My Pred Bios

i use paper towels to smooth mineral spirits.

mineral spirits or white spirits work just as well as alcohol without the smell.

Thanks for all the info guys, the main problem I'm having is getting rid of wall the waves in the sculpt. I do believe I'm going to mold it and make a cast then use bondo, since I'm more comfortable with it. Since I've been making halo helmets for a while now. I'm just gonna take my time and read over Hez's threads just so that I don't make any mistakes and waste anything.

One question, does anyone know if using silicone in a kitchen with one window would be alright. Because making a mold in 90 degree weather is not ideal?

Looking great sir. I would suggest maybe adding more clay to the wavy parts and then recutting it to even it out. If you get what i am saying. LOLJust keep working it slowly bro. You'll get there. I had the same problems when I first started sculpting. Years later I have found samll things like that to work best.

Update time. First thanks to hez for making the molding tutorials, if not for those I probably would have messed this up way worse than it is.

I wish, I planned ahead and took a little more time. Would've made my life easier and the mold may have come out better. The silicone phase went pretty smoothly up until the mold keys. Then I didn't put enough layers of fiberglass on the mother mold, it's not 100% rigid. Although I can fix that tomorrow when I get more fiberglass.

Then I went on to making a cast and that was a challenge mainly because the plastic was curing way to fast, I'm pretty sure it's because I was outside.

I'm also, wondering if it's wise to cast bios using fiberglass resin. I've seen one person do and from what I've seen they are durable? It would be alot easier to use resin, instead of wasting the money(during these trial stages).

The cast came out pretty good, it is thin in some areas and one of the mold keys came out cause the dent on the dome. For the thin areas, I'll fill them with rondo tomorrow, that way I know it'll be strong enough for me to start sanding and refining the piece. That way, I'm ready for the second mold attempt.

Thanks.

Awesome stuff here! I enjoy seeing the process of molding and casting, and I totally agree - hez did such an amazing job with his tutorial.

how'd i miss this one ???

awesome job man,......don't know how long it took but it looks like ya spent alot of time on symmetry and detail
very very good mang,........makes me wanna go get somethig done instead of sitting here,.....

I appreciate the comments guys. Work has begun on fixing all the defects in the cast that I made along with making it smooth. I decided to take pictures with it sitting next to my pepekura bio.

Thanks

Oh, Philby, it took about a month based on when I first posted but, in reality it probably only took about 15-20 days of on and off working.

Wow, brother. Super impressed! Really have to give it to you for your tenacity for perfection (Similar mindset). The overall sculpt looked phenominal, but with the added effort you're putting into this, you're going to end up with one hell of a bio!

Love this thread - thanks again for posting the pics and updates...going to use this when I do mine.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

I got some new pics but, it's just showing the work I've done on the dome. You'd just have to imagine that it had a baseball size dent right in the middle of it before these.

A while back I got a bio from Ice at a discounted price mainly because this thing as so many layers of plastic. lol. Well I was originally gonna try to do a Big Red paint job but, I kinda lost interest in that. I still wanted to do a tribal type thing while still practicing my blast mark paint jobs. So this is what I got.

I also set it next to my bio so you can see how small/big his bio is compared to the one I sculpted. Idk if that's good or bad.

lol, talk about necro post.

So, i've been outta of the prop making scene for a while now. I just kinda lost interest and a lot of my projects have died. I'm trying to resurrect a few of them and this pred bio is one of the few. I'm not saying this thing will be done in the next few days. I'm just saying I haven't forgotten about it.

So I want to thank everyone that was commenting on it and giving me support. I hope to have a finished product for you guys sometime this year. lmao.

Found it in my closet this morning and decided to do some sanding.

It's almost been a year since I started this. A lot has happened and prop making took a backseat, but I now have the time and funds to start back up and here is what's going on.
