MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

Re: Mattel Hoverboard

I would love to help the fans around the world. However, the minimum for us to run this pink metallized color is too great unless a large replica manufacturer wanted to have the genuine article and order sufficient yardage. Almost everyday we sell the clear honeycomb on sommers dot com. Sorry for the news. View attachment 540708

Out of curiosity what would "Sufficient Yardage" be to justify it on your end?

We supplied only for the original screen version. I have a few sheets in stock

At least 2,500 pounds which would equal over 3,000 yards. This is the difference pictured between the original Pink and a clear overlay BTTF P2054.jpg clear HC BTTF overlay.jpg

The HC version is better for modding due to the way it's made. Get one of those!

We would need to run 10,000 sq ft (roll size put ups are large. Width is 24"). I am working up a price for you and should have shortly...if this is serious.

Yeah based on the replacement cost of the genuine Matty Board. When did the prices go stupid on eBay? I bought mine for just $99 + shipping.

any special place you recommend ordering the HC board from? Wait... Isn't that the website itself lol whoops

thank you for your advice I'm going to order 2, 1 for back up encase I screw up. It looks like we will be having more accurate texture patterns real soon, this looks great!

whats the best thing to do for the magnets? Is the underside of the HC good or are there upgrade parts for them?

I'm sure I bought mine well after the end of the run. The condition of purchase with mine (the guy had 6 for sale) was that the 3" mini board would not be included. Care factor was 0 when I got the full size board in my hands. He was the only seller I found with boards less than $100. Everyone else had already jacked up the price to over $300. I recently saw a board for $800 and thought that was just being greedy.

I modded one for a mate of mine... when you unscrew the existing magnets, they leave a few ridges on the actual board (the Matty board has a big piece under theirs which houses the speakers if i remember correctly). I dremeled the ridges down, the replacement parts can be screwed to the bottom like any other board. I threw away the existing magnets (well, ebay'd them) and replaced them with accurate ones (if you're going to mod it, you might aswell do it right).

Where did you get your replacement accurate magnets from? I'd love to do the same.

The main thing wrong with them is the magnets and their holders are all the same height and there is no separation between them. The holders should be lower than the top face of the magnets. I had a look and I couldn't find any screen used boards like this anywhere.

Oh yeah, good call. I know anyone using the term 'screen accurate' is possibly over egging their wares because there were so many props used in different shots under different lighting in different conditions made of different materials etc., but you have pointed out a major flaw in this design. I won't be buying these then. Will wait and hope that formula388 can deliver something soon.

I'm not saying there definitely weren't any like this but I couldn't find one among all the auction photos I looked at, Bob Gale's photos, or all the screenshots I took from the BTTFII Blu-Ray.

Hi guys, I've been lurking on this thread for months and months and it's been pure enjoyment watching everyone here brainstorm.

Finally I have the chance to build my own hoverboard! I don't have the money to but a matty board so I am going to use an MDF base that I've found on eBay over here in the UK (I'm assuming it's an rpf member) :)

Ive read every page of this thread and thank you so much guys you've gave me every bit of info I need to make my own board.
Theres still a few things I could do with some help with from someone with experience if that's ok?

I want to build a 'hero' board and am I right in wondering that my best course of action is to print Roland's hero decals in A1 size?

I have only found one place that I can order the magnets and clamps from and that's a place called Goldenarmor over in the states, does anyone know of a better option or do they recommend them?

Still unsure about the shade of pink I should use for the base colour of the board.

ive checked the junkyard but I'm new to all of this and really am lost in all the options lol.

If anyone could help me then I'd really appreciate it (I feel cheeky asking so many questions with my first post and I apologise in advance)

Thanks for taking the time to read my questions.

Carl.
