Hello,

I've been lurking here for a while now. Finally decided to join and just made my first purchase through the forums.

As a kid, I was always disappointed by commercially available Halloween costumes (these were the Ben Cooper days) so I started to make my own (The first was Lord Helmet from Spaceballs).

Later on, I worked as a set/prop builder for a Theatre Conservatory in Manhattan.

Since then, I've been pretty inactive. But now I have a young son, so plenty of opportunities to start making awesome costumes/props again!

Hi, have heard about this group for a long time through the community at the Starship Modeler and Star Wars The Cargo Hold. I finally got around to join in! Looking forward to exploring all the goodies here!

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a while. I am impressed with the stuff you guys build i thought i would like to contribute to the forum myself.
A little bit about myself. I collect alot of misc. movie props. I dont like to display them in a case or anything like that. i like to have them just basically laying around the house. As if whoever used that prop might leave a book on a table or something like that. Movies that I collect props from are mostly movies from my child hood. Indiana Jones… Jurassic Park… Goonies… Home Alone… Beetle Juice… Etc.

I Consider myself to be a fairly handy person. I like to build things. I got alot of my carpentry/ welding and building experience from one of my first jobs as a stage set builder. we didnt build many props. alot of platforms and back drops and things like that but occasional we got to do some really interesting stuff. one of the greatest things i took away from that job was being able to create a quality/ durable product without having any plans to help you build it.

Anyways thats all i have for now.

Suuuuper late to the party but so happy to have found this place.

I am pushing 50, so when I was a kid I had some of the coolest props in history to lust over. I spent hours and hours cloning what I saw on TV and in the movies in Legos, and dreamed of having the ability to build more "realistic" replicas. I definitely had a thing for weapons. That was also a great era for model kits, and I think that's where 98.971% of my money went when I was a kid.

Fast forward (wow, that was fast) and I have a pile of tools in my shop, I've taught myself machining (manual and CNC) and forging, and I am a reasonably competent bladesmith. I also have had a life-long love for electronics, and have done some cool microcontroller things, as well as (tube) guitar amps. I work in IT, so coming home and working on something tangible is huge for me. The prop urge has come back recently with a vengeance, and I am ready to run with it. Looking forward to teaching my daughter more about tools, model making, prop making, and FUN.

Cheers,
Dave

Greetings from Texas.
My name is Chris.
I'm kind of new to this prop business. But I have been watching Adam Savage's TESTED videos and I have the bug now. Also heard about this forum on Tested. I have had a look around and I am very excited to explore all of this. A little obscure maybe, but I would love to get my hands on some drawings, plans, specs (anything) for the Motion Tracker featured in ALIENS. So If you could point me in a direction I would love it.

Re: >> New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! <<

Hi!

This is going to be a bit of a clunky introduction, and probably a bit awkward as well, but I'll do the best I can.

I'm pretty new to cosplaying but very eager to get started. I'm really excited that I found this site, so let's give it a shot! Thus far, I've made one costume, which was a Jedi costume, but I always love challenges. So, I do know how to sew (which is a good start), but there are so many other things I haven't had the chance to try out just yet.

I have loads of ideas what I want to make, but getting started can be a bit of an obstacle sometimes. Hopefully I'll get to know you guys, and I can't wait to hear all the amazing tips, tricks, advises and ideas you all have!

I would love to use my own occupation someday in my costumes (I'm a sound engineer).

As long as I can remember, I've been a big fan of the Batman universe and I would love to make as many costumes as possible from it. But right now I'm very interested to learn how to make mascot heads (I have a character in mind that I want to start with).

Thus ends my somewhat clunky introduction. Like I said in the beginning, I'm really eager to get started and read about all the amazing things you guys have made!

Hi everyone. o/

My name is AJ, and I'm really interested in learning about props and all that jazz. I'm not really good at introductions... My hobbies include learning new skills, sleeping, and Cosplaying. I've seen many cool things come from this site so it's really piqued my interest.

Hey Folks, my name isJason and I'm a 47 yr old who just got into prop and costume building.

Hi everyone!

Finally! Happy to join the ranks of the RPF! I scour the forums, but I always wanted to just read and never contribute. I've always had a soft spot for practical effects and set/prop building. I just enrolled at Penn State for MET and I'm going to focus quite a bit on structural application. I'd love to build real set skeletons and rigs for filming. I can't wait to start this journey!

Hi. I've been a long time admirer of the RPF and the amazing work cosplayers are doing/sharing. I'm a cosplayer on the west coast of the states and I currently teach a cosplay class (in addition to science). I'm excited to learn more from this amazing community!

Hey there. New to RPF and costuming. Looking to get a set of TFA TK armor from Jim. Was referred to him from someone here in South Carolina.

Greetings!

Long time lurker & admirer, first time poster.
I'm Yel from the UK and have landed in all kinds of life adventures at conventions. I found my comic artist career there, and was eventually inspired to try my own hand at costume-making.
My costume portfolio is modest, but I'm adding and learning with every project.

Amusing story. My first ever costume three years ago was made out of fiberglass, because I'd only discovered worbla towards the project's end. It was a trial by fire, essentially, but gaining this experience and the positive reception have only encouraged me to keep going.

Onwards to more projects! :)

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to RPF (Found you guys and gals via the Tested youtube page).

I have a background in some basic model making, but I am hoping to up my game and recreate some of my favorite props from my favorite movies.

Can't wait to interact and share ideas with y'all!

Just Starting Out!
Hello everyone. My name is Marc (but I go by wms or wmmarc depending on what is available on the particular site I join). I have been visiting the RPF site for years now and I finally decided to join. Hooray! This is my first 'introductory' post and I just wanted to let everyone know why I'm here. About a decade ago, my youngest daughter started Cosplaying, and while I have a background as a Creative Director, this was a whole new world for me. My daughter is quite talented all on her own (she works for a Special FX house in Hollywood), but I looked at her Cosplay as a way for us to do things together and it has proved to be a lot of fun. Currently, she is working on a Doctor Strange costume, which is turning out to be our most difficult project to date. In the past she has Cosplayed as; The Scarlet Witch, The Winter Soldier, Daredevil, Wonder Woman, Ash from The Evil Dead and more. Each has been a learning experience and we have met some amazing people along the way. It is my hope that I will meet even more through this forum and that some day I'll be able to do even a few of the truly brilliant things I've seen on this site.
Thank you for letting me be part of the gang.
Cheers!
wmmarc out.

Hello to all! I'm glad to join everyone on this forum. I build studio scale Star Wars ANH models, and hope to connect to some new friends/ fellow modelers.

Hi,
I'm Matthieu/eethan, I've been reading that forum for quite some time now and finally decided to register.
I'm from Belgium too, (Actually from France but live in Belgium for 8 years ;-))
I'm a big movie and prop fan of course, I started recently by making a Harry Potter acceptance letter for my girlfriend for Christmas and then couldn't stop anymore, I'm currently building lightsabers, am finally in the waitlist for the new tomenosuke blaster and am currently starting to collect paterson trident viewers to build my own detention block camera.
I'm working in the animation movies world and am also trying to move to a guitar maker life in the south of France!
that's it, I guess I'll start posting soon, see you around!

Hey all,
I'm rather new to all of this. I've never made any props before but I have recently gained a lot of interest in doing so. I heard of this place as I watched Adam Savage make things on tested's youtube channel. I'm excited to see whats out there and start building things to share with everyone!
