MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy- One Year Later Pic End of Page 12

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-3)

You attention to detail really sets this apart from all the other Iron Man builds. Great work.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-3)

My mouth nearly hit the floor!!
Great Job!
I agree with GJ your attention to detail is steller!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-3)

Thanks guys! Your kind words help me stay motivated on this thing, I've been working on it for two months and the amount of small details is really testing my patience and drive. Almost to the (first) finish line though!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-3-11, end of pg. 4)

MCL34N,
you have changed the iron man costuming world FOREVER
haha you do some great work man, and keep up all the crazy detail,

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-3-11, end of pg. 4)

A little bit of an update- I've finished the collar portion of the chest piece and my arc reactor, below are some pics!

and here are some pics of my LED setup in my arc reactor. They all face outwards, and are put in a small reflective dish to better diffuse the light-

Unfortunately the first time around they didn't all light up...

but with a little troubleshooting I was able to make my LED flower bloom!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

that . is . so . awesome
id love to see you make a carboard helmet!!!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

this build is amazing. It would probably rival that Macky guys suit when it comes to articulation , but that one is taking forever to get done

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

The Led setup is so creative!

Thanks! It was to solve the dilemma, how do you use those $1 store tap light LEDs since their terminal pins are so short and hard to solder together. I'd say in all this arc cost me about $10 to make. It's not perfectly accurate, but it has a great glow in photos and cool light pattern in real life. I've attached some pics below of how I did the arc. I found a PVC pipe as the outer casing, then cut the reflector dish out of a 2 ltr bottle so that it fit snugly in the PVC pipe. I put aluminum tape inside the bottle to reflect light, and a perfectly sized fast food cap that diffuses the light.

Thanks again for the kind words guys! I've been incredibly pleased with this project thus far. Every material I've used can be acquired at craft stores and hardware stores (minus some plastics, casting materials, etc. for the helmet) and in all it looks like my costs for this build are coming in at under $400 which I'm very pleased about! And if the rest of the build keeps going as planned, stay tuned for some cool stuff...

Who's suit are you talking about that it rivals? Macky?

@MCL34N

The glow is all I want for my own armor.
You never see the detail of the arc in the movie suit anyways.
I'd prefer just the bright glow like how yours turned out.

It's amazing how one of the coolest Iron man builds, is also one of the least expensive. :)

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

Haha thanks guys! Glad my suit is getting a good reaction. I'm sort of sprinting to the finish line now, I'm trying to make a deadline. So...

as I promised a while ago, I'll post lots of WIP photos of the chest. Here you go!

An evolution of my chest template- ( I think I even changed it a few more times after this photo was taken)

Work on the inner ring of the chest plate-
