Never said he'd care. But he'd certainly know whether the sonic he used extensively for years were gold or cream, no?

Unlikely. Ask any Trek actor if they noticed half the changes in Tricorders that have been shown here. A prop is such a small part of production, especially for an actor.

David actually has three of mine, with heritage gold finish, that I gave him while we were filming the Catherine Tate Xmas special back in early November. He loved them and thought they were spot on!

I also have three which David signed for me with a Sharpie on top of the Heritage Gold crackle finish. I like to collect the odd little souvenir. Russell T also has one, and Julie Gardner, I gave them theirs at the screening of the last episode at BBC TV centre in late December. Nick Robatto has one I gave him too as thanks for all his help with reference material. Strangely none of these people ever questioned the colour... Hmmm. can you guess why that is?

Regarding the laser not being in question. The point was if the crackle on the laser is the cream colour plastikote and it's different than the paint on the sonic int he same image then what colour is the sonic if you have all of three colours in the plasti-kote range to choose from; cream, black and heritage gold....?

...I'll help you there. It's NOT Cream, it's clearly NOT black so it must be.......... Heritage gold anyone?

Anyone tried the photoshop test yet?

Not in the case of the Sonic Screwdriver. David Tennant had quite an affection for his Sonic. When filming The End of Time part II, specifically the scene up on the spaceship, he noted that it was going to be the last time his Doctor ever Sonic'd anything.

Matt Smith said that the prop department gave him his Sonic weeks before shooting so he could get a feel for it and make it his own. I imagine they did the same for Tennant. And I doubt you'll find any Trek actor who spent half as much time with a Tricorder as Tennant did with that Sonic.

Also, I was being silly. It'd probably be Nick Robatto or someone we'd want to chime in.

And, just to be clear, I do think that the MFX is a very nice piece of work. If it were the only option going (and not sold out) I would totally buy one and probably be quite happy with it. I just feel as if we're being misled and, as it happens, there is another (not sold out) option available. The manufacturer may be an abrasive ass, but he clearly knows his ****, can admit when he's wrong, and doesn't seem to lie to cover mistakes. Also, he's just as licensed as anyone selling an MFX these days...

So, are you actually saying that the props department switched from Plastikote Cream to Heritage Gold in Season 4?

Why?

I've seen and photographed the burnt out sonics (3 of them, all the exact same colour) used in Smith & Jones in person, and they quite definiteley were not Heritage Gold....

David Tennant had quite an affection for his Sonic.

Which is why this:

Carries a bit of weight I think. I don't have either of these sonics because my pockets aren't nearly deep enough but if someone is upset with their MFX one because it has Heritage Gold Crackle I'll gladly take it off your hands. I think mfxreplicas has presented a good argument for this being the right colour and all he seems to get in response is "No, the colour is wrong! I saw it in on TV!". I trained as a DP for many years and these things rarely look it's real colour on screen due to all the lighting tricks used on set for even the most simple scene.

I don't know about the other prop details that are mentioned here but let the colour thing rest. When it comes to believing something like that I'll take the word of someone who's held the actual prop over that of someone who hasn't.

Anyone who has an mfx sonic can see plain as day that the sonic in those pics and onscreen is not by any imagination heritage gold. To say it is is an insult to our intelligence and I won't forgive that easily. As someone has just put in his blog: you can make the cream crackle look yellow in artificial light, but you cannot make heritage cold look White or gray. I don't mind having a yellow sonic, but denying that the prop is gray is absurd.

Let's all just take our Retcon, and agree to disagree...through the magic of drug-induced amnesia.

Neill, I hope you never have to make a replica of Retcon, people would claim that it didn't actually give them amnesia or that you replaced the pills with Tic Tacs.

For having as much patience as you do to put up with all of this, Neill, if I'm ever in your part of the world, I'm buying you a pint...I know I'd need one after this thead. :p

And I'd be accepting the drink heartily mate. :cheers

I mean, the level of grief I'm getting from some folk, you'd think it was CT posting here himself.........!!!! :confused:lol

That would be because your are insulting our intelligence, mate, and like Solitaire, I don't take kindly to that.

I've been here along time, and I don't think I've ever been been driven to call someone a liar. You take that award, and I don't care who you are.

I actually like your sonic, as wrong as it is (undoubtably proven by your own pictures), but I don't like being fed this crap. Out of here, this is a joke, and not a funny one :angry

But the sonic did photo grey ?

I'm no expert (clearly) but I think that the TV lights could wash the yellow colour down to a grey and also they use a lot of colour correction in the final edit (shown several times in Confidential)

I still don't know for sure either way :wacko

Just a quick example of what I was saying about Lights/Colour correction

Clearly David's suit is brown but in the broadcast it is more grey

If that's the case there should be a few pictures of the gold sonic out there. Not every picture of it can be wrong. That suit picture shows it perfectly. Find one of the gold sonic seeing as you did so with the suit. NMRs picture needs to be taken close up like the mfx picture. Let's see some people do that.

Ah, but the coat there looks a light fawny brown - and we know from people who own swatches of have seen the original that it's darker and less yellow.

Sorry to butt in here, especially as my first post. But that above comparison picture of the prop photos and MFX photos. The MFX colour under flash, looks closer to the actual prop without flash...
