ESPER Machine from Blade Runner

I've begun working on a 3D printable Esper machine from Blade Runner. The print and CAD files will be available for free on my MakerWorld account once it's completed and the test print is successful.

Well, that'll be quite the printo_Oo_O. Interested, of course...parts are still not seen clearly on that prop, especially the rear.
Eager to see your next update(y)(y)

Awesome! Will it be broken out into components so people can add their own real parts (ex. the Braun clocks)?

Looking fantastic so far! Can't wait to see the progress!
First of all, I have to say that I love your Blade Runner office room, awesome! Thanks :) Yes, the model will definitely be split into several components, to make it easier to print and past processing :) I will also put the CAD files (fusion360) in the download folder so that everyone can edit the file to build a "functional" prop out of it.

I anxiously await progress posts on this project. I would love to have a "functioning" esper in my office.

yes, that's true, unfortunately it's really not easy to find good pictures of the individual parts, and the correct scaling is also giving me a bit of a headache.

At the moment I'm waiting for two old Braun alarm clocks, so I can maybe then adjust the other parts to the same size.

Regarding the back: I've seen a few very nicely rendered 3D models where the back was also designed. But I think I'll go for technology from the 80s. If anyone here has more pictures of the Esper machine or even knows what equipment the prop was made from, I'd be very grateful!

I've dreamt of seeing this project come to fruition for years. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

The reference for this thing is so hard to come by and the images are practically in the dark and distorted. So hard to decipher and make definitive design choices on the details. Even the big stuff is unclear in spots.

AND like the VK machine, there are two versions of the prop to add even more confusion to the research.

after looking a little bit closer i think they used 3 different versions of braun alert clocks for the esper machine and a camamera flash on the right side, but i can not figure out what this thing on the upper left side is, maybe another part of a photocam or something. for the alert clocks i plan to also create printfiles after i got the ones i bought on ebay (still waiting)

I think that it's pivoting ( up-down motion) camera flash unit.;)
awesome! thank you, i think i found the flash unit they used for the prop with your help! pretty sure its a Sunpak Auto 544 Thyristor High Mount" or "Sunpak Thyristor Auto 4205G"

He had a vision about BR (and other of his movies)...If you're of the same opinion, you'll work well with him. ;)
I wish more directors were as passionate as Ridley. Or is it just me that a lot of movies are produced kinda half-heartedly these days? Anyway, I'm already really excited about the Blade Runner mini series that he's producing for Amazon

Did you look at propsummit.com for info about the Esper? Now that I think of it, the flash model/brand had already been found;)
