MR Fett rifle pics at Rebelscum

That's fine if you sell it as a kit, but this is supposed to be a movie accurate replica good to go out of the box. I'm sure if someone here was to run a machined steel kit at the same numbers MR had made it'd work out a helluva lot cheaper too.

Did anyone here visit the San Francisco Art of Star Wars exhibit
back in 1995?
Was the Boba Fett Blaster in that exhibit screen used?

To be fair, when you buy an MR item, a good chunk of it goes to Unce George actually...:unsure

For the money people shell out on these props I'd expect to get a finished piece. Not something that looks like a vector art image. ICK.

That really is no excuse or reason at all. Whether LFL gets .02 or $200... doesn't change the unacceptable paintjob on this piece.

Wonder if the paintjob was the reason for the long wait on this piece. For such a cool piece, I really thought they would have got this blaster spot on.

i think most people prefer it to look screen used over idealized and new looking...however, noone can convince me the 2 pics shown earlier look the same. The screen used looks great, the MR terrible. The rust paint looks fine, its the black spots that look 'too clean'. It looks like it 'was painted like that' as opposed to 'was weathered like that'...

If anyone is not following the Rebelscum thread, take a look. I know some people are just collectors and don't care if it's not totally accurate, but some of the people seem to go out of their way to defend a bad paintjob. Several insist that this is what the movie prop looked like, and not like the props that are going to various exhibits (Smithsonian, COSI, etc.). Those aren't real apparently, but the movie version looked just like the MR paintjob. :rolleyes

I have to say that has to be one of the worst replication of a paint job ever. Who in the heck is responsible for quality control over there... Looks like a room of 5 year old kids painted the darn thing...It would have been better to have it all cleaned and have the buyer choose to weather it if they want.. Now you'll have to take a step backwards just to go forward to make it look right... Glad I didn't buy one... My resin Gun looks better then that and it's been dropped and cracked 3 times..

If it makes anyone feels only slightly better...China sure has a heck of time trying to figure how this stuff was painted and if you want to chat me up and you'll be Comic Con let me know.

I don't frequent Rebelscum that much however not sure how they can defend it (although I appreciate it) but it does need some beating up. I painted the rifles initially a gloss black and then I masked them off and sprayed them with weathered black. Gives it that shiney under layer with the dull one on top. With the MR SW license going I pretty much assume this is last bit of work I'll be doing for them although I hope not, we did try to get it right and I think what China turned out is as much of a shock to the insiders as it was to the fans.

I feel I am partially to blame for this since I debated while doing these we have to blend the look of 5 different rifles into one and there was concern about this. However my protos I would have been proud to display in my collection I would definitely beat the hell out of the factory one when I get one. I guess if you have anyone to blame it would be me. I am very sorry it has come out this way and to everyone I appologize.

You will be happy to know the X-wing was so darn dirty (still not as dirty as the archival red-5) it should allow for some backout by the factory and still look adequate. This was done due to the fact that we are realizing that the more weathering you place on an item the better it looks from the factory. Kind of over weather since they don't interpret all of the detail. Unfortunately some of this is coming late down the line and I think you are seeing some of your last hopes for some decent SW swag for a long time. Albeit, plastic toys and action figures.

The Fett helmet will definitely kick anything that has ever been done by a licensed mfgr. If it needs tweaking just tweak it. It took me almost 24 hours in work time to paint one helmet and the last one (which was the best of the protos to me) took me 8 hours from start to finish and I was beat!.

This will all be coming to an end soon and all the hopes and desires for these pieces can be shelved until someone pays multi millions to LFL to crank it back up. I know the fans will kick back in their wonderful talents to make up for this but these pieces are licensed and if they need a repaint I would do it. But getting an accurate copy from achival reference (less paint job) ain't bad considering most not all fanmade items have great paintjobs but when compared to the real stuff what's under the paint is grossly inaccurate to screenused copies and the X-wing is a great example there are details and pieces on this we never knew about not to mention the fusleage is much larger than people realize too.

I paid a lot for my casting of Fett's helmet and from MR you can get the most accurate casting ever made available publicly for a fraction of what I paid for mine and trust me they are extremely close in comparison where as any other helmet copies don't hold a candle to what MR is about to release as far as dimensional accuracy. If I didn't have an orginal casting this would be my last and only choice for a Fett helmet. Thanks for reading.

Rogue,

You shouldn't feel partially at blame.. I've seen your work and it's amazing. I'm just shocked that MR knows about the people they are dealing with as customers and they get your hopes up and then you open your box up and BANG... the first words out of your mouth is WTF??

Not your fault at all.

No one blames you Lee, the blaster that MR delivers has nothing to do with your paint job. This is really sad, I am waiting for mine, knowing it will not look any good. I would have paid double the amount MR is asking, if it had been painted the way you painted it.

Well thanks folks and I'm not doing the poor me thing but I do feel partially responsible. Of course after I turn it over it's out of my hands but I thought I would at least be honorable enough to step up to the plate and take some portion of the responsibility on this. Your concerns are being heard I'm just not so sure it's fixable at this juncture.

Don't take any blame for that factory paint job. Its the folks at the factory that should be apologetic. You did your part of the job and passed it down.

Very nice gesture, though.

Nice gesture, indeed.

I will wait to see mine in person. I'm thinking I will leave it as is. If it REALLY bothers me, I'll repaint it. :)

I, too, will likely get mine re-painted, too. Or do it myself if Lee can share some easy tips to improve it. Mine should arrive in a few days, so I'm eager to see what it looks like in person.

Yeah folks just let me know and I'll put something together it's actually very easy to do. Just may have to track down some materials and that's all.

Rogue -

all really great points. I will really miss the Star Wars MR line.

Interesting comments on the X-wing.

I still have to get the Falcon and sign up for the Trooper Helmet and perhaps the Boba.

Don't feel like we're beating on you. There's a lot of decision making between you and the factory. I still think the Fett rifle is a good solid prop once it get's a repaint.
