Limited Run Nazgul Gauntlets - comfortable for long convention-days

...currently doing finishing touches on the positives and planning how to exactly mold each part (trying not to make the same mistakes I did last time)
Not much to see there, so I didn't take any pictures :eek

Thanks for keeping us updated, mate. Take your time to create great gauntlets. Quality before speed, I always say ;).

alright, it's not much, but here are the latest pics.
(the post got messed up the first time I tried to post the pictures between the text, so I'll try it with a list...)

Pic 1) here are the fingerplates-masters. I'm really glad that I got myself this oscillating tool ;-)

Pic 2) There was a little bump on the side of the arm guard which needed a bit persuading ;-)

Pic 3-5) Now I have to support the pieces and get them aligned. The previous molds had become to tight so I'm correcting this for the new ones.

Pic 6) FYI: one of the reasons why I'm working so slow right now is, because I'm still in the middle of building my workshop...made a sturdier bench to work on (will con in handy when it's time for riveting Gauntlets together ;-) )

Thanks for the update! Looks promising. I don't really care if work is progressing slowly, as long as you keep us up to date with a post like the above. Nice work ;).

As long as I can assemble mine in time for Halloween, I'm not in too big of a hurry. :) Looks great so far!

Thanks guys! Now that the rather tedious part is done (sanding... :facepalm) I'm looking forward to making the molds!

FYI: for anyone who's interested: You can still join in! :D

An awesome build, with great explanations of how you did it!

I've been wanting a pair of these forever.

I'm in!

I'm a firm interested in a kit.

How is the flexibility in the fingers of the finished gauntlet? Can you make a fist or hold a sword tightly?

Stivie, I have worn the finished kit from the old molds, making a fist, grabbing a sword, even tying the boots was possible :D (last one with a bit of care but it worked ;) ) the new kit should be even comfier since the knuckle-part is being reworked!

Thanks, I'll put you down for one kit!

They are quite flexible. I'll see if I can make a short video tomorrow.
You don't want to use them for actual sword-fighting, do you?:eek Flexibility wise that should not be a big deal, but I can't guarantee for any protective effect!

No actual sword fighting :lol I have a display mannequin and want it holding a sword, just want to make sure these will work as the steel ones I have now aren't very flexible.

OK, lets try pictures again...

Handplates-done.jpg
Handplates are all done, bent to the right shape.

FixingForm_beforeAfter.jpg
before and after alignment. Since the plates consequently overlap each other, I started with the undermost one. I measured the distance on the outside of the lower one and added ~6mm to get the outside distance for the upper one. That gives me ~3mm on each side for material thickness and a little play to ensure movement.

MoldSketch.jpg
To avoid problems I had on the old molds, I made a little sketch to wrap my head around the steps needed for moldmaking.
I also have some ideas to make the process faster and more precise.

...I also have an idea how to speed up laminating, demolding and cleaning of all parts and the ONLY THING I'm lacking to make that happen is a 5-axis CNC-router... :rolleyes
soooooo if anyone would like to give one to me... :D :facepalm

I made a quick, crude video to show you how these move:

Hope that helps!? :D

Haha! Great!

Not only does your video REALLY show the movement, but it also made me LOL:D

Thanks!

Me too!

Thanks for the video, it really shows the flexibility and all the angles of your fine work!

Deposit sent! And look forward to more progress and mold making! :cheers

Hey guys, thanks for the positive comments about my video :)
Stivie : I've seen your video about your home theater and LotR collection.... O....M....G...!!!
You have to promise to me to never let me visit you...I would probably either spontaneously stop breathing or start hyperventilating for 1h!! :eek

You guys have to see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNlrmQj-ki4

About the gauntlets: Had a Friends&Family weekend and couldn't do much work, but I sprayed some parts, on which I had done some filling, to see how the surface really looks. For the most part I'm quite happy, but there are 2-3 pieces which need some more work.

They look a bit like plastic with the paint, but that will be different once the final pieces are are laminated witch iron-infused fiberglass :)
