Hello, been on the site for a couple months but never did this. I have an interest in prop and replica making as well as screen used prop collecting. I prefer to work within hard material mediums so don't do a lot of resin or foam replicas. Currently working on a few projects including a damascus steel Beskar Ingot from the Mandalorian, gold bars from Looper, and making a weapons display for items from Hellboy 2. This site so far has been a trove of knowledge and skillsets and happy to be a part of it now :)

Hi, I'm Guydon or just Guy. I live in Minnesota, USA and have always loved movies, esp. Sci-Fi. I've recently started creating my own movie props. I loved 1960 movie "The Time Machine" and have always wanted a model of it. Earlier this year I bought a cheap 3D printer and have been able to FINALLY print my own model of the Time Machine. Once I did that I was motivated to do more. Since I couldn't find a model of a Morlock, I sculpted and then 3D modeled a Morlock for my Time Machine.

I am just a beginner but really enjoy seeing other's work and process in creation. Thanks for allowing me in and will post some pictures of my work soon.

Hello, I'm looking for help replicating a Native American war club. I love reading about Native and pioneer history, so my brother bought me an 'Indian War Club by Cold Steel'. It's awesome, but I would really like to make it look authentic before hanging it on my wall. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to painting props.

I would like to know what kind of paints/primers to use to make it look like wood and maybe bring out the grain in the base material.
And especially suggestions for a grip.

Please feel free to message me with links to must read discussions etc

Thanks, I'm looking forward to learning and sharing the end product.

Material: 1055 Carbon with Black Oxide Finish
Description: "Each club is approximately 2 ft. long with a 3 1/4" diameter ball head, and fitted with a removable blunt steel stud. For historical re-enactors the surface has a realistic wood grain finish that can be easily painted and customized with brass studs, tacks, or feathers."

Hi! I can't remember if I've done this so I'm doing it now. I'm Bob, a photographer from Tasmania in Aussie-tralia. I'm mostly interested in making props for my own photo projects, not any specific franchise. For example, I'm SLOWLY building a costume set for an urban fantasy concept, so I'm building fantasy weapons that reflect mundane items, like a warhammer that is an oversize ball pein hammer.
That said, I've been inspired to start a small photo collection called "Every Day Carry" where I knoll the every day carry of Han Solo, a Starfleet officer on an away mission, etc... This is a new idea so if anyone has a suggestion for someone to knoll...

I'm a little late to the party. I'm Jason. Huge Aliens and Avatar fan with a little Star Wars & Star Trek mixed in there. Just a collector and sometimes use sci-fi props for little sci-fi film projects as a hobby. Computer VFX, 3D modeling, animation, and film making are other side hobby's of mine but really hard to make the time these days. : (

Hello, I’m both new and late in joining, but I actually did hear about this site like several months prior after looking up several props based on Jurassic Park and thought it be a good place to try out and show some of my ideas sometime as I take interest in anything DIY related, like 3D printing, casting, mold making etc.
To tell you the truth though I am actually starting out lacking some tools and materials(hardly any power tools, silicone, resin, 3D printer, so on) to work with which is why I haven’t posted any DIY project I plan on doing yet and even while I making them I’m forced to improvise and compensate with substitute materials and tools.
Hopefully, I’ll get my hands on some of those said tools and materials to really advance to show some of my potential in a bit of prop making. Just like any AWE me DIY. And have a look at what everyone else does here.

Hello all

New guy here, I was directed here from a propmaker to help find what I am needing. I don't make props but I am in need of someone that does. The project is a custom helmet job for about 4 people. Each one special in their own personality. They need to be light weight and of durable material. These are for a performing hard rock band. I do have ideas and a style I am trying to stay to. If you think can help me ouut, perfect.

Hey folks. I'm just here to hang out and mostly look at some cool props. I'm a massive Star Wars fan, Alien and Blade Runner on the side. My dream prop is actually the Deckard's blaster and one day I'd like an ESB Fett costume. For now though I'm keeping things on more of a budget and making a custom Mando kit for the Mandalorian Mercs. If anyone wants to talk that kinda stuff feel free to hit me up. ;)

Hello! I am Stark. I've mainly been making Harry Potter props and replicas, but I'm also interested in Star Trek and Star Wars props.

Hi to all and a happy new year. Glad I stumbled across this forum. Always interesting to see what others are up to and connect with like minded people. I'm a prop maker, and I also design and build machines and instruments. I have a hobby machine shop and love working with metal. Enjoying all your wonderful projects and look forward to sharing some of my own.
Here is a sword hilt I cast in brass, its one of my personal favorite builds. It is made in several sections that I machined to screw together.

