest time, I wanted to be a Dentist... Thanks to a couple semesters of really thinking about everything, that 'dream' ended pretty quickly. :unsure

My other hobbies include, but certainly aren't limited to:
+ Writing. I'm hoping to either write a graphic novel, or just a regular novel in the next couple years. I also write some Fanfiction every once in a while.
+ Rock climbing. The best stress reliever, and funnest work-out ever! :cool
Daydreaming. Don't we all?
+ Fashion/Fashion Design. Working in a high-end retail store, I have to keep up with what's "in" or "out" every minute of every day. When I'm not dressing people at work, I think about designs I could use to dress myself. I've seriously thought about opening a small business- online or a boutique- where I would sell custom-made sun dresses for women and/or young girls.
+ I also enjoy going to Wal Mart really early in the morning (maybe around 1am or 2am) with my best friend. If you go to peopleofwalmart.com, you'll get a grasp on what I see on a regular basis. ;)

I doubt I'll have anything worthwhile to sell anytime soon, but you never know. I may construct something adequate using Pepakura. :)

I know I probably typed too much, but this is what this thread is for... Right? People type this much on a regular basis, right? ... Right?! :confused

Hello everyone, I'm Dom Baldwin and some of you may already know me here. I am a local-area moderator of The Aliens Legacy for the UACM section, administrator on the Whiskey Outpost (Starship Troopers), and all-around nice guy.

I've put off registering here for quite a while... so here I am now.

Hi all,

I found this forum when I was doing yet another search for a replica of the dragonslayer amulet. I was thrilled to find others that were interested. I can't wait to browse around the forum and see what other replicas are out there.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey All,

I'm an aspiring film maker from Hamilton, Ontario... I've worked in the film/tv biz for over 10 years now and am currently a video editor on TV shows (mostly reality tripe but hey gotta pay the mortgage).

I don't myself, don costumes very often, but I like to tinker with making masks and other things.

The latest project I have completed is a custom Captain America shield done for an ex-coworker for her boyfriend based off my design... I was going for a 30's - 40's industrial look... let me know what you think...

It's a fiberglass reinforced resin casting...

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey, everyone.

I've been frequenting this forum for the past few months trying to find some expert information regarding the costume Kurt Russell wore as the character Snake Plissken in Escape From New York and I've been quite happy with what I've found thus far. I thought it would be a good idea to get a head start on the costume I hope to don for this coming Halloween considering the challenge that lays ahead. I've been a fan since I was about 8 or 9 years old (depending on when the film landed on cable after its theatrical release) and have recently rediscovered its greatness.

I have the camo pants (from Japan - I can't believe I found them; I thought I would have to get them custom made - they fit great!), I had a shirt made with the zippers near the collar bone, but it was screwed up (a manufacturing defect that I'm going to see if they can rectify), and now I have a line on Snake's boots sans the metal shin plates. Hopefully I can find someone to replicate that specific design because the boot-maker told me he doesn't work with metal but can mount them to the boots.

Anyway, it's a work in progress, and it's only the beginning of the journey.

Cheers, everyone!

Okay. It just happened to be in my head. Sorry. My name is Tim. I am a professional video gamer (no seriously) in the DC area.

I'm here because of a Google search for hardening EVA foam. After reading the entire thread plus all related hotlinks inside the thread, I've decided this is an awesome resource and that I shouldn't lurk any more.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone, I am pretty new around here but have been reading a lot lately on the site. I love Star Trek and everything that goes with it. I am a perfectionist in my collection and in my building of what items I make. I love all sci-fi but Trek has won out on my collecting and all else has faded away. I have no room for anything else. I know several of you on here from TPZ and just wanted to say hi to everyone I dont know.

This is a little delayed, but better late then never.

I'm from Illinois, and have been a nerd since kindergarten. Started off with Star Wars and now find myself immersed into comics, cartoons, sci-fi, and WWII.

I thought I'd share some of the stuff that I've made recently.

First up, a recognizable 1st issue Captain America. Though it doesn't look too bad in the photo, I gotta go through and retrace all the artwork in Illustrator, as the text is barely legible.

Next up, my first real replica work: the Heavy from Team Fortress 2

n60715285_33168513_9653.jpg

This was a lot of fun to do- I shaved my head and hefted Sascha through the convention halls of Wizard World (08? 07? 09?) and felt it the next day. I am still meaning to rebuild a more accurate, and lighter, version. Perhaps a motorized version?

Keeping in pace with that, I present Bill, from Left 4 Dead.

This one was my first work with false beards and the like, and is one I love to do, but hate putting together. The spirit gum tore at my scrub, the hair paint was a pain to work with and control, but it did win not only Best Costume at a Zombie airsoft game, fittingly enough, I ended up being the overall winner!

Sadly, this is the only full body shot I have of me in full getup.

Next up was my first steel work, as Marvel Comics Dr. Doom

The mask is hot, uncomfortable, and slips around- but is awe inspiring if not authentic.

Still working on a comfortable system to wear it, but the whole ensemble is still incomplete in my book, as I have plans drawn up to create the full armor suit to fit easily over clothes.

aaaand one more for the road.

Finally, I also make bazookas in my free time.

Hey there.

Name is Andy, been in the costuming world since 2005. Been a "member" of the RPF since 2006, but could never keep an account up until Art Andrews got a place.

Been "in" the 501st since 2006, but I don't actively troop what so ever, just lost interest in it and it just isn't fun anymore.

Looking to start a new life outside of the Star Wars realm.

Hello. I'm completely new to model-making, and interested in learning and inspiration -- some very cool stuff I've seen on this forum has ignited my "oooh, I want to make shiny things!" reflex. :)

I'm primarily interested in Steampunk at the moment (I run Brass Goggles, which some of you may have heard of), but I get pretty excited about SciFi and Fantasy builds as well. I'm very much looking forward to learning from the community, and hopefully getting good enough to show off my builds here as well!

If anyone has a good link or three on how to get started with model-building, PLEASE feel free to PM me!
