New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I loved the dialogue between Rory and the Doctor
"...She kissed me"
"and you kissed her back"
"No. I kissed her mouth"

fantastic

Another episode where the Doctor allows a species to become extinct.

But any chance of the human race becoming extinct and he moves heaven and Earth to stop it.

Eh, it really wasn't all that great. It was okay. I liked the thing right before the credits where he mentions how some thing sounds better in your head than when you say them.

Really, a friggin toggle switch foils the aliens master plan :lol:lol

I think it was a good episode over all.

=Mike=

Agreed, I've never laughed that hard during an episode of Who. I'm glad there's some comedy in it this season, I just expected it to be Moffat that would write it.

EDIT: Also, the Doctor didn't technically allow the race to be destroyed, he just didn't get a chance to stop it. The gondola driver killed the fish girls, the Doctor just stopped Venice from being destroyed.

Not the best ep of the season but chock full of great one liners. Next episode looks good. previews at least reminded me of "Perchance To Dream" from batman: the animated series.

Yeah, but technically he never dealt with the 10,000 husbands in the water. Since they apparently eat people, sounds like Venice would have a serious 'no swimming' issue.

Just in case you haven't watched the episode, this is the freakin' ending. Don't click.
Well it seems like the queen of that race could have just changed form and gone into the water to propagate the species. Instead, she chose to stay in human form and be eaten. (Or was she?) She essentially committed (or pretended to commit) suicide in front of the Doctor in order to... give him a guilt trip?

I felt like it left a few loose ends open.

I'm kind of torn with the new series, I really like this last episode, but I'm not a big fan of the dragged out entire season 'problem' that the whole new franchise keeps doing... It's cool and all but I wish they would focus less on it and simply write more short stories, instead of trying to tie everything into the 'problem'...

As for the The Doctors disregard for other species, I believe the idea is that he is focusing on the bigger picture, something is wrong with time and he is trying to nail it down... Once his 'fixes' that maybe time will revert back to normal and his current time line indiscretions will be unique to himself not the rest of the universe...

Probably pretty obvious but I have a feeling that when he told Amy he would be right back, he was actually right back and there wasn't a TARDIS glitch of years, but rather the time line had shifted in that few seconds... And thus the dilemma and she is part of what went wrong

Early on in the episode I was thinking 'huh...did they actually go to Venice for this one?!'. Wherever they shot, it looked good. Then I was kinda dragged out of the story when I realized the space-fish-vamp-girl bedroom was in a castle about half an hour outside Cardiff, lol. Ditto the sewer exit.

They did about a 4 day shoot in Venice but most of the episode was filmed in Croatia which was mentioned in the Dr Who Confidential

Absolutely loved this weeks episode. No super-special props, no huge city-destroying monsters or spaceships, no global crisis... but a very powerful character piece with some cracking dialogue exchanges and a nice little stinger at the end.

Hopeful for next weeks but worried given the writers track record.

Finally a really ****ing good episode. Matt Smith, the right man for the job.

I wonder if Toby Jones auditioned for the role of the Doctor and whilst they said 'No' they kept him in mind for a villain role, he definitely had Doctor-ish qualities to him, which really fitted the role he had as the DreamLord being the darker elements of the Doctors psyche. He really played a superb foil and I would love somehow-someway to see him again. Maybe if they ever resurrect the role of the Valeyard...

My initial thoughts were that Toby Jones was the character you spoke of, waiting deep inside the doctor waiting to get out.

It hinted that this subject may yet rear its head again.

I cant wait

It was a pretty decent episode really. Matt Smith did a pretty good job on this one.

Still smitten with Amy.

Soooo....what is the significance of ADW 308N? (license plate of the vw). I noticed it right away and then they gave it a long shot. Seems significant given the DW and Moffet seems to be dropping at least one really obscure meta clue per ep.

great ep. definitely touched on a lot of the dark parts of the doc's psyche.

Soooooo .. "Hungry Earth"

Well, yet again they seem to go out of the way to show what a complete moron the Doctor is in this incarnation. They let him tell the kid it's okay to leave the church and get captured, setting up his mom to be the one to kill the only captive they have. Lame.

LOVE the new Silurian design though, the armor and all looks cool and let's face it, they just completely ripped off the coolness that is the Predator helmet but that's okay. Also, how did that Silurian shoot it's tongue out from the mask?

Anyway, a decent enough episode. Not enough Amy in it. Though maybe we'll get to see the Silurian disrobe Amy prior to vivisection!!!!! :love
