OK,

I may not be exactly like the old ones, but I hope I'll be accepted anyway. A little about myself...

My name is Kyle Morgan. Aside from dabbling in the art that is prop making, I am a also -

  • An Auto Body Technician
  • A Gourmet Chef
  • A Certified Framer (Pictures not Houses)
  • A Certified Barista
  • A Digital Archivist
  • A Video Editor/Producer
  • An Executive Protection Agent

and last but not least...

  • A Small Business owner

I've always had an issue not so much with authority, but with arrogant authority. I feel that no one but yourself has the right to limit how much you make, or what your potential is, or have the power to control whether or not your family will have food on the table or better yet, a table. I wasn't the greatest student, nor was I the greatest employee. When I was 15 I was removed from school by both of my Parents, who did so at the request of my guidance counselor who felt that I could not advance in life in the environment known as "Public School." I guess this was due to the fact that I attended only three classes in my short stay in High school. Gym, Lunch and Video Lab. I also, to make money on the side, sold candy and made (what I now consider one of my first paper props), Alternative Identification :angel. Did I mention that I had full scholarships to either the Art Institute of Boston or New York for Video Production?

With all of that going on I was ripped out of school and forced into the adult world as an Auto Body Technician. It was the only real gift I ever received from my old man. After a few years of doing that off and on I decided to put my skills in the Kitchen to use by working at a small restaurant. After going back and forth between cars and food, I was burnt out. So I took a job doing custom framing and liked it quite a bit. Except for someone who was drunk with arrogant authority. Someone who couldn't stand to see another, who had only been in the trade for a few weeks, do things that they were not capable of doing after years of training. Needless to say, It didn't work out. I did however stick around long enough to become certified and receive my certificates.

After leaving that, I lost someone who meant a lot to me and turned into a total recluse. I never really left my room. Watched movies. Trolled the net. Felt sorry for myself. Horrible times, horrible times. Until one day, I was watching Harry Potter and saw something that, in my state of delusion, I had to own. I scoured the net only to find something licensed and totally inaccurate. So I decided that I already had some tools at the ready from my days in Alternative Identification, I'd make it. That lead me to my first "real" Paper prop...

momscamera052.jpg

Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans.

I searched the web to see if anyone else indulged themselves in making their own "movie items" when I stumbled across a site known as "The Replica Prop Forum", ...small little site don't know if you've heard of it...and I was hooked and hooked hard. I Instantly sat down and started on another "movie item" (as I was still calling them). I ended up with this...

100_9183.jpg

Haven't heard of them? They do exist...

proofinstore.jpg

Well that turned to this...

bisiliskpage002.jpg

I couldn't get enough. I tried for almost a year to register but every time the same thing...SORRY!!! Registration is CLOSED!! I started selling on eBay and made a bundle, until some scum decided to run a scam on me. They bought my item and claimed they never received it. So I sent another. Never Received. Sent another this time with confirmation and tracking. Item received and signed for and then...Never Received. They started a claim when I refused to refund their money and against my best efforts eBay and their cousin PayPal tossed me on my ass. Well needless to say, They started popping up on eBay left and right by that seller. eBay wanted nothing to do with it. So I made a few more things after that time for some friends and got discouraged and gradually lost interest.

I took some courses in Criminal Justice and Culinary Arts and received my Certifications in both. Passed my NRA Classes and Exam, got my pistol permit and blue card and moved along into Personal Security and a very brief stint in Executive Protection. That brief stint lead me to my baby, no not a woman, a gun. A class 3 Firearm that is not for sale to civilians. A gun for Law Enforcement Agencies or FFL / SOT holders Only. The elusive Glock 18C. Luckily for me, once you own it, if you go back to civilian life...it's still yours with the minor issue that the BATF has the right to inspect it at any time and you must produce it day or night when asked.

So being bored of that lifestyle I decided to go back to the Automotive World. I was tired of seeing people get raped mercilously by "customizers" that are hacks and out for the quick buck. I've owned a small business for Just over three years now. I do pretty much anything you see on Pimp My Ride except for, of course, the ridiculous things like putting a river or toaster in.

