Looks great! For kits are all the pieces going to be cut out and separated ready to assemble or does everything have to be trimmed down?

I'm going to see how well they cut on the bandsaw. I think of at least roughly cutting them to shape, so you would only have to "dremel" or sand the edges clean.

Thanks for the update and info on the pieces being cut out. I was more curious as to how the lamination would look on the cut edges.

Also, did you happen to source new leather gloves?

Yes please! Now that my Halloween costume is behind me, I'm itching to get started on next year's. :p

Hey Guys!

I'm very sorry! I didn't even get near my workshop for the last 2 weeks... :(
The reasons aren't totally unrelated...
It was RingCon last weekend (largest fantasy-convention in Europe) and my cosplay-group had a big photo-booth, did a 20min show on stage and organized and managed the costume contest. As if this wasn't enough to to by itself, 2 weeks before the convention we were forced to change our groups name! Our original name had already been advertised on the cons page and we had stuff printed videos were made for the contest and show, etc. So in 2 weeks time we had to find a new name and logo, have stuff reprinted, re-edit videos, new FB-page, twitter account, website... basically everything we had made over the last 2-3 years had to be replaced!

I don't want to go into much more detail here, but it was so nerve-wrecking and time-consuming, that I didn't manage to get the Gauntlets done...not even a pair for my friend, who's also part of this run and helped me with mold-making ad stuff...

So, I'll be in my workshop today and see how far I can get.
Sorry again for the lack of updates! I really don't want this to become "my thing" :(

Thanks for the update. Sucks that you had to replace your groups name. Maybe you should register the new name or something, to avoid this happening again...

Anyway. Looking forward to see some more WIP pics... I don't mind waiting a bit longer, since this would give me some more time to get the funds together for the final payment ;).

I'm totally on board with this! Your gauntlets are beautiful and owning a pair of them has been a dream of mine for awhile! Are they ready to be ordered/shipped? Or are you still working out kinks in the production process?

SciFiPropFreak hasn't been on the RPF since a week. I guess he's working hard all week to get these ready ;).

Hey guys, sorry for the long absence!

Yes, I'm very busy at the moment...sadly not as much as I wanted because of the gauntlets :(
I'm usually not the type, giving excuses, but I guess you guys deserve some information about what the hack is taking so long with finishing these...

Besides the limitations of my small workshop and my affords to steadily improve it, my challenges right now are more "worldly":
1. I can only work a students job until Dec. 14th and my own business is not yet big enough to sustain my expenses, so I'm pursuing different options
2. This summer I filed a patent for a new kind of 3D-printer Extruder, but turning that into a business is not that easy, too, requiring a lot of research and planning...
3. As I wrote in the first post, I currently have a NZ working holiday visa and hoped to get there and tried a few things, but now it's not looking like I'll get there until dec12th...which is my deadline

OK, I know that everybody has his/her challenges in life, so I'll stop whining now and tell you about the little progress I made on the gauntlets.

The new molds save me a lot of time laminating, but require some different processing.
For example: Because there are now several plates on one piece of fiberglass, I have to cut them out. I thought this would be easy using my bandsaw, but the shape of them is rather inconvenient. For cutting from the U-shaped form, it would be best to lay it flat on the cutting table, but since the outlines are only visible from the outside, I'd have to cut basically in mid-air...which might not be the best idea...
My solution -hopefully- is this odd-shaped....thing...yeh, yeh, I know that it looks like.....wel......a cone! So lets call it a bandsaw-cone :-D

BandsawCone.jpg

The idea is that the bandsaw blade is almost completely hidden inside the bandsaw-cone, supporting the meterial as high up, as possible, while giving as much free space underneath to move the parts which need to be cut...does that make sense??
Also, since I don't want to mess up my dust collector with fiberglass, I added a connector for my shop-vac.
...took about 5h to print.

Thanks for the update, mate. Do you have an idea on when these will be ready (not looking for an exact date, but a certain month or something like that)?
