movies you like that everyone else hates

While I agree that the movie doesn't hold up well, I often use these movies as a platform for my kids to enjoy what I enjoyed when I was younger.

And to test the waters! I slipped in some Godzilla the other day and my kids were going nuts! My daughter was cracking some seriously funny jokes ala MST 3000...:lol

:thumbsup

My kids still enjoy it as well. :) It just wasn't what I remembered.

The Lone Rangers! :lol

The story is still fantastic and it's well acted. There are some scenes that still really stick with you. But overall the effects hold it back.

Wut? The story was terrible and the acting was on par with a second grade school play. The creature effects were about the only thing even remotely amusing. Sorry, but watching it was what felt like the most miserable 37 hours of my life.

I don't know what you're talking about. Child actors doing a pretty good job and the story is a classic fantasy and well told.

They were forced to continue making sequels due to Stephen Colbert's threat to sue for false advertising in the title. ;) :lol

Oops! it was Lionel! :$:facepalm I could have sworn SC used that line in his 1st book, another lawsuit! :lol

I have always had a soft spot for the never ending story just because as a youngster I went to the theater to see it with a friend and the film messed up so we went scouting around for trouble as kids do and wondered into Conan so I thank the never ending story for introducing me to what is best in life . I now have two huge Conan tattoos . although I don't like the new Conan very much he was just too nice

The never ending lawsuit.:lol

Some of the effects aren't great, but the art direction is fantastic and the story is decent for a kids film.

Kiki's Delivery Service - OK. I don't know anybody who actually hates it. But many folks I know don't consider it a very significant Miyazaki film. I think it's one of his best ... I see it in the design, detail and perfect characterizations. So many moments draw out feelings familiar to my heart... like the sequence when she wakes up in the bakery in the morning and has to use the toilet. The way the scene is so brilliantly crafted ... and yet it's an insignificant part of the film that is likely forgotten. The town is such a magnificent place ...

... then again each and every Miyazaki film (up to and including Spirited Away) takes a turn at being my favorite at various times.

I absolutely LOVE Miyazaki's films. Pretty much all Studio Ghibli is fantastic, minus a couple (Pom Poko, My Neighbors the Yamatas). A lot of their films get flak for being anticlimactic. You really have to appreciate the meanings behind the films, not just the films themselves. I think people don't 'get' them because nothing really happens in a lot of their films. It's like you watch a day in the life of someone and then its over. No grand ending, no specific point to the movie. It just ends.

And for some reason I can't get enough of it.

Eye's wide shut. I was talking about this tonight with friends. They pulled out the "I hate Tom cruise and Nicole Kidman" card and the reviews that seemed to knock the hell out of it at the time. I remember reading one as well but I watched it because it was Kubrick. Glad I did. I think it's an amazing film. I once asked someone if they'd seen it and they told me they'd been told it was a porn film. FFS! Kill lots of people and no one bats an eye lid, put some boobs on screen and all hell breaks loose!
