Hello felow Hunters, I have been absent for a while but alas i'm back with some new stuff. This is an armor i'm doing for a client as you can see it's work in progress. I'm working with rigid foam wich is a dream to carve and incredibly light then i will coat with fiberglass to finish them up. This is the full armor wich is a true reproduction of the Mashiko female predator doll tha's going to be release soon. Will have more pics as i finish more pieces...

Just posted some finish picts on the Over all work in progress section of the lair....

Like i've said on the pm i sent you. I use 2LB rigid foam wich is great to carve, I rough out the basic shape first and then use a dremel tool to add the detail some careful sanding and it's ready to be coated with resin i put usualy 2 to 3 coats on it for strenth it becomes very hard and durable but retains the light weight the pieses could be worn for extended amounts of time without disconfort. So there you have it i will be making more of these including variations of male armor as well as female with asorted weaponds to boot... and yes you guys can purchase them... :D

Could you please make a simple huntorial. Like show us what the orignal rigid foam look like? so we know what and where to get it.
Is it the same foam they use for insulation for homes? Are there cheaper alternatives? how much something like this cost?
What tools did you use for roughing out the shape? some sort of hot wire tool? I've researched this a bit on youtube - but haven't found they use the same materials as you do. I jsut don't want the Resin to melt the foam if its the wrong kind.

There are many people on the Lair including me who would appreciate this info cuz its a great alternative to an expensive suit. I myself is thinking to make
a 1 off prototype suit and only spend the $$$ on rubber skins and paints + Dreads + masks where we have no choice.

Thanks ***** You are my saviour! :D

Ok Mike I've read your profile, wow your far away i'm in Florida!! anyhow here goes I don't use any special tools to rough out the shape just a simple utility blade a sanding block a protable sander and a dremel rotary tool with diferent bits. the foam is a polimer rigid foam it comes in diferent densities 2 LBS being the softes and 10 LB being the hardest. I like the 2-4 lb the best because it's easy to cut or carve. I get the foam from a company that is about 10 minutes from my home, can't remember the name but i will find out for you they sell all kinds of foam in block form. styrofoam also. The blocks that i buy are 12" high X24" wide X48" long and i cut it with a hand saw. It's the same foam studios use to build caves or castle wall details for films you can build anything with it. it's completly water proof and weather proof it's mostly kept out side very sturdy stuff regular boat resin wich is what i use does not melt it since it's polimer base. Btw the cost for the blocks (3) with the dimentions i've mention is $ 169.00. Hope this helps you... :D

Thanks *****!

The cost for the foam blocks is pretty high. It'll be tough for me to find the foam blocks here in China. Will need to research a bit on this. But this material does have its advantages and reduce my molding cost to zero. I only have so much silicone + resin for making other stuff so I rather save those for the important stuff. Foam may be the only way for me! Many thanks again

Please post more pics detailing how you sand and do all those other stuff. Its still very amazing work from Foam

The cost of the foam is not so high all the pieces i have sculpted plus all the other ones that you haven't seen yet. and i haven't used not even one third of a block yet so if you go by that unit of measure you can easily sculp 4 full suits with all the hardware including helmets with 3 blocks of foam..
