New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

Alright, thanks. Just didn't want to fry anything. By the way, to Richard, Chris and everyone at TWC, you've done a fantastic job.

Has anyone noticed their activation button becoming so sensitive that even the very slightest touch on it activates the sonic? Mine is now this way, and if I even think about carrying it about in my purse it'll be on and continuously activated till the power cell runs out. Also, if I press on the activation button and hold it down while I slide it forward to extend, by the time it gets past the "bump" and is fully extended, the button sticks and it stays on until I move the slider back down past the bump.

It wasn't like this before, so I'm wondering how it could come to be that the button would start behaving like this all on it's own? Also, occasionally when I press the button to switch modes it will announce that it's going through a "test mode" after which I have to shut it down and restart it to get it to stop cycling in and out of "test mode".

Dunno what's going on, but it's a bit troubling as it's behaved fine up till now. any ideas?

I bought two of these because they are so cool. One for play and one for display. I can't believe the sounds and flashes are so perfect. I agree the switch is a little sensitive, but what a great idea. Now my sonic actually does something....

I found out about test mode when I continued to hold the button down after turning the sonic on. Sounds like you have a sonic which takes time to recognise clicks (that's why when you repeatedly click it imagines it as 1 click and goes into test mode). I'm not sure though - mine's fine. Maybe it's over-use??!!!!

Again I'm not sure if this was a 'feature' or just pot luck, but if you push the sonic up to just the right moment, the button stays down. It was put to good use when I used my sonic as a torch after the tv tripped the electricity two nights ago. Your sonic appears again, to have a different set up to mine.

It does seen odd and not right - it certainly doesn't happen to me!!!!! I hope that helps a little bit.

From what I'm seeing, it's a bit odd that these don't hold up well. A lot of people have defects on these things, which is worrying for me.
Don't get me wrong, I think what the wand company did is absolutely fantastic, but at this point it's not worth it is it? I was really looking forward to something that could be any sort of alternative to the Celestial Toystore sonic in price, but if it's gonna slack in quality then why not just save for the best around :/

I think people need to remember that this is, first and foremost, an electronic gadget, designed for a technical use and not meant for the rigours of rough-handling and in-and-out of your (10th Doc's brown suit) pocket all day. Treat them with a little more care (imagine they cost as much as a MFX, or the never-produced QmX). I'm thinking of getting a soft pouch to put mine in when I want to carry it in my pocket, just to give it a bit more protection.

Importantly, you need to consider many other things. One is that most people who buy this sonic and are extremely happy with it will not be on this forum talking about their problems. Two is that those who do encounter problems are therefore still a very minor pool of people.

I carry mine around with me everywhere, I've dropped it, had my girlfriend on top of then I've twisted over only to then get my sonic out of my back pocket - and so it's stood up to 20 st being pressed upon it.

I mean look at the materials - aluminium and plastic. They're not going to suddenly break - sure there might be a few scratches or dents, but it won't break and so far for me, there aren't even scratches or dents.

I don't think mine has been a question of breakage... and I certainly haven't abused it. Like any piece of micr-sized electronics, there are bound to be some issues here or there.

I'm not here to "talk about my problems"... per se. I just tossed it out there to see if it was just me or if others have encountered the same thing. After all, that's what a forum is for, isn't it? I don't treat it as a complaint register... I've been VERY pleased overall. It's just that this issue has sort of popped up for me, and I wanted to see if I was alone with it. No harm in that which I can see.

To be fair, I took mine to a couple conventions and it did very well! No damage, no sensitivities...and I wasn't very careful with it. Plus it allowed me to leave my more expensive props at home. Less worry while flipping for sure! I just wish there was a way to get it to stay in ONLY FX mode.

Other than turning the TVs off at Best Buy and Walmart, I never use the remote function, just fx mode.

I had emailed TWC about the loose slider thing just to check if it was worth returning to the supplier last week but so far have not had a response , Probably just because of new year i suppose so il let you know what they say when i get a reply.

Can somebody tell me a way to darken the cracks without shoe polish. Like an easy way with something simple.

Hi Kristen, please do email me on sonic@thewandcompany.com. Your button should not have become that sensitive and I am sure that we can fix it for you.
