NCR Veteran Ranger- And other Fallout related props.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

I <3 the paint job on that helmet. Reminds me of the color scheme I used on my plague marines. Did you scratch out all those tally marks or just paint them on?

I just finished my Ranger build last night but I'm super critical of it so I'm almost afraid to post it =P

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

I'm surprised this isn't generating more interest, guess it's old hat already. Ya I liquid masked all the kill marks. There is 4 layers of paint on the helmet. I painted the mask and weathering it last night.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

This is really amazing. I really like the stencil on the bag. I want to make one for everyday use!

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

Thanks man. The bag was not hard just print a foamie, cut it out with an exacto, stick it on the bag and spray paint it. My helmet is getting closer to finished.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

looking really slick!
are you going to beat up those stickers/white lettering and arrows to show some wear?

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

The camera kinda sucks, it doesn't stand out that much in person. I am going to add dried/fresh blood to it, I have an idea for the eyes but not sure it will work.

It's hard for this to look right when you have set the bar so high :lol There needs to be a fallout legion, like the 501st. That would be awesome for all these rangers to be in one place.

Your side headset piece (light, antenna, etc) turned out pretty awesome! Everything looks really good for that matter. I cant wait to see the final product.

The headset piece and lenses are the only parts I have left to complete my costume w/ the exception of a few small details. I've been struggling w/ what to use for the lenses. I'm rushing to get finished by Dragon*Con this wknd. I started the week D*C was over last year and basically didn't touch until a few weeks ago. Ugh. I dont think I'm going to have time to add the hose and wire on the right side so I'm just going for in-game model accuracy, lol. I'll be sure and post some pics when completed but plan to debut it at D*C. I wanted to make some WIP posts but just have not had time.

I'd love to meet all of you fellow Rangers at D*C, for those of you who are attending.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

Ya, post them up when you get back. I could not go. Depressing.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

Little bit of progress. I'm working on putting the heads up display together, the display will feature a sound activated hum as the lights power up the lenses. -button on the side-

I also starting with the riding jacket. I might have made an error in picking my material however. It is very heavy duck canvas and it is undyed. My concern is that it will shrink to much during the staining process as it has to be boiled. I allowed 10% more overall to the size of the coat for this, but am still iffy on it.

Here is to hoping it wont as this material was $10 a yard.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[New Pictures]

Here are some updates if anyone is interested. Not much progress lately.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[Pictures Added 9/17]

Either you guys are burnt out on this, or it sucks lol. Anyway the coat fits well, the collar maybe a little to big. I used steel window screen to hold the collar up but I might go a different route with it since there is really no way I could make it stand up like it does in the game.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[Pictures Added 9/17]

Raging, I just started my costume the other day. I had the lit eyes and cooling fan in the gas mask filter on top of my list of things to do as I hadn't seen anyone else with them yet.

Oh well, I'll just have to come up with extra stuff to make mine unique :)

Yours is looking really good! By the way, thanks for asking/figuring out what the pouch on the left arm was, it was doing my head in

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[Pictures Added 9/17]

I have a Rogue costume that has a huge collar in a leather jacket that needed to stand up. I took a queue from a Danier Leather jacket I had; I put a length of wire - about the weight of a wire cloths hanger - three quarters of the way up the collar, along it's length. Now I can bend and form the collar to whichever position I'd like it to stay in.

You have plenty of views, just not much to say.

A lot of Rangers have lights in there heads up display. One of the biggest challenges of this costume is making the eyes bright enough to see clearly, and still be able to see out and not see your eyes. So far no one has figured it out. If you do let us know. And Thanks

That is a good idea, The coat isn't totally complete so trying to get it to stay with a giant helmet on is a bit annoying.

I wasn't looking for praise or being an attention *****. Just trying to get some basic information on things not listed in anyone elses threads. I just want to add anything to this build constructive or otherwise to help others if they ever attempt this, so its all laid out for them.

Hey dude, I've been working away the last few days on the eyes and I may have figured it out.

The main problem I was having was the luminosity of the light source. My original thought was to use EL wire, as with it I would skip the problems of diffusing the light, however, it is nowhere near bright enough. I doubt it would give decent results in a pitch black room...

Having a monotonous job though is sometimes a blessing, I came up with a brainwave earlier today. I've ordered all the stuff for it and should have a test piece built by the end of the weekend. I'll keep you and anyone else who's interested informed as to how it goes

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[Pictures Added 9/17]

I have been away and have not worked on this much lately. Let me know the results you yield. I am trying something experimental right now myself.

Re: NCR Veteran Ranger -A work in progress-[Pictures Added 9/17]

Started to work on the jacket a bit more. I can't sew so it's just a guess work. I think by the time its weathered it might be decent. I'm not even going to bother making the collar flare out.
