Good news for Galactica fans!

Intrada has released a CD of Stu Phillips' complete score to the first episode of Battlestar Galactica, "Saga of a Star World". Best of all, this is the first volume in a whole series of CDs of Phillips' awesome music for the series. It is a limited edition of 3000 copies, so it won't be around long.

I picked up a copy, and it is wonderful. Great booklet and liner notes too. This has been lovingly assembled by people who really love the music. This is the original recording, and includes much more than the MCA Soundtrack Album.

If you like BSG, or even big, cinematic orchestral music, don't miss this!

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA VOL. 1

Love TOS Galactica. The music was pretty darn good on that show.

Can't say the same for the reimagining which just isn't my cup of tea...

Just placed my order. Can't wait. Always loved the music from the original show. Will definitely get the other volumes when they're released.

Does anyone know if this is the same as the 4 disc boxed set release from the entire TV show? I'd like to have this version, if it's different than the box set.

Alright, totally not trying to start something. I love Stu. But just hope this doesn't turn into one of those "lets bag on RDM's BSG" thing.
nuBSG fans get a lot of frak flack from the OS fans for stuff they say. But rarely do we harp on Stu Phillips and his music from the original. I think most of us can agree that it was pretty wonderful, fun, a bit cheesy, but epic and awesome just the same.

It may not be your cup of tea, or if you protested it, whatever.. But the fact is, Bear McCreary was launched by that show. His music was not just good, it was frakking amazing. Hence why he has so many cd's out, and does live concert shows, which Stu has attended. And while Stu's music was great, it was also confined to one short season. And honestly, it didn't have the chance to branch out in any sort of way beyond what was expected. I wish he'd gotten the chance to play in that sandbox more! Bear's music should be respected for not just how moving and well composed it is, but the sheer amount of different instruments, and methods it was played with.
If you havn't listened to his versions of the colonial anthem, check them out. They are a fun listen. I know it might make some of you fight your inner demons to even attempt it, but my brother loved that they threw that into the show. At least Bear was trying to show his appreciation for Stu!

I'm sure I'll be telling my brother about this, since he's an OS fan, not nufan. Thanks for the info! :)

But just hope this doesn't turn into one of those "lets bag on RDM's BSG" thing.

Umm... better not to mention it then. I mean, truly, no one even mentioned the new show until your post. This thread is not a Bear vs. Stu thread. It's a "Hey, there's a cool TOS BSG CD Out There" thread. So, you can expect to see most posts fondly remembering Stu Phillips' music. Feel free to create a different thread celebrating Bear's music though. He has a lot of fans.

Steveo - This is even better than the release from the 4 Disc Stu Phillips Anthology. It contains all of the content from Disc 1, and a few more minutes of unreleased material, in better sound quality. As for discs 2-4 from that set, I foresee future volumes containing all of that and more. I have the 4CD set, and it is great. These will be even better.
