Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Your very talented, great work! Any chance that you would be willing to make a purse on consignment? My little girl LOVES the character and I am nowhere near that talented. Thanks

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

This has turned out amazing! I'm hoping to cosplay Gogo in the future. Hopefully it will turn out as awesome as this project did!

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Hi all, new to the group. Thank for all the posts. Started working on my daughters costume for halloween. Here's some of the progress based on your help. Decided to go with a light up strap for her bag. I'm starting on the bag now. Was a little tougher than I thought. IMG_1810.jpgIMG_1784.jpgIMG_1797.jpg

IMG_1796.JPGHi Binki. I went to Office Depot and they have magnet balls that come in a pack of 5 (approximately $3 per box). They're plastic so it was easy to drill through them. I ran some christmas LED lights through a strip of rubber matting, put the materials over the whole thing, put some contact cement in the balls to keep the lights in place, than put the materials over the whole thing. They light up really well. The rest of the lights will go into her back to light up the table.

That is so awesome! In the distant future I'll probably cosplay Honey Lemon and I'll definitely be implementing this into my costume! But first I have to cosplay Gogo :D

IMG_1839.JPGUpdate: Finished purse and helmet. Little tough making the hidden compartment for the glowing balls. Would have like the helmet to be a little more refined.

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Hi, I just found this build and had a quick question about the helmet. So the first template you made was for the upholstery foam for the inside of the helmet? Is it a complete template or just the sides?

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Ultimately, that's what I did with the upholstery foam, but originally I used the foam to build up volume to get the helmet size where I wanted it. Once I had built up the volume, i created the template for my EVA foam that became the main helmet.

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Thanks! My daughter wants to dress up as Honey Lemon and your post will help me figure out what i have gotten myself into.:) Do you have any build pics of the body armor?

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Did you make the tights for under the dress or did you make them? If so what kind of fabric did you use? Also How thick was the foam that you used on the inside and outside of the helmet?

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Bought the tights. I think it was 7mm thick foam. The kind they sell in rolls for floor mats (not the thicker interlocking squares). The inside foam was probably 0.5" thick upholstery foam

I just noticed that this build thread has 17K likes! I am truly humbled. This hobby of mine has been a ton of fun and my kids have loved the attention they get when wearing their costumes. Thank you all so much for the positive feedback!

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

This thread has really helped me with my HL costume! Thanks so much. I just wanted to ask what the long sleeve top is your daughter is wearing under the chest plate and dress? I am struggling to find something similar. Thanks again.

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

The fuscia top is a "running" shirt we found at Kohls. The black webbing shirt is actually just the same black webbing leggings. We just cut a hole in the crotch for her head to go through and cut a thumb hole.

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

love this thread! But I need your help! My granddaughter's (2 and 5 years old) have decided they want to go as Honey Lemon and GoGo for Halloween.
I'm pretty new to this whole EVA foam crafting but I did make a Batman armoured helmet from the upcoming movie.
It turned pretty good considering it was my first. Anyway I tried making a Honey Lemon helmet using Evil Ted's method. I used a female styrofoam head as my base thinking it would be more than big enough. But after cutting my tape/foil patterns and glueing the pieces together, I was shocked(well maybe not shocked but def surprised!) that the helmet is actually so small that it doesn't even fit the mannequins head. I've watched and re-watched Evil Ted's video and can't figure out what I did wrong. I think as is, it will fit my 2 year old grand-daughter. But I'm not sure about the 5 year old. I won't be seeing them until tomorrow to test. Any suggestions? I'd like to get the helmets finished so I can start on the chest pieces, etc. thank you for any input.

How thick is the foam that you are using? Remember, you will be reducing the inside diameter of your helmet by twice the thickness of the foam, so if it's really thick your helmet will be much smaller on the inside. Try building up the size of the foam head with upholstery foam. I used my initial template to create a "shell" in 1/2"-3/4" thick upholstery foam. I then repeated the process and created a new/larger template over the upholstery foam. This helped build up the size of the helmet.
