My 2014 Tron Legacy "Evil Tron" Suit Build

So finally before I decided to call it quits for the night we got some of the lights in place on the suit for testing this week. We made sure the thing would work prior by putting on the suit and making sure that the tiles wouldnt restrict movement or hinder me from sitting... pretty important at dragoncon. ITs coming together and I can't wait to get it on and see it all lit up. I'll post the light up pics as soon as i figure out the wiring of it this week.

Sweet!!!! Be sure to post lots of pics! :D

No, I haven't thrown mine on here, yet. I'm still early on. I decided to cut out the armor from neoprene foam, so I'm still working on cutting them out and fitting them. It's taking longer than anticipated since I live alone and don't have any help with fitting! xD But, I'm really trying to get mine done by Dragon*Con!

ALMOST THERE. I turned on the suit last night being fully complete, and I need to make a few revisions. #1 being the EL light Color. I'm not really happy with the color of the EL Lights. They look more white than orange when they are on, so I've bought Golden Amber Light Gels, that i fortunately found online for 1.50 for a 10" X 10" square... so i should have those by tonight, then ill cut them out and Post the before and after pictures after ive gotten it how i want it. Its alot of small things, but they'll add up in the final looks.

Just wanted to keep everyone posted. RESULTS TO COME!

Yes He Did. He freakin Killed it on the helmet. I know he's around here on the forums somewhere. Jumping Hi Five Crimson490!!

OK LIGHT COMPARISONS. I am much much happier now with the Golden Amber Gels on the lights. You'll see what i mean in the Side By Side. You see that the ORANGE EL TAPE, is NOT! Orange whatsoever. BUT now it rocks and matches the EL Wire that's in the Helmet.

BATTERY MADDNESS has begun. I've finally figured out the right "Tetris" placement to get the back piece to fit over all 6 battery packs (filled with 8 AA Batteries). I'm going to put the Inverters on my back waist towards my spine to have easy Turn on and Turn Off Switches. I'm also going to run all the cables right down the spine in an orderly fashion and put the excess underneath the back disc with the battery packs. WHEW. IT FREAKING FITS AND WORKS!! MORE Progress to come this weekend!

Hi five! ;)
If you're looking to carry less battery bulk, the helmet will work just fine off of a 9 volt battery (though not quite as bright or as long).

WELP, Here's The First OFFICIAL TEST RUN! Its on a mannequin, but I'll be wearing it tomorrow. I have some cables runs to do in the morning! I'll have the 2 Discs, and Full suit on tomorrow night for the first TEST RUN!! STOKED!

Wow - well done! This is worthy of resurrecting the Tron costume thread: with a killer photo from tomorrow's test run.

Thanks Brotha! And As for the 9 volt, I'll need to try and get 5-6 hours out of the entire suit, so i made as much room as I could under the disc in the back. So far... No issues. Tomorrow will be the True Test. I'll update it here as soon as I'm done trying it out.

AS Promised, Here's my first time wearing the "Evil" Tron Legacy Suit. The Helmet blew the inverter (Which i have now ordered a new one and a backup) so its everything but the Helmet. ROCKIN!

Hi, I just read through all of your progress on this suit and I'm very impressed on the outcome. I myself am looking to make a "Sam Flynn" suit soon. I have been to many sites researching my options on how to put it together. I have found a very nice identity disc online for $284 from fatal5150 and I also have inquired to UDreplicas.com for a Tron suit from them (waiting to hear back from them). Question : In your experience, why do you say EL tape is fragile? I have not bought and used it before yet but I found a great set on http://elwirecraft.co.uk/ to hook up to my own design. They also seem to have fixed the inverter problem with enough power (8 AA's) and 3-4-5-6 way splitters. I am considering making my own vacuform table to make a Helmet to spec and LED lighting. Another question : Why have you used the tile laminate instead of velcro? I have seen some pics of the original wear form the movie and the Siren suit, at least, has the EL tape velcroed on. I suppose this question will be answered along with the first one. Sorry I threw all of this at you at once, but as you can tell.....We are all excited to have a Tron suit! Am I right?

Also...Where can I get the helmet you bought? :)

The EL panels require conductive parts either side of the phosphors, to much flex can break the conductive layer. If you look at the tron costumes you will notice they have gaps at heavy movement areas, elbows, shoulders, etc.

Re: My 2014 Tron Legacy "Evil Tron" Suit Build

Hey jjs,

I've talked with David About the Tron Suits Prior to doing mine, as his leather work is FANTASTIC, I actually own a Batman TDKR Suit. But he will NOT sell them until hes ready to build them again, if a Sequal Comes out ect.

No on the EL Tape part, they are fragile, only in the section with the connections, I've found the wire slip out easily even with a good solder joint, so i put them like this to ease the tension on the cables and have some predictable slack.

Now the most important question here, the VELCRO. I would not reccommend doing this, unless its only for a 1 time use. The velcro, once heated with body heat from wearing the suit around, will fall off. I even reinforced it with contact cement for leather.... no good. I used the lamenant tiles to keep the EL tape flat and form fitting, its light and rigid, so it keeps the suit looking perfect no matter where im at, that worked great... especially for getting the suit on and off without ripping cables out, i just pulled the tiles off which took the lights with them.

Also the Helmet was made by someone on the RPF called Crimson490, hes a BADASS, and he actually makes 3 helmets, the one hes currently on is the BlackGuard from Tron. VERY AWESOME.

Let me know if you have any other questions, as this thing was a BEAST
