I was not even thinking about him when I made that remark. But I will say this, I did receive a lashing from him, but only after I attacked first. After I manned up and apologized, he has been wonderful towards me. In fact, we have had some very nice, non sonic related conversations through email.

I thought it was important to say this. Sorry for the quick derail.

Nope. One surprising advantage of the unpainted ABS handle is that the slight translucency gives it the appearance of cracked ivory, or some other similarly swanky material. It's really quite nice.
 
Forbiddenplanet finally have it in stock! If I hadn't preordered one I'd be tempted to rush down to London first thing and grab one. I still am, really.

Sorry, but that's a screw-up in their system - they received a small quantity of stock from us on Friday, but not enough to fulfil all their pre-orders, so there won't be any in their stores and it shouldn't be showing in stock on their website yet. They know about the problem but can't fix it until tomorrow (Monday) morning.

Apologies for any confusion that this causes.

Darn. Oh well, like I said, I have preordered. Ages and ages ago. So hopefully I'll be one of the first shipped. Or else...
 
Preordered from firebox on the 24th of july, really hope I won't have to wait much longer. Have to wait for international shipping and that's painful enough.

We're hoping to get enough stock delivered to both BBC America Shop and ThinkGeek on Friday October 18th to allow them to fulfil all of their preorders right away, so unless anything changes, you should receive your Sonic soon after that.

I'd expect your Sonic to be dispatched by Firebox this week, from the stock that we sent to them on Friday.
 
what about the BBC UK shop? Pre-ordered mine there, the site still says the release date is 31/10/2013.

Really looking forward to this :)

Thanks for the response. Wasn't super worried, but I realized that I rather be writing comments on rpf than write reports on java simulations :)
Now this reassurance was just the pick-me-up I needed to give it my second wind.

BBC UK Shop, Firebox and Forbidden Planet are all in the same situation - we delivered our initial stock to those three retailers on Friday, so they should all be shipping out some of their pre-orders this week, but none of them will have enough stock to fulfil the more recent pre-orders until 18th October. So, the date of 31/10/2013 on their website is a bit pessimistic - I expect that they will have sent out all their pre-orders and will show the product as "in stock" about a week sooner than that.

I'm glad it helped - I hope the report-writing went well. You have my sympathy - writing reports is one of my least favourite things in the world.

No problem at all.

Here's another photo Chris took today of the final production version of the Sonic in its case. Getting the squidgy rubber case lining to have the look and feel we wanted was more challenging than we had anticipated, but it worked out quite nicely in the end:

Stunning, absolutely stunning. From stock pictures alone (I have only handled an MFX in real life) this looks to be one of the cleanest and crispest renditions of the sonic screwdriver yet. Once again thanks to Richard and the team- this appears to be an astounding achievement, though I will reserve my full judgement until my pre-ordered sonic is in my hands! ;)
