New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I'm so glad this episode was good. The last two had no character or emotion whatsoever, but this one did. Lots of dialogue, well written plot. It looks like Moffat is doing his job right again.

Which is interesting, because these two angel episodes were the first two filmed.

I've really enjoyed all the episodes so far and I'm ecstatic with the new Doctor choice.

How does a FEELING shut off the fuse of a bomb? It's totally meaningless that the robot could just choose to not blow up. It'd be one thing to have the robot realize he didn't want to harm anyone and somehow transport himself to the Dalek ship before detonation to blow them up instead, but it was painfully and ridiculously sentimental claptrap to have his feelings just disarm the bomb in his chest.

Crap writing is not excusable.

You asking me? i dunno but my point is that if they were going to use that as an excuse they needed to explain it or rationalize it in some way. I've certainly seen worse ideas in 45 years of the show. That aside, you really think that in an episode where Moffat wanted to reboot the Daleks he would have their ship get blown up? Kinda defeats the purpose I think.

Well "Time of Angels" was hella better than the first three so far. It's pretty clear what's going to happen at the start of the next episode with the Gravity Ball being destroyed, so it doesn't really put much suspense for the next episode though.

Still loving Pond.

This was my favorite episode of the new series so far, incredibly well writen and the angels are just bad ass, loving it more and more!

This Doctor seems to be notoriously bad with his dates. Note the 5 minutes --> 12 years references, and so forth.

To be fair, the Ninth Doctor took Rose home 12 months after she left instead of 12 hours like he'd intended. 900 years of time and space, you'd think he'd learn to adjust for daylight savings and timezone shifts and whatnot.

I thought it was pretty great. Best Aliens 'tribute' I've seen in ages :lol
Seriously though, great episode & some cool propage. Check out the official website for some cool design pics of River's gun, the Angel Book (one for Risu there?...hope!!) and the Cleric tech and weaponry.

Pretty sure that Amy's video remote is a dressed up battery charger. I kinda hate that I still noticed that during such a tense scene:lol

I noticed the Angel book, but it's way too complex. It's difficulty to iconic ratio is not where it needs to be to justify making it. And unfortunately it looks like the artwork doesn't match up to the real prop. That RS dust jacket is definitely cool though.

That is an awesome quote Risu, and absolutely true! :lol

Just saw the episode and really liked it. Then again, there has not been an episode I have disliked, though I WAS sort of thrown by the whole "Talk the bomb out of blowing himself up" bit. Oh well.

Iconic doesn't bother me, coolness is my prop barometer. And a book chronicalling the weeping Angels, written by a madman, is pretty damn cool.

Note to self: must track down leatherworking course!

You know after watching that episode four more times :lol I am starting to wonder if River Song is not Romana in a different regeneration. The comment about engaging the stabilizers is right out of one of the "The Pirate Planet" in the "key to time" series (In fact, I am going to go back and watch the episode tonight, I think Romona did almost that exact landing scene.) She was left in e-space near the end of the Baker series so would not have gotten thrashed in the time war.

That would be a nice bone to throw to long time fans.

Any thoughts?

I like the Romana idea. When they mentioned 'prison' I immediately thought she was the Rani. But i can come up with more reasons she wouldn't be the Rani, than reasons she would.

The one issue I have with both theories is I feel like the doc would know when he is in the company of other Gallifreyans.

That actually might be a clue.. her comment about learning from the best but "You were too busy that day" could be very telling.
Did Romana ever have to get driving lessons from K-9? :lol

No she read the Type40 Tardis manual that was under one of the coat stands short feet. I think she kept a log or diary too if I remember correctly. I am not sure why she would not have built herself a new Sonic Screwdriver though.

In matters of all things timey wimey, I have a quick question.

Is this stuff with the angels taking place BEFORE the library? In other words is Song a time traveler as well?

I'm wondering if the diary is something she's legitimately created or something she found in the library. I thought the Doctor left it there.

This is after the Library for the Doctor, but before the Library for River Song and the time stream. That's one of the reasons the Doctor was Mr Grumpy Face....he knows how River Song dies, so he doesn't want to get attached. River Song is not a time traveller....kinda. She has travelled with the Doctor, but I don't think she is a Time Lord in her own right. (Of course, as you can see above, it is speculated that maybe she is) And the diary is something she created.

What were your thoughts on the 2nd part? (Flesh and Stone)

I thought is was a bit weak... felt a little rushed. I commented to my wife that the BLINK angels were much more frightening than the angels we have now in Series 5. Having them expanded seems to have watered them down in the "fright factor."

I thought Flesh & Stone was a decent conclusion. Tense. but man, the last scene confused the hell out of me. That did not seem like "Amy" to me. Waaaaaay too over aggressive. If Amy even wanted the doc, that doesn't seem like the way she'd go about it. I dunno how they're going to explain that...i look forward to some kind of explanation.

The angels were pretty irrelevant in the end. They seemed to be just a convenient meal for the crack.

I would love to really know what they are. I've heard the rumors.
