New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

You know what we have NOT had a decent replica of? The 6th Doctor's sonic lance! That's all plastic with a big red emitter on the end....it would be the easiest thing to make and all of us Whovian completests would snap it up!

If manofsteel25 can get 25 people signed up he's doing a run of them. At 21 now

MOD EDIT: Please do not post links to Junkyard threads.

I would really encourage The Wand Company to go forward with Kickstarter idea for other screwdrivers (my personal vote is for a new extending 11th, but I would be thrilled with a Future River, Laser, whatever.) I am one of those people who loves well made prop replicas but does not actually have the know-how to make them, and to people like us you are our best hope for good replicas of these for less than $1000s of dollars. I know that if you started a kickstarter page for one of these not only would you get a lot of support from forum members here, but if you made just a little noise about it on your Facebook and twitter accounts, the masses would flock as well.

Anyway, my little speech is over.

I'd pay $150 plus shipping directly to the Wand Co. for a classic sonic, extending 11th or River Song version if they did something like that.
Inexpensive River sonics just don't exist outside of the toy. It takes knowhow a lot of us don't have and/or or hundreds of dollars to make the 11th remote extend. There are some high quality classic sonics floating about but they're hard to get.
I think a lot of fans would be on board for something like that. I'd go nuts.

I would personally be most interested in an extending 11th remote myself! But with a button like the 10th doctor sonic remote! It could just be a deluxe edition or something along those lines! I can vouch for the whovian community, it would sell...

Finally got my sonic remote from ThinkGeek. Darkened the cracks a little by going over it using a whiteboard eraser dusted with a black whiteboard marker. It's subtle but does add depth without darkening it too much.

Thanks again to those brilliant folks at The Wand Company for making this lovely instrument ;)

I was going to wait until xmas funds came in, but I went looking for review videos and I found the first mention of this thing having three memory banks, therefore three devices programmed for control. So now I've worked it so that I can buy now and essentially pay myself back with the money I've asked for in lieu of presents.
I know this may not be news to some, but I can't recall seeing it mentioned on any of the sites I was looking to buy from. Just thought it was worth mentioning as one of those extra incentives (a 3-for-1, if you will) that might tip the balance for someone who wasn't sure. After all, it's what convinced me to buy now rather than wait.

Heads up guys. Got a code from PayPal for thinkgeek to take 30% off. The code is PayPalGeek. It expires 12/17/13. Total has to be over $50.

Love my sonic remote!

So, a link was posted earlier on in the thread for a IR controlled dimmer switch, and another generic IR controller, both of which will work with this remote. These were UK items though, does anyone know if *any* remote controlled dimmers will work with this, or do I need something specific?

Sorry for the silence - thanks again to everyone for their enthusiasm for this little product, and suggestions for things we should consider in future.

Has anyone had any problems with the light not working anymore on their remote?

That doesn't sound good - we've not come across that issue before. As Primrodo suggested, please do drop us an email to sonic@thewandcompany.com and we'll be happy to help.

No, it doesn't need to be anything specific, as long as it's an infrared (IR) remote controlled dimmer, rather than one that uses a radio-frequency (RF) remote.

Something like this one should work fine: Lutron MIR-600THW-WH 600-Watt Maestro IR Dimmer

Cheers,

Richard

I was idly googling and I have just discovered there exist such things as IR door locks, with deadbolts! Please tell me that someone with more money and skill than me has installed something like this for use with their sonic?

My wife and I love our sonic screwdriver remote, as soon as we found out about it, it became a must buy for us

That looks great, in my opinion! I might have to try something like that if I can ever work up the funds for a sonic.

Also, those photos look great!

My one and only dream just came true. However, before I give ALL my hopes up, I would imagine such a device works much like a car lock remote, on an encoded signal of sorts that can't be copied, for security reasons...however, that won't stop me from searching to the ends of the Earth to discover the possibilities on the matter...will report my findings.

Untested, seeing as I just found this less than 10 minutes after my last post, but for $100, it seems that it may be possible to unlock the door to your house with your sonic.

IR Infrared Remote Deadbolt Locks [KF-01] - $99.99*USD : ReoStyle

And here's one for the knob, if you're into that instead of the deadbolt:

IR Infrared Remote Knob Locks

It also comes with "conventional" keys, you know, for those members of the family that don't have sonic screwdrivers. Since it can simply replace an existing deadbolt and runs on batteries (which they say will last to up to a year of regular use - although we all know if we're controlling it with a sonic it will get far more use), installation is super easy, it seems.

I'm going to give myself 24 hours to think of a reason to not get this. Seeing as I probably wont, stay tuned for results...

Exactly the ones I found! Even if the signal is too complex for the sonic, I found a forum post somewhere where someone wanted to use a IR receiver and an adurino to turn a motor and open a lock. Sounds more complicated, but I bet it could work on a Tardis (where security isn't as important as your house front door).