Now I have someone in my life that happens to be a fan of all the crazy movies I watch and supports in me in everything I do. She pushes me to try and fail only to try again. She happens to be a Goonies nutter. Which lead me straight back to this wonderful world. I happened to to click on register by accident while wrestling with my faulty mouse, and damn near fell off my seat from the result. O-P-E-N R-E-G-I-S-T-R-A-T-I-O-N. I'm here now and and hopefully I'll be accepted with open arms and be able to contribute some knowledge and gain twice as much. I've been working feverishly on a bunch of LOST props that I want and no one seems to be touching so after I've gained some friends and some trust, I'll be able to provide people with some things that they want and at a very reasonable price.

Sorry this thing is like 18 pages long...I'll end it here.

If anyone is interested in seeing some of my "Pimpin Skills", shoot me a PM or email (GQCustoms@gmail.com) and I'll gladly post some pics.

Thanks to Everyone,

-Kyle

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Greetings,

Well I've been poking around here for some time, and have a couple of posts in the Han in Carbonite threads. I have enjoyed Star Wars since I originally saw the Empire Strikes Back on the big screen as a child.

I'm a disabled veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and currently am on vocational rehab through the VA and working on my Bachelor's in Finance and minor in Economics. (2nd semester of Junior year).

I was a member of the SCA for years, and since my injuries prevented me from fighting (heavy and rapier combat), I decided to bow out as it wasn't as fun for me anymore. I was attempting to get into the 501st by building a TX suit, but trying to do it by myself without a mentor was a bit more difficult than anticipated and it seemed a struggle to try and organize anything with the local garrison, even when i offered to drive to Asheville. LOL ... oh well.

I'm a member at RS, TDH, FX-Sabers, and some other forums so you may have seen me around.

I'm in the midst of remodelling my office to my Darth Vader/Star Wars motif and look forward to gaining much needed knowledge from the prop gurus in the months/years to come. I have found that besides costuming, I enjoy the prop collecting and building.

After my HIC project, I will then be pursuing a Vader and Boba Fett to accompany him.

Look forward to learning from you all. Thanks for knowledge I've gained thus far.

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hello.
My name is Kevin Hanson, 42, and I live in Redondo Beach, California.
This is my first time posting here at the RPF - I joined earlier this month.
I am more of a collector than a builder and have a strong emphasis in the Star trek genre.
I have many collections in onther genres as well, just not as extensive.
Glad to be here.

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hey everyone! My name is Michael.
I'm pretty new to prop forums, but I've spent years listening to my brother on these forums, and waiting for the RPF to open up!
My main prop interests are Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings and BSG75, among others!
I've been very into props since I was a kid, partly do to my older brother and his obsession with props as well!
Can't wait to finally chat a bit with you guys and hopefully help out a little from time to time!

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hello Everyone!

My name is Justin. I love props, replica and screen used. I have a few in my collection. I've tried to register several times, but I wasn't able to (limited times of availability). I'm a big fan of Indy, Star Wars, Batman, and X-Files.

Hope to gain a lot of insight by reading and observing on here. Hope I can help too if possible. Thanks for your time!

And I thought I was boring before. :confused

And I thought I was boring before. :confused

Boy I'm glad I didn't put everything up there. You'd probably be in tears. But since I'm not a tease I'll release a few more things -

  • Little League Baseball/Softball Umpire
  • Babe Ruth Umpire
  • Eastern Regional (right before the world series) Senior/Junior/Big League Softball Umpire

I've also spent some time working for -

  • The now defunct Linens-n-Things
  • PMP Machine shop (Press Room)
  • Asst. Manager for the soon to be defunct Against All Odds
  • Astro Transmission Shop Manager

You'd think I was 80. :lol

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hey there, I found this site through other custom saber and misc. SW prop builders, Thought I'd sign up while I could and take part in the discussion.

Currently I build custom FX saber hilts and I'm looking at getting into costuming sometime in the next year.

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hi guys, been lurking for quite some time finally made the registration. Love browsing these forums, amazing to see so many talented people in one place!

Myself, I'm a 30-something scifi/fantasy/comic book geek from Norway. My own skill is mostly to do with pen and paper, as I work as a professional cartoonist for a couple of newspapers and magazines, but I have managed to put together a sandtrooper costume, and been trooping with the 501st for about 2 years.

Happy to be here, at last!

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

I suppose I should check in here. I don't do any prop-building myself, but I'm acquainted with some of you at other boards and am interested in checking out and commenting on the stuff people are working on here. Finding out about the rare open enrollment window was an accidental bit of good timing, but hey, I'll take those when I can get them. :)

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hello, new to the forum and finally glad to be able to register!

