New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

It's not like we didn't see that coming. She's lived her whole life thinking about the Doctor, so you'd figure she'd want to hit that given the chance. I like the way he handled it.

Yeah, at least Amy has a reason for it.

It was kinda iffy when both Rose and Martha fell for the doctor. Two companions in a row falling in love with the doctor just seemed a bit over the top to me.

EDIT: And yeah, BS on the angels moving when they're clearly being observed by each other. And it wasn't even handled that well either. They just turn out to be stone statues that can move? Where's the coolness and creepiness in that? Biggest selling point of the Weeping Angels, Mr. Moffat: you can never see them when they're moving... So don't show them moving on camera!

I liked that we got to see them move, but I think it would have been cool if they looked way different when they did.

I think Amy hitting on the Doc is intentionally out of character and escalating - all part of the fact that she has grown up "wrong" and that's one of the things that the Doc will be trying to fix when he goes back to deal with the "continuity errors" we are just beginning to notice. Coat / Tardis returning sound in episode one (and more I'm sure.)

I did not catch the coat (Blazer :)~) thing, good eye.

I noticed that the Doctor mentioned that the Pandora's (whatever?) was just a fairy tail to River. That is the same thing that Amy said about her name in the first episode. Is Amy making up a different realities as she goes along? I am going back and watching the first episode again.

OK, is it just me, or is anybody else a little bothered by the constant reference to Matt's jacket as a "coat". It's a tweed blazer, by no definition a coat. Sorry for the nitpick, but I must have seen 50 people on all the different forums call the thing a coat in the last 2 days.

Do explain your nitpick, I don't understand. I was thinking it might be some english/british thing, but I see you're in Long Beach, CA.

Coat: an outer garment that has sleeves and covers the body from shoulder down; worn outdoors.

What about a tweed blazer is NOT a coat? I'd love to have this explained/defined.

Nothing.

What defines a blazer has changed since the 20's so it would be as easy to nitpick calling his tweed sports coat a blazer as it is to question calling it a coat in the first place. It's like saying "Indy doesn't wear a hat he wears a fedora" - it's semantics.

In any case, most people in the UK would refer to it as a tweed jacket.

Bugs me too. It's a jacket not a coat.

"Coat: an outer garment that has sleeves and covers the body from shoulder down; worn outdoors." <--- Jackets are also worn inside, coats usually aren't.

So, time can be re-written?

The Time War That Never Was?

Yes.

Get over it.

I really hope they don't undo everything Davies wrote for the show. it would be one thing to erase the Daleks ever appearing publicly or whatever, but to completely throw away the whole last 5 years of the show would be insulting to everyone that worked on it.

My better half is American and she says the most British sounding word she can think of is "sweetie", as in confectionery. To my ears, the most alien, American sounding expression is "sport coat". Thinking about it, it really sets my teeth on edge.:wacko

My (British) 2 pence:
It's a jacket. A blazer if you want to be posh, or are between 1920 and 1940, or in Oxford or Cambridge.

Reason: In my mind, a jacket stops at the waist or just below and can be worn indoors. A coat is longer, usually heavier/warmer/more weather-proof, and is an outdoor garment.

So uhh... back to the show.
Was it ever explained WHAT happened to Amy's parents?
What if the crack took them? (I know, Amy still being there would create a paradox but THAT would/could explain it following her around.)

I commented to my wife that the BLINK angels were much more frightening than the angels we have now in Series 5. Having them expanded seems to have watered them down in the "fright factor."

Agreed. I think it was Hitchcock said something along the lines of what you imagine is more scary than what is laid out on screen. Blink was the first thing in a long time that actually made me nervous/scared/uncomfortable.

By showing too much, you inevitably will disappoint someone whereas the more you leave to the imagination, the more each person can fill in with what they are afraid of.

If that makes any sense.

And Jack. :confused And (at least, retroactively) Sarah Jane. And Romana (off screen), lol.

But I think this is a bit different - Amy hasn't fallen for him per se, she just fancied a bit of action. Am I right in thinking this is the first time any companion has made an outright, open, overtly sexual move on the Doctor?

Also, what's this "DoctorintheTardis" thing, aside from being what we called him as kindergartners?

I liked the "Flesh and Stone" episode. A sexually aggressive Amy is perfectly okay with me. :love

And no speculation on the man that River Song kills? C'mon, it's obvious. She kills the Doctor at some point.

"A very good man. A hero to many" - kind of nails it down. Unless it's a red herring. Unless they just want us to THINK it's a red herring. Unless...

I'm wondering whether this is Moffat rewriting River Song's backstory as far away as possible from being the Doctor's wife?

Waiting for "Confidential" to fess up that the new season opening title was inadvertently switched with video of Donald's colonoscopy.

"Initially we were frantic about the mixup. Not because we realized what we were actually seeing, but because it was actually rather dull. Donald is really good about his fiber intake. The effects guys said they could spice it up with some lightning bolts but we weren't sure. Then we arrived at the bit where Donald had eaten a curry for lunch and we all thought, 'okay, we can work with this!'"

Wow nothing on the latest episode? Was I the only one that watched it? I thought the opening was a bit funny and I'm sold on Matt Smith's performance as the doctor.
