New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

Exactly the ones I found! Even if the signal is too complex for the sonic, I found a forum post somewhere where someone wanted to use a IR receiver and an adurino to turn a motor and open a lock. Sounds more complicated, but I bet it could work on a Tardis (where security isn't as important as your house front door).

I got an Arduino awhile back to try and program a sound chip for sonic'y goodness but didn't have much luck in the end :behave However, I might pick up the knob version of this and keep the deadbolt for when I go to bed at night. I live in one of the safest towns in America as is so we usually only lock the bottom lock when we go out anyway. Worst case scenario and it doesn't work with the sonic, I'll still have a remote controlled lock :D

Love my sonic remote!

So, a link was posted earlier on in the thread for a IR controlled dimmer switch, and another generic IR controller, both of which will work with this remote. These were UK items though, does anyone know if *any* remote controlled dimmers will work with this, or do I need something specific?

Well, I got it to work my air conditioner. Because all of the air conditioners in my house have the same IR remotes, I can actually use it to work all of them

Got mine today!
Firstly, let me say that opening the box was like childhood Christmas, so glad I decided to splash the cash early. Everything positive I could say about this has already been said, but let me repeat them. It's a sonic, it's a 99% accurate replica, it actually functions, it's brilliant! So far, getting used to he different gestures is taking a while, but I think that's just practice. I guess my one and only niggle (and it's minor) is the volume. It would be nice if it was louder, but it's in no way a deal-breaker.
So, lots of playing as I try and figure out what controls to assign to each gesture. :D

I'm not quite sure I gather your meaning?

I was clarifying that my attempt at programming a sonic-y sound from scratch was before the existence of the universal remote (or any reasonably priced replica for that matter), as there was an implication in your original post that I was unaware of the TWC remote having a built in SFX mode.

Actually my post was kind of a mistake. I was literally Hal asleep at the time and didn't realize there were so many pages on the thread. I was replying to one WAY back near the beginning about the TV-Begone having a quiet mode :p

All I needed to do to darken my sonic was apply some shoe polish and wipe off the excess, took about 2 minutes and I was able to darken the end cap while I was at it. I'm loving how it turned out

Haha. Quite the misunderstanding, then. Cheers.

I just ordered my 10th doctor universal remote from think geek on Sunday, anybody know how long it should take to come in?

Even though I used the cheapest shipping, I got mine within a couple of days. The problem with ordering something now is the Christmas rush so shipping might be a little slower.

Still having lots of fun making all the different sounds in FX mode, :) I've discovered that (due to resonance) a lot of them sound loudest with the emitter slid out to just at the base of the metal, before the clear tube shows.
Debating whether to darken the crackle and the endcap, although I did take a scalpel and slightly reduce the 'bump' on the inside of the slider, just to make it easier to hold the button and fully extend (like Tennant often does) in one smooth movement.

I thought about minimizing the bump but I kind of like that if you slide it directly over it, just before the full extent of it's range, the button sticks and it stays on until you slide it off. I'd bet it wasn't designed to do this but I wonder if reducing the bump would change this "feature" as I rather enjoy it.

Sometimes in the fully extended position, my button sticks down. If I sort of push harder when sliding the emitter up, it successfully stays in open position without the button being stuck down..

Apart from that, I'm smitten with the screwdriver.

I can still get mine to do that if I get the position just right.

I just hope they dont do what they did with the 11th doctor toy sonic when I ordered it. They took almost a month and a half and all I got was a message saying the monkey didn't want it to leave yet. Still, can't complain it was a good toy.

I ordered mine Sunday evening (12/15) from Thinkgeek. It arrived yesterday (12/18). I would guess the holiday shipping times will not be as crazy as expected.
