More Stunt/dueling lightsaber props from Kenobi

Was scrolling on HeroProp and came across these sabers that are really cool. They were apparently used by background jedi during the Order 66 scenes. It seems now they are using rubber or semi rigid materials. What stumps me is how they are able to get airbrush chrome paint to stick to rubber that well!

I believe it was during one of the BTS docs from RotS that one of the prop masters had commented on a 'new' technique (at the time) where the l they'd perfected getting realistic chrome paint to stick to the rubber stunts. That's the only time I've ever heard of it, so maybe it's a proprietary process.

Either way, very cool pics. Thanks for bringing them to the attention of the forum.

I remember the same thing…

There has to be some kind of base coat they are using. Most belt hangers today are this urethane rubber.

even then, if we look at kenobi’s hilt on his belt at celebration it was missing a lot of paint

Ya i saw the missing/ flaked paint on the celebration hilt. Maybe it's not totally durable?? The paint on these definitely looks like an alclad duralumen or something similar. Since they are using urethane rubber or a flexable resin also makes you wonder how they cram all those electronics in there safely and securely. They say there's a metal tube inside but it's still kind of confusing to think about

Honestly there isn’t much electronics
IMG_9672.jpeg

Electronics in heat shrink, battery connected to the plug in the end

I was kind of shocked at how streamline it is

I know the prop department has a thing for alumaluster

And I swear that’s what they used on the Kenobi rubber stunts

Awesome thanks Halliwax!! It's a question that's been bugging me! I'm one of those few Old School fans that i know who really dig the practical light up props. Honestly thinking about giving this a go design/print and cast in rubber and put some electronics but not sure how practical having a dmx or remote controlled type saber would be. Sounds kind of neat though
