MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

Wow this sucks! Mine are coming tomorrow and my excitement has now been replaced with fear. Im not eating 240 bucks if they are crap!

Scott Neitlich's snarky comments are infuriating! I have met him before when there was a terrible screw up on their part over Comic-Con pre-order vouchers and he was incredibly condescending to me face to face!

I don't know if anyone saw this earlier but this is Scott Neitlich's Work Voicemail at Mattell if you would like to give him a call and leave him a nice message on your feelings about being lied to!

Mods prob won't allow you to post that. They won't want the RPF to be a part of harassing anyone.

Here's the board taken apart.

I think the sound issues of the board come from the speaker unit used. The speaker is directly attached to the board, both with glue and screws. The vibration noticed probably due to that.

The Mattel magnets compared to MrSinistar's. That pink wedge is screwed down on top of the speaker, to keep it in place.

Can someone hookup some better speakers to see what it sounds like? to see if there is any difference? :confused

It still interesting that all the positive posters on the HB forum there are new members and out of CA.

Scott has answered on the Hoverboard forum and again has used the past excuses for why the board is what it is, while also bowing off the quality issues. Still a bit snarky.

Matty has not learned, they don't care and this is also what it is. That pretty much says it all for the culture at Matty at this point. So much potential totally wasted.

People, Start Calling Into corporate to complain, The CEO of Mattel is Bryan G. Stockton, Find his email or number somehow. Scott is full of ****.

This is outrageous.

And post this link everywhere possible. Even if they don't make a better one, they shouldn't get away with lie after lie.

I must say, Whoever Mattel used to ship my Board, I still have not got it !! It shipped on Dec. 4th, it showed it would deliver on the 12th, now saying the 14th . What ???, from CA. max should be 5-6 days ground service. I didn't want to pay for Express, but UPS or Fed -Ex Ground would have been 5 days. I just want to work on it and see what can be done. Did order a 2nd one to rip apart. LOL
Let's hope Mattel will do a re-boot on the Board or let a outside source do them right , w/handlebars & Lenticular this time. I would pay $200. for that with accurate parts on the back and no sounds . Also, we will take a Pit Bull Please!!

Haha, then we could tell Matty: Keep it. I've got a Pitbull now!

Wow Matty you had a GOLDEN GOOSE here....WOW!..And Scott...what a brown star! This is exactly what is wrong with the world. Guys like that don't deserve to represent a piece like that let alone ignoring the Fans here on theRPF who do have the talent and willingness to get it right once and for ALL!! ;)

Amen. We had one shot at having Mattel make a good board, and what kind of brand manager do we get? Scott Neitlich. Yuck.

Just imagine how things would have turned out if they would have kept Bob Gale in the loop, or actually LISTENED to any of the fans' helpful advice.

Whatever. This is seriously making me want to cover the Mattel logo on my board with one that says "Hasbro".

Thanks madmantrez for the photos.

Those electronics the hoverboard is housing are an absolute and CHEAP mess.
I really doubt the board costs Mattel more than $30-$35 to make.

Cheap plastic + 2 cheap stickers + a little bit of cheap velcro + cheap electronics.

They could've make the lenticular with no problem at all. Maybe they'll earn $15-$20 less with each board, so that's the reason they didn't include lenticular. They're doing like at the discos... selling water at whisky's price.

As I said before, I'm getting it, but I'll modify it (not to the level of completely dissassembly it). One of the things I want to do is to repaint, level the recessed channel and apply new velcro and strap to the footpad. Can it be extracted without taking the whole board apart? If not, it'll be difficult to do, but I'll try to make it anyway.

Once again, thanks for the photos.

Mattel lives for the bait and switch. I think one of their biggest problems is they don't their market. They know how to make cheap kids' toys, but they don't know collectors. Based on their approach to the recent Voltron release--a toy made as if for little kids but sold at outrageous collector prices--I would run the opposite direction from anything Mattel claims is a high-end collectable.
