Necronomicon (Evil Dead II) What's out there?

Wow, talk about blasphemous and sanity-blasting! Ripping up one of the iconic movie book props... Just wow. o_O

I've got two props I got from guys here on this forum. One is the Necronomicon book. Full size with pages, not super high quality, but very nicely done. Man, I've had that sucker for a Looooong time too. I also have a Kandorian (sp?) dagger that I got and have always liked, but it just sits in a closet while I wonder how to display it. It's probably more cool than the book.

Here is the dagger. It's just over 2' long too! As you can tell I take crappy photos. Sorry.:sick

I've seen lots of resin versions here at cons in the UK - not working books mind, just solid resin cover book lookalikes. I don't know the history of these or where the casts were taken from.

A full necronimicon would be a great prop replica - Magnoli would be a great guy to tackle this too.

Failing that, an RPF version would rock.

The problem is that if the cover is made of latex, it will rot, it may take 10 years, but it WILL happen.
Who wants to spend $100 on a latex cover that will be gone in a decade?

A solid resin book sounds much better...unless there is an option that will give us a book with real paper pages, but a cover that will allow the book to open and survive everything but a house fire.

Boiled shaped leather? There is atalented leather mask maker that shows up to Dragon Con every year, does anyone know this person?
I believe that this would be the best looking option, while perhaps not the most screen acurate certainly the most artistic and most "real" feeling

Would be nice to make a RPF Necronomicon. I would have asked Ramiel if he could draw the pages for the book.

Having seen the artwork for the various grail diaries, the Nine Gates books, countless maps, etc. I don't think creating accurate artwork is the issue. There's too much talent here to make this all that difficult to pull off.

From my understanding the real problem is the Necronomicon's creator - I've heard he'll go after anyone that tries to replicate his books - cover or artwork. I do believe some members on this forum have experience dealing with Mr. Sullivan in that very arena.

Not saying it's good or bad on Sullivan's part. As the artist, he has every right to protect his creation. I'm just saying that from my understanding, if you try to replicate his work - for whatever reason or purpose - he will come after you.

Yup...you are absolutely right mate. He WILL come after us. I think a resin cover with parchement pages varnished might work or a papermache cover even....

Gee, I guess my book is going and will be gone in the next couple of years.

Perhaps the way to do it, is to not tell people on the thread that you are doing a run. Just a book for yourself. That tactic has been used before.

Yup, no open "runs" then is the best way forward.

But IF this was replicated, perhaps a silicone cover could be used? Same general feel as latex, but it will last.

ummmm....nice but don't get us killed mate lol

Al...Magnoli made a Necronomicon a long time ago. He even posted a few pics. I think Tom contacted him so he didn't make a big run etc.

Biggs...forgot to mention. Big fan of the musical and love your take. Any chance of you selling these? Love to put my cd of the musical inside lol

I agree that the cover has to be something rather soft to have the feel of leather/skin. Not resin or anything else hard like that.

Lastly, my Necronomicon has several pages, each one filled out (text, drawings, etc.). I don't know where the creater got them and what (if anything) they are based on. I guess I need to dig it out again and look at those pages.

Mike

well it's based on the real pages going on the two you have sown but far from accurate. Still a nice book though:)
