NCIS Abby's Caf-POW cup

I was recently watching an episode on USA and this episode had a lid on the cup that was clear. The name of the episode is "Knockout."

Here's my lid painted with the same Krylon Banner Red. I painted the inside with about 6 thin coats, being careful to get paint on all the inside edges a little at a time. You have to also make sure you don't get overspray on the other side of the lid at the same time.

Thanks to The Next Doctor for tips.

For those who want to save on red paint, if you go to your local Racetrack gas station (if you have one near by), they have red lids for their 44 oz. cups that fit on top of the white 7-11 cups similar to the clear lids from 7/11. I picked one up earlier today after swinging by to get a straw for my new clear 7-11 cup (because the 7-11 store was out of their super straws and I wanted to get to drink my drink).

I've been waiting months for open registration, to get one of these labels and make a Caf Pow cup. I can finally post! Please tell me its not too late - even if I dont get the exact 7-11 cup (as there are none in GA), I would do anything to get one or two labels. Please let me know how to get one.

Man this site rocks! Being new and all. Anyway I didn't think there were TV show prop replicas as well! Plus the Caf-POW from NCIS. I love NCIS. This stuff is pretty cool. It sucks that people have a hard time getting their hands on 7-11 Double Gulp cups. Living in Hawaii there are 7-11's everywhere. I never thought of using the cups to make a Caf-POW cup. Again you guys are awesome!

There's nothing really fancy about the lid. It's a thin plastic similar to the ones used by 7-11 for their cups, except that its red. I figured it'd be safer to use this lid from RaceTrac instead of painting it red (you never know whats in paint nowadays), should you decide to continue to use the cup or touch the lid while handling it. But it doesn't have any logos like the 7-11 lids do. It's completely smooth all around. I apologize if the pictures aren't good enough. It's just that it's 8 o'clock here, and I'm using my apartment lights. The lid is currently on my old white 7-11 cup.

I have registered to this site just to get my hands on some of these labels, Are they still available for purchasing? I have plenty of local 7-11 that have the Double Gulp cup needed for this prop. I'm going to run over to the 7-11 at lunch to buy some.

I like it well enough. I think I'll grab one for my lid.

Cool beans. Glad to have been able to help. I know it's not much. Honestly, I kinda wish they still had the cups they had back in the early 2000s, which were white and had a lid of a similar plastic to that of the cups used by 7-11 and RaceTrac at that time (which I know they had a red one, as I had a 44 ounce cup that came with a purple lid).

Hey guys! I just noticed this thread and it made me smile. My name is Doug Reilly and I'm the one who actually designs and makes the props on NCIS (Yes, I designed Caf-Pow!) and just wanted to say that I think it's great you guys are going through so much effort to replicate something I've made for TV =) If there are any questions you guys have about any of my designs for the show, just let me know and I'd be happy to help out. . .I might even have questions for some of you!

Ive got a question, since the 7/11 cups are different now, do you have another source?

I think another would be better ref pictures (i dont expect you to actually give us the full design of course)

Actually, these are the ones that I'm using as of today. I don't know what's currently available at 7-11 now, we just bought a box of 500 like 2 or 3 seasons ago and I'm still grinding through 'em (pics attached)

WELCOME to the RPF...
Great to see you here. I was originally obsessed with the cup and took me forever to track the thing down. As a long time Fan , I wanted to create all three cup designs and it took off from there. Hopefully I will get a label signed one of these days by Paulette for my collection as I have only about half the cast now. I just finished a set of trading cards I want to send to all the cast just for fun as well . Kinda like the classic trading cards with the puzzle on the reverse.
I think the main question is the lids and straws and where you sourced them out. Kinda along the same line there has been ongoing battle about her farting hippo and what kind it is.

Well, the story about the lids goes a little something like this... they used to be clear, but the cup always looked empty on screen, so we cut up some red lighting gel and taped it to the inside of the cup to make it look like there was a level of drink in there. That worked for a season or so, but it got to be too much of a pain to deal with on set so we finally just painted them red (Rustoleum Painter's Touch, Gloss Apple Red if you're interested) and made it as easy as possible. The actual lids and straws came with the bulk order of cups that we bought from 7-11 a couple of seasons back. As far as Bert the Hippo goes, the funny thing is that at the time, we didn't think it would be a recurring prop, so we didn't have anything custom made. I'm pretty sure we used a Folkmanis Hippo hand puppet (http://www.folkmanis.com/handpuppet_detail.php?item_no=2855=) and threw a spiked studded bracelet from Hot Topic around his neck, added a hoop earring from the wardrobe department, and viola!

There is only ONE Bert prop on planet earth, and he's under lock & key in my office at all times. . . .but we have plenty of cups and lids for seaons to come, so I wouldn't expect them to change anytime soon...

I love it when a studio professional comes in and enjoys our tributes to their work. I'm sure we will have many questions about the props. One of my favorite episodes was the one with Charles Dunning " Call of Silence" . it was a very touchy story and it was well done. Did you guys replicate the medal of honor or did you use a real one..?

And a welcome from me as well. It's really great to have the real deal described.

Can you confirm the straw color? Orange? I was able to find orange straws at 7-11, but they had two lines along them. ?

Hello Doug, thanks for all the info and confirmation on the Caf-Pow cups. I will be dressing up for Dragon-Con in Atlanta as Abby (in September), and the cup will be my prop so this forum is very helpful.
I have a different question though and since I can't figure out how to send u a separate message/email, do you know how I could get a picture of the exact spider web tattoo on Abbys neck? I cant find any good pics online at all, and I'm trying to be as accurate as possible. My email is: meow1woof2@yahoo.com
