I have been lurking around these forums for awhile. I collect Hellboy/BPRD and The Goon. Hopefully I can add some of the incredible creations here to my collection! Here's a pic of my primary display:

I'm the typical lurker-turned-member. I thank this forum for the info I got in making my 1st foam build - Ironman Mk7. Had tons of fun this past Halloween season. Time to join the ranks of the fabulous people that I see here.

Hey I'm a huge DC fan specifically the Flash but I appreciate and love all costumes

Same here another part time lurker (for years). Registered to see if it motivates me to finish some things.

I like visually interesting things regrdless of source material. Currently trying to motivate myself to work on some sculpting (not costume/prop related). Doubt I have much to say (may be deregistered in a year!).

Come here from searching cosplay related tutorials. Just trying to motivate myself to create some...stuff. Looks good on a college application, among other things.

Hello All,
My name is Josh however in most places I am known simply as Soundwave (yes the boom box transformer) in some other places I am known as Rat Fink as in the 1960’s Ed Roth hot rod cartoon. I myself was not alive for the 1960’s Kustom Kulture but have a lot of roots in what it stands for. I am a native of Flint Michigan but as anyone who knows the area could tell you it’s not a safe place to be and due to the lack of infrastructure finding work was hard. Due to this I made a move to sunny Florida. I packed up my collectibles and took off down the road. Now that I am established here I have decided to pick up new hobbies. I am not just satisfied with buying collectibles of my favorite things, much like the car culture of the 60’s I wanted things my own way I wanted them to be something from my own mind. That idea is what brought me to this site after searching for all different ideas of creating and making things. I am an avid fan of masks, not sure why but I love the idea of becoming something or someone else for a while all by pulling something over your head. This may also be why I have such a love for some of the bands that do the same. My two favorite bands are Slipknot and Mushroomhead not just for the masks and costumes they conceive, but the message in the music telling you to be what you are and forget what everyone else thinks. I love Halloween as I am sure most cosplay/mask makers do and for the last four years I have went as some of my favorite band members from slipknot. Due to my size I feel I fit the role of Shawn “Clown” Crahan the best which is fine because I am a fan of all of them. This last Halloween helped me to find what I hope to be a new art form and creative release for me. Everyone knows those Spirit Halloween and LTM party Halloween stores that show up around the end of summer and are gone again by November 3rd. Every year before that I would buy the mask I thought I would want to wear and was pleased with most of them however they did not always fit the best. Finally last year I decided I wanted to go as clown from the All Hope is Gone era which is a black leather zippered mask with a clown nose stitched together like a Frankenstein face. I found the production version of this mask at a Halloween store and was very disappointed with what I found. While the sculpt itself was good the way it was painted was not It was also the first one I had seen that had the belts on the back but they were all part of the latex and just Velcro together while I could see this being good for someone who wanted it to just put on and go with minimum effort but as I stood and looked at it and looked at pictures of the original versus this mass production latex I had a thought. “I can do better” I thought to myself and once I looked at the price tag I knew I could. I set out to work with the amount of money I was going to use buy the latex one and while the one I made from fake leather is not perfect I feel I have done it more justice than the one almost bought. I am in no way a professional and am not knocking any of the production masks out there they are well done, I guess I just felt that a leather looking mask on stage should, well , look like leather in a production mask. I am in the process of learning to sculpt with clay now and have just started working in water based clay to try and get a feel for it and so far I am enjoying it. I hope with the supportive help of this creative community I will get ideas and advice from some the great sculptors, builders, mask makers, and cosplayers I have seen in my first week of viewing this site. For anyone who has made it this far in reading my first post, Thank you I know I can be long winded. I hope if anyone else that reads this that is interested in making masks from bands such as Slipknot or Mushroomhead or any other masks in general will give me a shout out and hopefully we can bounce ideas off of each other because I am open to learning what anyone has to offer and I hope in return in time I can help someone with one of their ideas or help inspire someone to make one of their creations come to life.

Thanks,

Soundwave

Below is a picture of the mask I made, keep in mind it is my very first attempt to make my own and is not perfect in any way, but I guess when you are trying to make a creepy looking clown nothing can be “perfect” right?

Hello everyone!

New to the forum. Wanted to say hello.

I am interested in everything arts and craft, and that interest has finally brought me to costumes. Between being an auto-tech for 8 years and an novice R/C airplane builder/flyer I have a good bit of making/fixing/modeling expirence to pull from, but I still have a lot I would like to learn, especially in the finishing and painting department.

I am entering via pepakura, I currently have a project underway that is progressing nicely. I use Blender and Pepakura Designer to build and edit my models.

Between this site, 501st, and 405th I have been through quite a few of the tutorials and they have helped immensely. I am trying to track down a specific thread on one of the three sites that contained a 3D model of a scale human male. It would be very helpful for what I am doing right now. I thought I had the page bookmarked but apparently not.

Anyone have a clue?

Hey all!
I just joined up, I am kinda new to costuming. I have done one complete cosplay that was Salvador the Gunzerker from Borderlands 2. I am currently completing a wasteland Punisher costume. I work with nerf guns and other toys guns as props. I started working with leather, EVA foam, and hope to learn alot from this group.

Welcome my friend!
I love Rome (my wife is from Testaccio):lol

Benvenuto Federico, io sono di Treviso, ciao!

Hi guys!

A friend told me about this place at a con this past weekend, and it sounds like a great resource. I've made a Renaissance Captain Marvel costume, and my current project is a Black Widow one. I'm trying to figure out the best way to make her light-up gloves/gauntlets. I've been sewing for quite a few years at this point, but I'm fairly new to making props, and I'm hoping to learn more about working with worbla and LEDs.

Hi to all..... just started and trying to navigate the site and review all the options here, I am a modeller and have completed a number of wooden ships such as the Bounty and
the USS Niagara. I live in Ontario but hail from Liverpool England originally, and joined as this is the only site I could find where the WASA Billings boat has some great posting in the General Modelling section. Some really great "stuff" done there. Really happy to be a member and looking forward to posting. Take care, P
