New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

The Doctor's Wife was awesome.

"Fear Me. I've killed hundreds of Timelords."

"Fear Me. I've killed them all."

I liked it. I especially liked the tortured parts with Rory going nuts blaming Amy. It was a fun episode too. I did hope to see one of the older control rooms instead of the last one though. I also liked the idea of the TARDIS picking the Doctor.

I was looking forward to seeing an older console rooms to. I would have loved to see a Tom Baker one. I did like seeing more of the TARDIS, it's been years since we've seen any hallways.

And does the Doctor have a room? If he does I bet it's got some cool stuff in it.

What does everone think about what the TARDIS aka Sexy, told Rory about River being the only water in the forest. I mean come on we all know she was talking about River Song.

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

This 'two threads' thing is getting kinda dumb...any chance you guys could post new episode discussion to the Season 6 thread?

Straker, aside from the Ironside, which was pretty awesome, I think Victory is all kinds of dumb in every aspect. The only thing I can say in its favor is that it wasn't as dull as the Silurian episodes, which I can bareley even remember.

That said, it isn't as long to sit through as DIM (never noticed that acronym before..) DIM did have awesome Dalek tommy guns though :lol

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

So, my kid likes pirates, so we turned him on to "Curse of the Black Spot," which he loved. Special space pirate ending? He's daddy's boy. So we got him to watch the beginning of "The Doctor's Wife," and about five minutes in he turned to us and said: "Where are the pirates? This isn't DOCTOR WHO."

So take that, critics. :lol

The River thing was pretty obvious, but what about the forest? Could she be referring to the library, or something else?

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

Nice Larry. :)

So, the wife and I are currently watching 3 docs.
We're doing the 4th straight through. (slow going - only on Zygons)
We restarted the new series and are about halfway through the 9th doc.
And we're watching the 11th.

I can tell you the next time I catch a Tom Baker "old girl" I will have a lump in my throat.

On the Confidential episode they were showing clips of pretty much all the Doctors showing affection for the TARDIS. I was wondering who was cutting up onions at such a late hour...

That's my thought too. I just keep feeling that Moffat will lead it all back to Silence....and Forest, and the episode where Tennant and Jones were stuck in 1969.

It seems clear what initially Silence and Forest were referring to back in that episode, but it makes me think that there's a double meaning that Moffat has yet to explain. Here's hoping...

Cheers,

Guy

You know I completely forgot about that part of blink. How cool would it be if DT did a small guest role as number 10. Most likely though it would be a double and the only time you see his face would be the parts from blink.

It may refer to Silence but my guess is that it doesn't. Why is she the only water in the forest. He already knows of her importance to him during that episode why would he need to be reminded of it. And I forgot about 10 being stuck in 1969. That will make it very interesting. I'm excited about this season. It's about time this Doctor is getting good.

I was obsessed when the whole 1969 thing came up, and I started looking at those episodes that Moffat wrote, and Blink was one of them. I mean, it is just lucky that 1969 is the key year for both?

I wouldn't put it past Moffat to link Blink to it somehow. I'd be nice to tie some older companions to the 11th Doctor, even though it was RTD's baby. It's always nice to keep a story going, and not feel as if you've cast off in a whole new direction, and everything up to that point no longer matters.

I mean, I didn't see the whole TARDIS-Sexy thing, and certainly wasn't imagining that's how the other control room was going to be used, story-wise. I was hoping we'd see 10, but I guess not. Seeing as how I blew the guess on that, there's no telling where Moffat will take the rest of the story...

I doubt there will be a link just because the two episodes took place in the same year. They stopped briefly in '69 and then left, I don't see why they'd have to go back.

As for other companions, Moffat has already taken the show off in another direction and made it feel like nothing before matters anymore. I don't think we'll see anybody else.

The Doctor's Wife finally cemented Matt Smith as the Doctor for me. Up to this point I have found Amy to be the more interesting character (for more than visual reasons) in every way, but this episode brought all of the pacing and excitement of "New" Who together with the wit of the classic series, really showcasing Matt's interpretation of the role. Props to Mr. Gaiman for his heavy doses of nostalgia as well, that served to remind us that "Hey, this is the SAME guy flying the SAME ship." without going full on "fan-wank".

Oh, and thank GAWD they didn't resurrect the Time Lords again so soon. Whew!

The little girl is the thing that felt most wrong this series. They defeated the Silence and then didn't even bother to look for the girl after that. Odd.

They did explain that at the end of the episode:

"So, this little girl - it's all about her. Who was she? Or we could just go off and have some adventures!"

Abrupt? Yes. But on some level, The Doctor is scared. From the events of the opening two parter, he knows that his companions are trying to keep something from him and the little girl is involved. He's running away and trying to avoid his fate.

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

Just watched the Confidential. Good stuff. Amazing that Gaiman started writing this ep so long ago.

One thing I remember that seems significant is when Idris/Tardis touches Amy on the face. I have a feeling they'll be referring back to that moment later on this season.

Also, we were on the road so I watched it on BBCA for the first time. Holy crapfest! Is that Amy opening monologue in every episode??? It's so bad. And the commercials (even with DVR) are so horribly placed. The UK version is 1000x better than what they are airing in America.