Hi all, I'm Paul

I've known about and browsed the RPF for a number of years, but I've decided to casually (attempt) to start off a proper collection.

I have a few collectibles and replicas bought over the years, but on my birthday (30th december so recently) I decided I would put a bit more effort into looking into the site.

I love star wars so I'd like to set the goal of one day owning the original 3 lightsabers, ideally with as many original parts as I could be so lucky to receive. What a difficult task! I dream of owning an original graflex but they aren't cheap!

In a dream world id also have a set of Stormtrooper and Boba Fett armour/weapons, but I've got to start somewhere and work up to that.
The Mandalorian props have me interested at the moment too!

I love scale model star wars vehicles as well.
I've always been interested in film props. I enjoy making all sorts of things and try to be as creative as possible. Even my wife is a prop maker!

I also enjoy:
-Indy (would love the hat, gun, satchel bag and whip)
-Blade runner (Deckard's gun is an awesome prop)
-Halo (wouldn't mind a master chief helmet/assault rifle one day)
-2001 (also has awesome space props)

...to name a few of many franchises dear to me.

Oh and I also enjoy LEGO. My goal there is to get the millennium falcon (but wow that price tag!)

I'm also looking to (at some point) get a 3D printer, but I cant really afford a good enough one and don't know enough just yet, especially regarding which ones are good and easy enough to use.

Hopefully I can somewhat contribute to, and benefit from the combined knowledge pool of this awesome community!

Anyway that's enough for now, hopefully ill speak to you at some stage.

Hello all,

I'm new to this community so I thought I'd say hello. I'm kinda new to the whole 3D Printing world aswell as the prop side of things. I've been working on lightsaber hilts just recently which has been pretty cool. Looking forward to possibly speaking to some of you for tips & advice! :)

I'm a new member of theRPF although I have looked at it many times over the years. I started building props in 1999 when I built some M41-A Pulse Rifles from Aliens. In 2003, I started professionally working in props. You have probably read my name in the credits of many movies since then. I have recently cut back on my professional prop building career and have decided to focus more on my Youtube channel. Let me know if you have any questions from a professional builder! - Levi Woods, Drawbridge Props & Armoury

Hello. I used to frequent the boards here many years back just to look at what people were making. I’ve not constructed any quality props of my own as I’ve only worked sculpting in polymer clay. My love of props goes back to my interest in Star Trek. When I was a kid I created a complete armory of hand phasers from the TV shoes and movies using modeling clay. Unfortunately modeling clay is not the best medium for anything long lasting. Where I grew up I had no access to information in regards to making molds or castings of what I did sculpt.

In any case, my love of props has been rekindled with the recent Star Trek renaissance. I’m here mainly to marvel at what you all put together and maybe someday I’ll work up the courage to take a stab at something again.

Hello Everyone!

I'm Cody and I am from Denver, CO.

New into building props, although I have been obsessed with movie props and memorabilia since I was a small kid. I have bought plenty of replicas throughout the years, but nothing really impressive or screen accurate. My father was a huge SciFi fan, so I grew up with Star Trek and Star Wars burned into my entire youth, along with movies like E.T. and Close Encounters, etc. I have now taken on the challenge of building an ANH style Graflex. I am semi-confidant on most of the tasks that go into this, but running into a few confusing roadblocks. I am definitely not an electronics expert, I have come to realize. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get! I will find the right thread to layout what I have going on and maybe someone can point me in the right direction.. Excited to be a part of this community!

Hello!

I'm Scott from Wisconsin and have been in the Indiana Jones hobby for the last 25 years. I'm a chemistry professor in my spare time! I have a display in my home office below signed by Ford at the recent signing-a project that is never done!!

Thanks!

Hi there,
There’s not really much to say about me.

My name is Desi and I’m from Switzerland.

I found the way to this community, because I bought a Mogwai (handmade) and want to present him perfectly in a Box, just like Gizmo had in the movie and so I asked Google, who showed me this Forum.

So, that’s pretty much it.

Hi there,

Louis from California. Don't have a lot of prop making experience but I have a lot of making experience from studying and working as an engineer. I've done some custom computer building and have designed and made some random widgets and things. Ask me about my avatar picture and the story behind it. I think it's pretty cool. Anyway, glad to be a part of the RPF!
