Mildly Interesting Blade Runner-ish Toy (Includes Pic)

Not sure if anyone else has seen one of these, apologies if so.
I picked it up at a local 'This & That' sort of shop, recognised the shape from outside the window and homed in on it like a guided missile. OK, it's far too small, it's completely wrong in every dimension, and it's made about as badly as Chinese tut can be made; but the people who made it are obviously trying to tap into something:

When I took the pic, I couldn't find a ruler so I opted for a pretty universal reference for scale: the AA battery. Hope it works OK.

Wow!
What an odd reincarnation of the BR blaster. It is obvious that the film's blaster design was the inspiration for the toy - but why? Was one of the artists at the factory a big BR fan? Was it just randomly chosen from a google image search for "sci-fi gun"? Ahhh... the great mysteries of life....

Thanks for sharing!

OK, I want one of those to bash and repaint. Not into a proper BR gun, but just to play around with.

I kept hearing reports of a "Dollar Store" Chinese knock off of the gun, but this is the first time I have seen a picture. Kind of cool and kind of sad too. I need to get one now, even sadder ;)

The Light gun was first made for the arcade version of Sega's 'Virtua Cop' and then the home version for Sega Genesis. Good to see it is still out there.

Yup, very "Bladerunnery". But if you look at it a little longer, tell me it wouldn't make a great MiB prop pistol. :love

Took me a minute of looking at the picture, but YEAH, that's weird. Obviously a mutant knock off of the blade runner gun. Great find.

Well, ovefr here, this is what I got months ago.....

Man, that's even better! Who knew there were so many people knocking off the PKD? I wonder if this is a result of the "offworld" gun that was produced overseas? You know, maybe that got the "stink" of blade runner guns into the market, and they ran with it???

So that's what smells... the stench of Bladerunner guns. :lol

Now I need the streets... and I need food. :unsure

They didn't only copy the gun:

The graphic designer had to have gotten instructions from the project manager to knock off the BR font, just as the product designer was told to knock off the blaster, and of course add a "New type Flashing enter" feature, lol!

Well, as they say: mimicry is the best form of flattery - especially in China, Land of IP Rip-Offs (or Rip-Off-World, for short)! :lol

A new prop awaits you in the Rip-Offworld Colonies.

A chance to buy again, a golden opportunity, what an adventure.

Let's go... to Chinatown!

:D

Actually, if we're talking Rip-Offworld Colonies, then we must meet in Hong Kong, baby!

I like the 'specifications, colours and contents may vary from illustrations' bit.

If you're in reasonable commuting distance, it's in East London on Barking Road, near the Green Gate pub at the crossroads with Prince Regent's Lane. The shop's probably still called Roger's, I don't think the new owners have changed the name.
It's the kind of place that sells kitchenware, stationary, toys, batteries, lighbulbs, ornaments, you name it. There must be hundreds like it all over the place.
