New BMF coming

I'd definitely be looking at 1/72 and 1/48 tanks especially the Matilda BUT you need to go for a smaller scale with the ships as many Tamiya 1/700 ships were used on the 32in. Remember, the smaller the number the larger the model and 1/500 would be too big for this HSMF.

I've checked some 1:72 tank parts against the thing and they look good so far, obviously you won't be able to get 100% accuracy unless you go with 3D printed parts but for those of us who just want a (relatively accurate) good looking model, I suppose donors are the way to go

Matilda is a kit used a lot on the Falcon....would 1:48 be more suited than 1:35? I'm going to do some research and I'll make another Pinterest board for those who are interested!

Ordered mine up. Should be here soon. I had an MR at one time. I kick myself now for selling it. Hoping I can mod this up to repectable levels. Following this thread.
 
For anyone who wants to completely scratch build the missing details for the HSMF (yay) I have modified the existing sticker sheet so it is now very close to the real thing, just print it out to be 143mm wide and 20mm high and you can build up on top:)

I will be sticking it to different thicknesses of card and cutting out for the thinner flat details I will post as i make progress.

Well, if anyone might be looking for some possible paint reference ideas, here is a link to the Photobucket images of my FineMolds model from a few years back. While my model lacks some of the "coffee staining" and the little black rectangles found on the real 32", I tried my best to replicate the coloring and shapes of the painted areas as best as I could and the battle damage points (from blast marks to chip scratches). I figure at the very least this might help for areas where the references aren't as scarce as I had to pool my data from both online images and four different books.

Hi Jay, I used that as reference :) Are you going to paint yours soon - would love to see the big one in stages, too! I used pre-shading on my 1/144 but it didn't turn out as nice as your 1/72 did so it's been on the backburner for ages. At one point it looked superb, then I said just a little more weathering, and all of a sudden it looked like something that came out of the chimney. The paintjob makes or breaks the Falcon and I still remember what Rob said -- it's what people notice first before the details.
 
Soooo I noticed the Hasbro radar dish looks better on the new BMF and vice a versa (how ever you spell that?).
 
041114.jpg A little more progress with mine, I know the first two lots of pics got zero response, but you never know, third time might be the charm.
 
So my quick and dirty test is so far good.
Step:
1-Wash entire falcon in bath tub with Dawn dish soap using a scotch brite pad. dry.
2-Wipe entire falcon again with 91+ denatured Alcohol and a lint free cloth.
3- Apply 2-3 coats of surface application prep (it goes on like a clear coat but is super thin and dries in minutes). I got mine from Pep Boys in the spray paint isle.
4- 2-3 coats of quality automotive primer. I just used Rustoleum because I had it on hand.

I let it dry for an hour and it stood up to the fingernail test. Mind you, I didnt try to dig my nail into the primer but it didnt scrape off. Im going to let it cure for another 2-3 days to make sure. But if the primer is sticking....paint will stick.

Then off to the model shop for some Tamyia paints and dust off the airbrush.

It really is an awesome sight to see it in primer grey. $60 bucks.....how could you go wrong??

The previous generation Hasbro is in the background. The new one in front. The primer is obviously dry enough to handle without leaving fingerprints......but.......it want it to harden. Ill re-scuff it with some 1200 before the final coat of primer, then paint.

But before all that nonsense, Ill get some ABS pipe and expanding foam. I like the fact that you can 'fly' it with one hand (wifes words with a little nerd accusation thrown in). I want it to be more rigid for mounting etc. This might be a non lighted Falcon as I am collecting upgrade parts and effort on the larger MF.

It does stick to it, and it does rub off, you make a mistake, and its easy to undo it, you don't want your paint to come off, don't rub it!

On mine the paint dosnt come off just by touching it. You have to rub pretty hard for it to come off.

From my knowledge and experience in building Falcons, I think as long as you have the following kits (specifically in relation to the BMF) you could use whatever other kits you like and you should end up with a damn fine Falcon:

-1:35 Matilda (either Mk II, III or IV)
-1:72 Matilda (again, same versions apply)
-1:72 Jagdtiger (King Tiger could be used, I think just any which have the famous engine deck are going to be fine for this)
-1:35 Jagtiger (again, same principle just different scale)

I'm not sure what other kits are 100% necessary to have with this BMF....most of the Flakveirling 38 parts are for the engine deck, not the sidewalls, so that's already catered for.

Beyond those specific kits, good suggestions might be:

-Any World War II era 1:500, 1:600 and 1:700 battleships, American ones especially
-Any German World War II era 1:35, 1:48 and 1:72 tanks and vechiles

Car transmission parts are going to be dead useful but I'm not sure what scale is best, 1:24? I know the 1:24 (or is it 1:20??) 6 Wheel Tyrell Lotus is used quite a lot

Any suggestions are definitely welcome, post them here and I'll pin them to the board!
