New fallout DLC out today

Yeah they really missed the boat on telling you exactly what happened to the Ghost People. I've also seen a lot of people ticked off that you can't tell Veronica that you met Christine. You'd think they would give you the option when you tell her about Elijah.

I agree. It would be nice if you could tell those two about each other. There is so much in that casino that goes unexplained that annoys me. It's that way with the newest one and that plane up on the mountain top. Don't tease me with stuff that could be fun to explore but i can't reach.

I started replaying Fallout 3 until the NV DLC comes out. I think I know why Fallout NV feels off to me. In F3 you saw signs of the bombings everywhere. You had the radio signals that led to sewers where people took refuge during the bombing. The really eery one, to me, was the radio message with a guy saying they took refuge in a storm drain and his son is hurt. There's bomb craters all over the place. Lots of, what I assume, Army National Guard trucks around. Little Lamplight caverns where you read about people taking shelter there. Oh and another eery one, in Vault 87 the guy saying he thought he heard his son outside, and he was. Since NV had some kind of warhead defense you don't really see anything like that. It took away the Fallout feel, just a little. I just like the environment in F3 more. I really miss iron sights on weapons though!

I agree. At least in fallout 1 and two you saw signs of the devastation via locations such as the glow and necropolis. I love how some of the vaults still have dwellers in it being tormented by scientists but they never really go into detail about how there is still a scientist. I swear all those national guard trucks make it look like people survived for a while before they had to hide underground. At first all the barrels of radiation all over made me think that areas were being cleaned up but it looks more like it is waste from the production of the fuel cells and other nuke powered tech.

I kind of thought the National Guard trucks may have been there before to help evacuate or something. They have radiation warning signs, but that could be for the area around Vault 87, I'm not sure. Although if I remember right the one police station you go to has computer entries from aid workers that talks about people with radiation poisoning after the attack.

Another thing I noticed is that in F3 you have all kind of random encounters with raiders and other attackers. After the Enclave attacks you have Enclave patrols and outposts everywhere. In NV they should have done something similar and had Legion patrols. You can still find enemies in NV, but they are always in the same spots, nothing random. It makes it feel more empty.

I think they did the empty feeling in the desert since it's supposed to be so big. They did have evacuations as the bombs fell so i'm guessing some of those trucks were part of that. I'd like to see some groups of raiders or something maybe who are actually descended from those national guard groups who took shelter so they have training and weapons.

I still miss the silly random events that were in the first two like the Monte Python stuff, Dr who, the guy on the bike delivering nuka colas like his family had been doing since before the war, and who can forget the used car salesman lol

This one sounds good as you get trapped in the labs in the big empty. i'm hoping they use some of the unused Fallout 2 areas and some of the van buren stuff as there was plenty of prewar tech mentioned in both. Apparently there was an EPA facility with holograms and bodies in stasis you could revive 1 of as a companion. Here is some interesting info on fallout 3 and NV.
The Common Wealth in F3 is Massachusetts so I'm assuming the Institute is the remains of MIT which explains why they could make androids. Be nice to explore that more.
The survivalist in the last DLC mentioned those little kids who roamed into the park and he helped, there is a good chance they're from Vault 29 which was full of only kids as part of the experiment and it's where old Harold was originally to have come from.

For some reason I kept thinking the Commonwealth was Canada. It would make sense for it to be the remains of MIT though. Although it's odd that you would speak about a small area within a state, or even a state as an entire country. That's just how I took Zimmer's comments though.

I think they may have expanded out around the area of the old school as the wiki says that most of that area is a war zone and the commonwealth and institute are the safest areas. I have high hopes for this new DLC. I gotta get 1600 points as this tuesday the new dlc for la noire hits too.

You know, I was really looking forward to New Vegas. I loved Fallout 3. But New Vegas felt kinda stale. It lacked the OMG moments that part 3 had. The DLC in Fallout 3 was very well done, especially Mothership Zeta.

I think NV is what the original games would have been if they'd been forced to be FPS and not turn based RPGs. It could be a lot worse, I'm just glad to have some of the original staff working on the games given how bad Bethesda has been to those people.

I concur. I have played through Fallout 3 at least 4 times since I got it back in november. Only gone through twice on NV. 3 is definately the better of the two, a much better storyline. NV does have a bit more to do, but...

I got Broken Steel and Mothership Zeta for FO3 and loved those addtions, Zeta was great, as I went through that one twice.

I just got Dead Money a week ago and finally played through, and was dissapointed. I would have to say, the best thing about it was the extra 5 levels. I hated everything leading up to the actual Casino of DM. Even the casino wasn't as great. I was thinking about the other DLC coming out for NV, but I am finding myself less convinced. What is that new one about? The one after Honest Hearts.

You somehow get stuck in the big empty, it's a massive area (probably area 51) full of ancient labs and are stuck there trying to survive. My complaint with the DLCs is the stories are kind of not there. they could be great but it's got no back story to it half the time. The journals of the survivalist in honest hearts was actually more interesting than the rest. I mean they could have had more about the spore carriers or why that plane was on the mountain or something.

/\ Interesting... That may interest me, plus they are saying that you find out more about the "burning man".

But on Dead Money(and I will put spoiler tags):

If you want to call it a story, a casino that didn't open because the bombs dropped, and about a heist... In which you go through the horrible city, that was a pain in the rear because of losing your stuff, and you finally get to the casino, and it isn't hardly what it was made out to be. Even the vault, you go in there, you can barely take anything with you. The gold bars weigh so much that you have to clear everything you are carrying to take only a handful, even so, it's not like you have trouble making money in the game.

My friend is constantly bothered by the story of NV in general. He feels that the game is too short, as he thinks that the story ends when you get to Benny and end the whole ordeal of getting back the chip. I think that while it ends the situation with Benny, you still have the whole reason the chip is even there, and why everyone is fighting over it. But, again, the story in general, isn't as in depth as 3.

I agree but I'm not sure if it was the fault of the makers or Bethesda since they don't always have good ideas. It sure did seem like it ended. Dead Money could have been so much better but they never explain anything fully like where the guys in the suits came from or where that gas came from. It's the only DLC i haven't finished as the holos in the casino drive me nuts.

Sadly I kind of feel this way about most games anymore. They're good until halfway then it either all feels the same or they have lost their way.

A part of me actually prefers the story for NV over the story from 3 because 3 felt too much like Fallout 2's story. We have the enclave, they want to exterminate all mutants and they're going to release an FEV virus to do so. And you get to blow up their base in a way very similar from Fallout 2. And how could Bethesda get away with an ending like that?

What appealed to me about New Vegas was that it wasn't the story of the vault dwellers or their ancestors, but a story about the world of Fallout and not the world of the Vaults. You don't play a vault dweller or vault ancestor, you simply play as a courier who had fell into some interesting circumstances.

It took some trial and error, but I found that there are emitters for the holos that you can destroy and the holo is gone.

See, I haven't played the first two, I started with 3. I guess that is my bonus. I see the two for PC in store and I always look at it and question if I should buy it to learn more about it, but I felt that you really didn't need to know more prior to that in order to play. I know the tree at Oasis is a character that is from both 1 and 2.
