My COMPLETED Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver collection......for now;)

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

I believe it's in the same wave as the Other Doctor / War Doctor sonic.
Souldn't they have advertised it already? The War Doctor sonic comes out in january and there are already preorders for the february release of the War Doctor figure too.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

There are / were some already on ebay. It's part of the "heritage" line of sonics, which includes the War Doctor sonic and other cheaper versions of sonics (like an 11th sonic that doesn't extend).

You are right, I found one on ebay. I thought it was announced but never released (just like the ironside daleks with sound fx) because I haven't seen it anywhere.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

I can't find any:\ I'll have to keep looking.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

The auction I found closed 2 hours after I found it :/

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

My suspicion is that the 8th Doctor CO toy works the same way as the 3rd and 4th Doctor sonic toys and it's not telescopic as it was in the tv movie. Could anyone tell wether it's the case or not?

The eighth sonic from CO doesn't have any sliding activation or sliding features. It has a button on the grip which looks more like a pressure-plate.

I thought that was the battery compartment :confused

To be honest, the 8th Doctor sonic looks like it has the sliding function that the other classic era sonic from CO have. I can't imagine they'd make an entirely new sculpt for the body just for that one relatively obscure model.

Thanks. Well at least that detail is somewhat accurate.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Which detail?
That it is not sliding. I thought it (they CO toy) works just like the 3rd and 4th Doctor sonic, but I don't remember McGann using it that way (but maybe I'm wrong)

I have no idea why they changed it, it does seem rather odd. I'm just glad they're releasing it.

There is a pic of the prototype somewhere out there.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

And FYI the "Other Doctor Sonic" is starting to show up at some online retailers in the US. It looks like the MSRP could actually be around $35.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Can I just take a few moments to be a real geek and express just how amazed and thankful I am that we can now walk into a toy store and buy sonic screwdrivers?

My fifteen year old self would freak out if I told him that in 15 years he could stroll into any toys'r' us and pick up a sonic....

....probably because he was suddenly confronted with a terrifying vision of his future...but i'd like to think also about the sonics.

We've never had it better.

Geek moment over.

Just replace Toys'r'us with "the internet" (cause there are no toystore around here that would carry such things) and/or with "a friend who lives in the UK" and I absolutely agree. Same with comic books, not just toys (comics in Hungary...yeah, forget it).

My War Doctor screwdriver just arrived today (the friend who lives in the UK picked one up at the celebration and sent it to me). I love it, but strangely, it looks smaller than the 4th doctor sonic (I know it's the same, but without the emitter it looks just a littlebit tinier for me).

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

Strange Amazon listing. The vendor, ABCTOY4ME, usually has it for a relatively normal price of $25. I wonder why the Amazon listing is so massively spiked?...
Doctor Who Fourth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver, ABCTOY4ME

Luckily for you, they seem to still have their Black Friday sales applied to certain products, most notably a lot of the Screwdrivers, and they might possibly still be shipping out a free pack of Doctor Who figures which each DW purchase, if you're into that.

Images might not match up to their current products though, so you might want to ask what version they have, although my guess is the rerelease versions.

Re: Question about which Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers to buy......

LOL- Wow, that IS weird.

They're releasing a Davison sonic, too??!! I actually had no idea he had one.:lol Awesome.

My 10th arrived yesterday, and my 3rd, 4th, and River Song sonics arrived today. The completionist in me is geeking out.:lol

Davison's sonic was destroyed in his fourth story, "The visitation", so he hasn't had it for long. But he waved it around in "Four to doomsday" almost as much as Baker in a whole season :)

Your 3rd, 4th and River Song sonics are the new releases?
