New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Well, Liz X is somewhere around three hundred years old at the time of the story, but we don't know precisely. It does look as if it ties in, though.

IIRC there's been some behind the scenes commentary to the effect that Amy has a strange story arc ahead of her. Starting to look as if she's not what she seems, isn't it?

One thing nobody here commented on, The spitfires and Base using the call signs "Danny Boy" and "Broadsword". Those were the call signs used between Richard Burton/Clint Eastwood's team and their base in "Where Eagles Dare". Nice reference.

Where do you extrapolate 2850 from?

Upon seeing the ship, the Doctor said it was the 29th century. I said 2850 because it's the midpoint of the century. Even +/- 50 years, it's, either 1494 or 1594. Still not close to 1990s or 2000s.

Someone mentioned the callsigns, but I didn't get the reference. Thanks for clarifying!

He's wrong; as we find out during the course of the show it is really the 32nd or 33rd century. The British government has been replaying the same decade over and over again for hundreds of years.

But why is the Doctor fooled? Doesn't he give the date before they leave the TARDIS?

Is he just assuming that since the ship was launched some time in the 29th century, it's *still* the 29th century, or are his instruments out of whack?

Hrm, good point Nwerke. I forgot about that bit with Liz 10 being 300. Well then, that would mean the 1990 is correct.

But still, yeah it is weird that the Doctor said 29th century before they left the TARDIS.

This season is getting really screwy, Mr. Moffat, and I would like some explanations! :lol

This Doctor seems to be notoriously bad with his dates. Note the 5 minutes --> 12 years references, and so forth. I have no reason to doubt he'd be just as atrocious with his years and centuries. It wouldn't even surprise me if he even managed to mess up the timestream that he finds Amy Pond in, which could answer a lot of our questions.

After all, with the 'alternate' timestream that the Cybus Cybermen were created in and all, we've seen that no timeline is safe. :) The biggest hope with this one is that if I'm right, we could see some kind of reconciliation between the Cybus and Mondus cybermen. The worst case scenario would mean that Moffat might feel like nothing's sacred and try to rewrite the entire Who canon. I imagine that certain fixed points cannot change, like the Face of Boe or the DoctorDonna, and various other events in the Who-niverse that we might see synchroncity with, but... this one's *really* going to mess with us.

Did anyone notice in the season trailer what appears to be

Re-vamped Sea Devils?
silurians.jpg

From what I've heard they are actually the Silurians, either that or another very similar reptilian race from beneath the earths surface, they look great though! :thumbsup

Just saw a trailer where its said the TARDIS
only makes that noise because the breaks are left on?
Thats fricken stupid.

Well, like I say, there's been scuttlebutt that something is up with Amy. And if she really is from 1990, then it doesn't make any sense that the Doctor is so puzzled that she doesn't remember the Daleks.

But a 1990 with 00's cars and mobile phones is...odd. I agree with the poster who said that mistakes like this don't happen!

I wasn't sure which race. I originally named the photo silurians, but later noticed more similarities with the sea devils.. Either way, I love the way they look.

I heard a rumor yesterday that Amy might actually be a Zygon (although I've seen no evidence of it yet)

A Zygon. Oh, it all makes sense now. All those, like, mushrooms growing all over her are explained!

Um...what? :)

Moffat confirmed on BBC Breakfast that the Silurians are set to return in series five of the revived series.

Sounds more like Prisoner Zero than Amy.

"The Zygons have shape-shifting abilities, allowing them to replicate the appearance of another being, but they must keep the subject alive in order to use its body print."

Well, I enjoyed tonight's episode. Interesting new directions for the Angels (the scene with Amy was fantastic) and fun stuff with
River. (I was surprised there was no comment on the watery theme when River and Pond were introduced to each other).
I'm liking Smith more and more.

Why are there alternate titles like Byzantium Crash and Tunnels of Prey Mona? Were these working titles? I am just wondering because the subtitle files I get are titled as such, instead of the actual episode title broadcast.

I have wondered what the deal was in the first episode where Amy as a young girl was sitting outside (on here suitcase) and it "seemed" like the Tardis was landing (in the scene right before it landed the night before her wedding day)?

I was pleasantly surprised with tonight's episode. I loved the first episode but was getting a bit worried after the last two. This one restored my confidence a bit.

It seems like Amy kind of talks the Doctor into doing things that will cause problems with the timelines in each episode. I wonder if she is the cause of the cracks in time. It seems like the Doctors time references are getting more off as the season goes on (like what he thinks is the correct flow is not right).

This is the RPF so I have got to have one of these. It is a bit different than the drawing, I hope some good photos of the handle on this one surface ;)

Just got done with tonight's episode and it was brilliant! Moffat and Smith just keep getting better and better. I think 11 may be my new favorite Doctor. I especially liked River's comm device. I want one!

I'm so glad this episode was good. The last two had no character or emotion whatsoever, but this one did. Lots of dialogue, well written plot. It looks like Moffat is doing his job right again.
