Nerf Aliens Pulse Rifle Build

Nice find! The stryfe looks almost identical to the recon and even has the same barrel and stock attachment points. Would love to see someone work this into the shroud :)

Well, a lot of messing about later....

This is a quick mock up of the charge point with integrated LED charge indicator (I stuck it in a box to stifle light spill). Once the batteries are full, the LEDs will go out.

I realised my mistake in choosing this connector, so I made a case it could slide out of to hide the contacts, and it's plenty stiff enough so it won't just pop out randomly.

There's room in the handgrip for the charge circuit too as its only made up of a few components. Majenko made a fritzing of the charge circuit for me, so I'll share it here if anyone else can use it :thumbsup

(*edit* added resistor values to the diagram)

I also started to place the switches. First up is the trigger switch

The button was too shallow to go through the hole, so I glued an extension on, and sanded it down carefully till I could pull the trigger all the way, and still depress the button

I'm not connecting everything up yet as I still have to find somewhere to put the MkI soundboard for the display. It's a little big, so it might have to go in the longshot section up front.

Don't worry, I've had threads that died after one or two posts myself. Could you stick a link up, very interested to have a look at it. Some of the new Nerf are just BadA** cool.

It was more of a "heads up", and no pics. I just saw size comparison pic between the Stryfe and Retaliator (the reissued version of the Recon), and the Stryfe is a bit bigger. The difference probably can be be adjusted for with the stock and barrel extensions, so I don't think that'll be a significant issue.

This is amazing! I'd love to attempt to make one for my husband but there is no way I could do it without him knowing. You have mad skill!

Haha! No worries:) The round counter info definitely belongs here, as part of the evolution of the project.

er...I mean...I am deeply offended and you should mail me a round counter to atone for this gross infraction ;)

Great work my friend! Great work :)

Thanks Quest, it was your build that got me inspired, and as I'm currently turning my McGyvering to electronics, a full FX counter was definitely on the cards at some point.

I looked it up and saw a few pics, and it's not the best looking gun in the range, but it definately has potential for modding/painting. I haven't seen one in action yet, but my guess is it has a wheel system like the barricade. My hope is it'll be more like a scaled down stampede.

Right enough chit chat, instead, a bit of tonight's efforts on the N-PR.

I stripped back the grip charge point to its component parts and glued them together properly:

Then I used PlastiZap to stick some 3mm LEDs to Pre-defined locations:

In the circuit, these are wired in parallel (forgot that bit, I'll update the pic again later with details), so I connected all the inside legs first, then the outside, though I used heat shrink between each section as I went. Here it is all finished:

With that done, it was time for a quick test fit, and after a few adjustments here and there, I could concentrate on the main circuit. As there are so few components, it fits nicely in the handgrip:

So whilest shopping for my resistors, I spotted the tiniest fan I've ever seen, it was so cute just had to:

It's going to need a bit more giggery pockery to make it work, but it will. I'm making air inlet vents for it. The strap bracket should hide them a bit, and a hand won't cover the holes, though it'll only be on whilest charging to help keep the regulator cooler.

I picked one up the other day. Unlike one of the Buzzbee guns I tried once, this is not fully automatic. Just semi-automatic. It does use a wheel system, so with the sound of that motor running, you won't be sneaking up on anyone.

I'm thinking it's probably not suitable for a PR after all, and may just do a straight repaint as an M-4 style assault rifle. Oh well.

Don't be so sure, another reason I mentioned a barricade in my previous post is I modded one for my eldest son's best friend. He said the same thing about sneak attacks, so I moved the switch so that when you pulled the trigger half way, the motors would kick in prior to sending the dart to the wheels :thumbsup

I am sold! I just read all 33 pages i will be making one. I will want/need a cool counter with sound chip please! How much are those running price wise? And for the charging system could you use a 9v system I have an old broken cordless shop light I will sacrifice it has a plug and a battery pack 6-9v I think ill look again in the morning Biiiiig thanx to the founding father Quest and everyone who added their $.02 awesome!!!

The counter boards I am working on will run at anything from 3.6V up to 9V. It's the power amp that needs the juice - the rest of the circuit is run off a 3.3V regulator. If you want to run from more than 9V, then you will need a regulator to bring it down to 9V. At the moment the price is looking like £35 (~$55), but I am still waiting for my first batch of prototype boards to be completed (I thought they had been dispatched, but that was another set of boards for another job) - they should have been dispatched by now.

As for charging, I am pondering making a tiny embedded NiCd charge circuit - just add your own resistor to suit your batteries. I have been thinking about making a tiny embedded Lithium Ion charge circuit as well for a while now, but using that requires considerably more care and knowledge than NiCd.

Re: Re: Nerf Aliens Pulse Rifle Build

Here's my tribute to the pulse rifle, more of a MK II if you will:

Entirely built using only nerf parts, and the ammo counter is a static counter from the solid resin kit. Currently enrolled on a Design and Technology course at my local university, so I'll be converting the counter as soon as I can. Also, it's still fully functional as a fully automatic Nerf gun.

Which parts did you use

Hello

Really Incredible build you have there. I never realized the goldmine of possibilities that hides within the Nerf Gun Universe. Very Very Impressive!!!

Hey everyone I am building my own but I have a question. For the screws. What kind did you use?

Scratch that. In spite of the semi-auto firing, I didn't like it much, so I returned it. Maybe it'll seem more attractive when I find one in a thrift shop for $5 or less. Worse still, I sacrificed my "Longshot" single shot extension to extend the barrel of a "Recon" to resemble the M-4 configuration. Gotta find another I guess.

Hello All,

Heres an update on my effort...

I've added a static ammo counter which I hope to intergrate into the the ammo clip to 'light up' when inserted.

The pump action grip when pulled back exposes a hole for the shell to eject.

and, I purchased a cheap flash sound card to install - most likely on the other side of the clip holder where the ammo counter sits.

I've got some sounds for the pulse rifle shooting, shot gun pump action sound, alien cry and hudson talking about pulse rifles, rpg's and sharp sticks (LOL)!

I've removed the air restrictor too, so this 'puppy' shoots further!

Total 'BAD ASS'

Love this thread!!!
