MR Assualt Phaser Delivered!

Actually Shatner had quite a bit to do with the Assault phaser (at least according to him). He was the director and he wanted a 'macho' phaser and worked with (IIRC) Nilo on the design. He wanted it to be like a real 'gun'.
The P1 was supposed to be an homage to the modular design of the original but was discarded for much the same reason the cricket was in NG...it didnt show on screen.
As far as fantasy pieces...there was a chekov tricorder and comm made for Generations but never seen (the skydive scene) but they do exist....not everything made for a movie makes the screen.

"I really think the only reason the P1 is there is because Shatner wanted it there."

I really doubt Bill gave a Shat about the props.

Yes! That's exactly what happens :rolleyes

Yep, that is what happens. You have to clip it back into the mag every time you put the mag back in. I usually leave it on the stand and only put it in when showing it off.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I received my replacement Assault Phaser yesterday from MR and it’s night and day from the first one I received, I’m very pleased with it.

Big thanks goes out to CSTom at MR for getting this turned around quickly for me.

That's really great. I'm glad they came through for you.

This is reassuring to hear. Now I'm eager again for the authorized dealers to get theirs so that I can get mine.

Thanks, both you and Steve have helped to clear up a lot of misconceptions that for some reason a lot of people keep stating as fact. I'm still reading things on other forums by people who think they are experts about the originals and how bad MR's Phaser is compared to them, so it is refreshing to hear from people who REALLY know what they are talking about.

Thanks Steve (good to see you around, btw). Look I LOVE my AA phasers, which are great to play with with my son. I sold my MR TOS phaser to pay some bills. I might even hot rod up an AA phaser as time goes on.

But I agree that to say a $30.00 toy outclasses a $400 prop is not reality in most cases. Now value for your play/display dollar if you are not a lunatic fan of the item in question, the AA's are great. I use mine every day !

The truth, and someone said it here in another thread, my MR stuff was just that ...stuff. I needed the money and cared more for my family than the stuff. The AA's for me are just fine and keep me out of the proverbial "hole" :D

I have my assault phaser ordered and I have my fingers crossed VERY tightly.

The really sad thing is; I've read that MR is having problems and that future Trek products could be dubious. With this said, this Assault phaser could be the last phaser product produced by them.

Now back on topic. Thanks Onigiri and Steve for your comments. You've both reassured me on my purchase.

I received mine today. I really don't like the "dusty" finish or the different coloring of the blue base. I think the heft is fine and all of the actions are very cool. I don't like the rattling around when you move it, even with the p2 snugged down, seems like the trigger is making the sound. I really wish they would have at least painted the "corn cob" silver. Overall I would rate 7/10...It is OK but it could have been great! :unsure

I received mine this week as well. Thanks Sycor! You da man!
I like it a lot. It is definitely one of my favorites phasers. It has a few "odd" things about it that I personally wouldn't have done, but I was long gone at that point. I am just happy that this replica got out at all. I thought it was killed-off back in 2003! Now where's that Klingon Battlecruiser we started working on???

FYI: The "corncob" should be medium gray. Everything else is that semi-matt-black-overcoated-with-opaquing-fluid finish.

The upper cowl and rear part are DEFINITELY diecast metal. I have confirmed that.

Mine sits at an odd angle in the case :unsure It bugs me, but I THINK I can survive. Not sure yet. Needs more testing...

You can't light the P1 up with both the P1 and mag in-place (at least NOT that I can figure out) Isn't that the point of the light in the first place? :confused

(Look at me ragging on MR...now i have to write a nasty, condesending response to myself). :lol

The trigger NOT being able to rapid fire is a bit annoying. I asked Bryan and he said he spec'd it that way (and so did I), but those kookie Chinese factory guys changed the specs and did what THEY wanted (again).

ANYWAY...Whenever I get time, I plan to:

-Fix the seams, sand everything down and repaint with black primer.

-Paint the "corncob" gray.

-Rub a gunmetal graphite powder into the black, leaving only a teensy bit remaining and then seal it with semi-matt clear. That will replicate the finish on the original, pretty well, I think...

I agree...I give it a 7 out of 10 as well.

It has a good beat, but you can't dance to it :lol
