Jim.

Name's Jim. I have been making props for a local theater group for a few years. They tell me they're good. Being stage props, they don't really stand too-close scrutiny, but I'm now into making movies and turning my hand to more realistic props that look convincing, even close up.

I've used all kinds of materials, including resin, latex, plexiglass, fibre board, plastic, etc..

Hope to learn new ways of doing things here.

Good evening everyone. I attend a local SF con every year at which there is a *huge* costume presence, some very clever steampunk but mostly Anime. For years I've wanted to walk abroad in a space suit as a vote for bringing the costume thing back to the original theme of the con. I've worked on replica, 40's skiffy mag workups and my own Victorian steampunk ideas, but they all run up against The Helmet Conundrum: i.e. how to make a convincing one.

I don't know why my previous searches didn't uncover the great ideas on this site, but tonight I hit gold with the source for the acrylic spherical globe essential for the Apollo Moonsuit *and* the Space Patrol version, along with some wonderful ideas on how to turn one into an actual too-good-for-words space helmet.

Thanks BAK55 for the wonderful basement-built helmet and the source for the globes.

Next year I shall be a spaceman amongst Japanese cartoon characters!

Hello all, i'm C-Fenix a amature artist and craftsman. i am obsessed with pop culture and film. i've been a collector my whole life but only recently can i afford more of the rare stuff. i stumbled upon this site while researching how to make a custom helmet for a comic book character i have created. once i saw the immense talent on this site i had to sign up, and learn some good tricks and find some more insparation. so far all i've made are some custom LED lightsabers but i really would like to tackle a chewie costume or ninja turtle, but i have a long ways to go.

Hello,
I'm Steven and basically found this place because of my love for Green Lantern lol. Yet I'm a bigger Batman fan and I love seeing customs and replicas from comic book movies at any chance I can get.

Hello Everyone,

Was just able to join last August. Have not been visiting enough, I intend to remedy that now!

I have been wanting to join for quite some time, but as you know registration was closed off and on.

I look forward to talking with everyone in the different topic sections. I have been building models/master patterns for over thirty years, professionally, and love what I see here, from pros and hobbyists alike.:cool

Please take a minute to look at my website to get a better idea of the different kind of work I do.

Regards to All,

Scott

Greetings Programs!

I'm a bit of a newb to RP building, but at the moment I've got way too much free time on my hands (when I'm not trooping for the 501st or Rebel Legions, which is a LOT).

I have a completed & approved ANH TK and am working on an ROTJ Vader, which I hope to have approved by summer's end.
I also have an approved New Republic Jedi, which I'm looking to improve upon by learning to make some functional resin belt pouches as well as a few other details, so I imagine that's where I'll get started on here.
Looking forward to perusing all the threads in here & gawking at all the awesome stuff that everyone's put together!!

New Member since January. I'm an FX makeup artist, model maker, and props builder in Los Angeles and I create found object sculptural artwork. Most of my pieces resemble robots and rayguns. I don't really do any replica work and most of my work is one of a kind, but I have a great respect for those who put in the effort to make accurate duplications. Kudos! Also, I'm a kitbashing nut.
