My Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: Armageddon Freedom Shuttle (finished)

Re: My next Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle

You are an excellent sculptor.
I am naught but a humble pirate.:)

Pretty much done now. May do a last minute tweak before painting as the mood strikes, but this is basically it:

Back to my Vipers now, more pix of the shuttle during painting!:love

Like I said, sorcerer. Looking great :thumbsup

Re: My next Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle

Nice touch using the main gear struts as greeblie detail in the engine area.

Re: My next Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle

Screw it! I'll build one of mine too, I need a break from the DeLorean's.

What do you think I should do to modify it? :)

Re: My next Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle

I'd slant the intakes back a little at the top, but it looks pretty darn good IMO. :thumbsup

Well, I just noticed that the body is just a little too wide, but that's a minor thing that I don't think is worth the trouble of a week of sanding to correct. On mine, it's just wide enough, but if I'd gone crazy & added the full bulge of the 'cheeks' it would be, well, like the FP model.

Edit to add: the FP model is pretty accurate, actually.

Wow! At least in this photo it looks exceptionally clean. I mean how does the primer look around those areas where the kit plastic and the putty meet? Usually you can see a little uneveness there, at least after the first primer coat, but it doesn't appear to be so here.
I can only assume you sanded the crap out of this so much before priming, to a degree unheard of in modern modelling, that you achieved the legendary and elusive "perfect" first coat.

Actually, this is the second coat- the first one last night revealed a few inconsistencies that needed attention. But not many, thank the Lords of Kobol!!:lol Yeah, I did sand the crap out of it...
Also, the few areas that still show tiny flaws will become meteor hits, heh heh. Another good (and interesting to create) thing about making it a post- Roadrunner Thrust Maneuver shuttle.:cool

Re: My next Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle

FRAK! The decals for the Revell model that say "UNITED STATES" are waaaaay too big!!:angry
GRRR ARGH! And it's U.S. Airforce.

I sure ain't gonna letter it by hand! Another challenge.:wacko

Edit to add: I just checked my local excellent model store, and they don't have any loose decals for sale that small. Hmmm- art supply? White press-ons with the centers coloured in perhaps?

Great work!!!
Tim
WOW! The highest praise indeed! I love the movie & hope to do justice to my model of the Freedom with my paint job!
Geez, my total price tag on this so far is $29.00- if I had $200.00 I could do a lighted cockpit & whatnot.
I'll love my model in any case.
Thanks Tim, more pix, more accuracy!:love

Re: My Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle

Remember when a model company made fairly decent replicas of the items they were modeling. Now a days they seems to just modify an existing kit with a few extra touches. hence this kit.

You shoud send them some pictures to show them how it should have been done! seriously.

Nice job. I too, can't wait to see this painted up.

Re: My Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle

I'm afraid MY shuttle won't come anywhere CLOSE to the magnificence of that studio model...:cry

Anyway, painting has begun.

And why say that? It certainly looks closer than most anything else I've seen. Sure there are differences, but the spirit of the X-71 is certainly there from what I can see. Just don't skimp on the paintjob as that can take as much work to do as the model if done right.
