New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Ok back to the show descussion part. Does anyone have a theory as to who it is that River is supposed to kill? Do you think that it's someone we have met or haven't met? Oh and did anyone look up the gps coordinates that were in the envelopes? I did.

I thought they'd be where they shot in Utah.

As to River, they're working hard to make it seems she kills the doctor, so she most likely didn't. Maybe. :love

It's like one of Vizzini's gambits.

So it seems established that this incarnation of the Doctor will live 200 years and get killed by the American, higher tech cousin of the Lady in the Lake. But what happens if/when Matt Smith decides to move on?

You've got to know that's not going to stick. There's two really good possibilities: 1) It's not The Doctor proper (clone, duplicate, etc.) or 2) Some kind of timey-whimey un-doing of it - probably before the end of the season.

I know, I know - the old man said "that's The Doctor and not a clone" - but that doesn't make it true. The Doctor clone could have just said that so they feel more inclined to go back to 1969, whereas if they revealed it WAS a clone they might have tried to investigate THAT instead.

There's about a million and a half ways The Doctor stays alive, and only one where he doesn't (The BBC cancels Doctor Who and wants to make sure it's "for good").

I think River Song is the person in the space suit that kills the Doctor. She raises the visor, the Doctor recognizes her and she shoots him. Then she would be imprisoned for his murder. But the way the scene played out. The Doctor expected to "DIE" or wanted to DIE because he knew something he shouldn't. His knowledge of some event that could alter the fate of the universe. He called his friends together, sent messages through time to himself, and then left River Song to do the dirty work because only she could understand the importance of the timeline. She is a traveler herself. We know she kills someone, and she goes to prison. The irony of her having to kill the doctor is just the kind of thing the DW series has been up to lately. River must Kill the Doctor to SAVE the future between them.

But maybe I missed something ... :confused

I liked the Gaiman one. It was sweet, especially the Doctor's feelings about the TARDIS being manifested in such a direct manner. It wasn't a 'home run, knocked out of the park' though, which I'm afraid everyone was expecting. Still, I enjoyed it much more than the last three.

Best Smith episode yet. I thought this one had a real 'old Who' feel, with some nice nods and references to the Doctor's past, and some great character moments from the doctor and Idris.

So we finally know the Doctor could regenerate as a woman.

Great to see what a real writer can do without lots of bangs, flashes, and 'look at how cool this is' grandstanding.

Gaiman was geat on Confidential, he seems to have a real understanding of what makes the show tick, and was actually interested in telling a story. I wonder why Moffat looked so subdued in his 'blink and you'll miss him' spot :angel

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

FYI: I was browsing the episode page on the official site and noticed under the 'fourth dimension' section that one word in each paragraph was in italics
Put together they read "We found your message! You're alive! But what d'you mean, my friend?"

Edit: Checking the previous episode there's a hidden message that says "All the secrets you seek can be found here"

The latest one leads to a hidden video if you solve the relatively easy clue.

The episode page is here, select the fourth dimension to read the text. BBC - BBC One Programmes - Doctor Who, Series 6, The Doctor's Wife

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

Okay, how awesome was "The Doctor's Wife"? I'm leaning towards "So very totally awesome", but I'm willing to go as far as "Totally F*in AWESOME!".

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

*SNIP* Interesting you keep bringing up 'Victory of the Daleks', an episode that seems almost universally reviled by Who fans. After 'Love and Monsters' and 'Fear Her', of course :lol

Interesting Birdie, usually the fans I speak with put "Daleks in Manhattan" at the level of "Love and Monsters" and most places I go there's a 50/50 shot of "Fear Her" being considered THAT bad. As far as I'm concerned Victory of the Daleks was only considered bad by fans because many didn't like the redesigned Daleks and I myself think Victory was at least better than "Journey's End" which treated the Daleks like they posed NO threat at all after the build up of "The Stolen Earth". XD

Fantastic episode! I loved every minute of it. The performances were great, writing was spectacular (Gaiman's concept of the show is WAY better than Moffat's IMO and I think Moffat let him have a little more room to breathe than the average writer would have been given), and how awesome was it to FINALLY get to see at least some corridors in the new TARDIS? Tennant's console room was a nice bit, too. So who's going to build the junkyard TARDIS console?

I was thinking about the Tennant console room a lot in the hours after watching it.

Then it hit me. That was WAY too hard to see. I became VERY nostalgic to the things that happened in that console room, and I've begun to realize just what **** this show has become since Tennant left.

Sure there's been glimmers of Who in it, but overall, it's really gone down hill.

**** Matt Smith.

That was definitely one of the best episodes of NuWho yet. Completely engaging and utterly charming.

I liked it. I especially liked the tortured parts with Rory going nuts blaming Amy. It was a fun episode too. I did hope to see one of the older control rooms instead of the last one though. I also liked the idea of the TARDIS picking the Doctor.