Can't say I have any cool pictures, and probably not that big of a collection compared to most here. I'm thiiiiiiiis close to having all the "armor" bits for an ESB Vader (just waiting on the helmet - for years...:wacko). Not sure if I'm going to try and wear it all myself or make a display. (I'm tall enough for a Vader, but way too skinny, so I'll probably just shoot for a display. ((But it is tempting to try and figure out how to make myself bulky enough to wear it without having to eat my weight in meat every day!)))

Just sold a Factory X Cap shield, so can't claim that anymore, but it was tres cool. Have a generic Batman cowl that doesn't fit my fat head, and a "Batman & Robin" panther belt buckle that is actually functional and pretty cool, but in the end still just a belt buckle, so... :)

If I ever get around to paying off credit cards and having enough extra money to where the Mrs. wouldn't care what I blow it on, I think I'd shoot for more Star Wars replicas, especially villainous helmets or maybe even full blown displays of key characters, like Vader, Boba Fett and a Stormtrooper. I find myself researching that stuff the most, and there are some really cool makers out there.

But in any case, this forum is great to troll and check all the cool things people are acquiring and creating. So much fun, thanks for having me! :cool

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hello everyone. I'm Eugene from the Sacramento, California area. My costume & prop addiction began with my first costume, Episode 3 Anakin Skywalker. I'm now hooked on white plastic due to my ANH TK and upcoming Episode 2 Clone Trooper project.

Looking forward to spending countless hours learning a bunch of stuff from everyone here.

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hey folks! I am a Doctor from Southern California. I have built more than 80 custom and replica Lightsabers in the past 4 1/2 years. I am heavily involved with a number of philanthropic organizations to which I donate time, money and my art. Although new here, I have been a member of numerous SciFi forums for the last 5+ years and I also moderate/administrate one such forum.:cool

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hi,

My name is Phil and I live in Manchester, England.
I run an industrial modelmaking company.

Started out in the hobby a long time ago building Airfix kits, graduating through 1:35 scale military vehicle kits and scratchbuilds.

Present interests are Alien, Space 1999, Galactica, Fifth Element, Batman. Basically anything with great design, models and props.

I own a few small original models from Space 1999 and a radar piece from the Nostromo from Alien.

I'm presently building large scale versions of the moon buggy from Space 1999and an 800mm (32') long Viper from Galactica (original series).

I've got a huge list of things I'd love to build - if only I had the time.

Re: New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here!...

Hi,

The T props you require plating could be done a few ways;
1. Traditional electro plating - if they're metal try www.rschrome.co.uk
I've used these guys a lot over the years.

Costs, definately the cheapest process.

2. Vacuum metalising - plastic / resin components try www.vmclimited.co.uk
I used this company to plate a dozen resin hand grenades recently (don't ask), and they were fantastic.

Costs, they charged £300.00 + VAT for the dozen.

3. Chrome paint spraying - Brilliant process absolutely any material. Search for chrome paint spraying/effects on the web.

Costs, the company I found wanted £90.00 + VAT each. V expensive.

Hope this helps

Hey everyone,

I'm 28, female collector in the UK. Have purchased items from Russrep (top bloke) and have been hovering waiting for sign up! So very glad to be aboard finally!

Main interests are Alien films, Predator, 5th Element, Terminator, Horror movies etc. Not really into one particular area as I collect prop replicas, props, 1/6 scale figures and anything else that catches my eye.

Have just kitted myself out with modelling material etc as I want to learn how to sculpt for myself. I have a wealth of ideas that I just want to get out and clay is the best medium for me...........hopefully!

Desperately looking for an electroplater ideally in the UK to do a couple of T2 and T3 replicas for me, any ideas? Relatively small items, T-1000 hook and T-800 power cell.

Look forward to speaking with you guys and discussing props!

Re: Blade Runner collector from Spain

Hi everyone. I mostly started reading this forum for tips on costuming and accessories. I'm also a bit of a toy nut and customize several lines. Right now I'm really into Megos(collecting and customs) and have started working on my own Ideal Superqueens-style dolls. I spend way too much time talking about Star Wars and superheroes. I also play Final Fantasy XI as a Galka named Grayson. I live in Pennsylvania and work with kids who have behavioral problems. My friends' kids all think I'm cool because I have so many toys in my house and usually give them my spares.
