MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy- One Year Later Pic End of Page 12

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

I'm just now finishing my second layer of primer on the helmet, I hope to have it all painted and ready to go by tonight, then finish the remaining work on the chest/back/arms and be done! I'll post some pictures as soon as I've covered some ground.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

Hi MCL34N! your work is astonishing! I just want to ask some questions if you don't mind and can I request for you to post pics if that's okay with you. First of all, you told us that you use cardboard as the structural framework of your armor. Then you cover the exterior of it with duct tape then you paint it?or prime it first then you paint it? how did you deal with the weave-like surface of the duct tape to make it smooth? what duct tape are you using? can you post the image here? Sorry for a bunch of questions, it only shows how interesting your work it for us. Thanks again.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

Hey ninjamove, yes I do build the structure of the armor with cardboard/craft foam and then cover it all in BURGUNDY duct tape, making it a close color. Then I highlight the duct tape with some red spray paint, and shadow it with some black, giving it a very metallic look. As far as the weave of the duct tape, when I'm buying my rolls of duct tape I look for the smoothest weave possible, making it look pretty nice!

Hope that helps!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

Thanks MCL34N! Looking closely on the images and video you had posted, there are no gaps or joins evident. It doesn't look like duct tape at all which makes it more awesome. Can't wait to see the final output of this. Cheers to you sir!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

my favorite thing about this build is that there are no gaps in the armor!
every other IM suit ive seen have has pretty big joint gaps.
oh and thanks for answering ninja's question. cleared up some confusion for me as well :)

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

Hey MCL34N do you strengthen your armor with anything, fiberglass, smoothcast, flooring enamel?

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

I believe he strengthens it with the "force" lol... but yeah I think it's just cardboard and some craft foam.. then a layer of duct tape, spray paint and voila!

Also don't forget that each piece is built in layers so it's more complex than our builds Dynamo. He builds inner structures and then builds up in pieces/layers... his chest actually has inner workings.. so that alone would add rigidity.

Correct me if I am wrong McLean.

Thanks for clarifying that Sir Jordan, :thumbsup reason I'm a asking is because of moisture. What's gonna happen when he sweats?

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

Haha I thought about sweat early on blackdynamo, I was also concerned with how the cardboard would react. Thankfully, very few pieces actually sit close enough to my body, to absorb sweat, and the rest are sealed from moisture. Hope to have an update on the chest and back tonight!

I eagerly await those update pics!

Salut,
bonne chance

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATE 4-6)

hahah
I just said He can make a suit out of whatever he'd like. He doesn't have to be limited to doing what I ddi with my armor. Mclean is doing great with cardboard and duct tape. I also suggested foam :)

p.s my french is lousy and I probably sound like a cave man to him. I don't know the word for foam so I used foam like how you would use for foam like shaving cream etc hahah :(
