Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

This is amazing! I want to cosplay this version of Honey Lemon, but I'm having difficulty getting a template for her helmet and her chest piece. Amazing work!

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Everything I did was custom since I couldn't find any files online. I have to be honest, I'm a little shocked at how well the helmet came out. I'm really pleased with it. By the way, the visor is from a motor cycle helmet. I went to my local Harley dealer. Needed to cut a piece off, but the rest went very smoothly.

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

What was your experience with the contact cement? I'm debating shelling out the extra for barge or if DAP works well enough I'll take that option. I know you didn't like using it but why is that?

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

rust-oleum has fish oil in it - I would never use it for craft purposes as it does not mix well with others.

most auto-body shops hate the stuff as well- cause it messes with bondo

Very true. I've had issues with this stuff also. Its best just to use a flat acrylic paint from micheals or jo anns then spray a clear coat on it thats acyrlic also

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Hey, could you explain how you did the chest piece? Was it the same idea as how you constructed the helmet? Thank you!

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Same process! I built a template using the same process as the helmet. I apply upholstery foam first, if I'm trying to build up thickness in certain sections.

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

amazing stuff. im working on a honey lemon costume as well. how does one print on transparency paper though? im assuming you just can't find some transparent paper and stick it in your personal printer?? very curious indeed. thankyou!

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Office stores do sell transparency paper that can be printed on. It's a bit pricey though. Fortunately, my wife uses alot of this for her mural paintings so I had plenty on hand. It made a great effect. Worst case, you could print the design on card stock and just put a clear overlay on it to give it a touchscreen look.

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

hmmm.. im almost done with my rendition.. only the bag and helmet are left. for the transparency paper, is it typically clear? or did you find a black one? i've never used it before, so im just curious before i start buying things that are incorrect.

i really liked how your bag turned out. unfortunately, the people who are doing the big hero 6 crew are all adults, so i have to make everything a tad bit bigger. i am using the plastic balls found in play pens for mine.. how did you attach the balls to the straps by chance?

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Transparency paper is clear. I printed the design, with a black background, mirrored onto the transparency paper. I then placed a sheet of thin white craft foam behind it to give the touch screen look.

For the strap I used a length of thicker foam and made a little divet in the foam where I wanted the ball to go using the flat end of a sanding bit on my dremel. This trick is often ised with foam for making circular details. I then hot glued the painted ping pong balls in place. It worked very well.

Good luck! Looking great so far!

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6

Arrggghhh! Was doing layers of primer and think I just found an incompatability between two different brands! I had a good base coat of white Krylon and sprayed a layer of gray rust-oleum automobile primer and got this "lovely" effect!

I'm officially aggravated!

While it's aggravating for what you wanted, keep that combo in mind. It's hard to get that mottled / cracked effect.

Take a look at post 17 and 18 in my build thread. You'll see the transparency I printed. By the way, and white you see is a blank white sheet of paper the transparency is sitting on. Also, a few posts before is the image I created and printed on the transparency. You should be able to save it and print it. Like I said, i printed it mirrored so the glossiness of the transparency paper was on the outside. It really turned out nicely! If only I could find a large enough sheet of EL tape then I could illuminate it!

Re: Honey Lemon - Big Hero 6
