MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

I figured that I would wait until I got it before deciding if i'd keep it or not but after seeing that demo video Scott posted, I decided to cancel. it sounds like a fricken lightsaber!!!

Still would like to get one of these... If someone is planning on canceling their order, please let me buy your pre order instead! Missed out on the initial pre order!

Doesn't one of the boards that Bob Gale had have the bevel on the bottom, but round on the top of the board?

Absolutely... but there are more beveled boards than rounded boards. I think the general consensus is that the bevels are more attractive than rounded off edges.

Im guessing mattel didnt ask Bob gale the following question..

why do you continue to say Crispin Glover wanted twice the money as Michael J Fox, and that is why he wasnt in part 2, when the truth is, you were beeped off that he came up to you, to question the ending of part one, and doesnt crispin glover have more integrity in his little finger, than yourself, since you have lied about it for 25 years, and he just has recently broken his silence?

Because the truth hurts and is pride swallowing...:lol

How do you know Crispin is not lying out of his ass?

First off, those sound effects are horrible. That's a wooosh sound and not the sine-wave wobbly synth sound that's in the movies. That being said, who cares now.

I'm keeping my board so I can show off how much more accurate my foam hoverboard is when compared to the Matty one. :lol

Those SFX could have been lightsaber noises for all I could tell from that. :lol They didn't sound very good to me, and it definitely sounded like some unwanted vibration from the board near the end there.

Personally I think this falls short of being either a good prop or a good toy. It's not accurate enough to be a replica, and it really isn't a functional toy either.
Despite their attempts to simulate gliding/sliding, it's not something you can ride around like a skateboard, so I guess you're just supposed to sit there and move it from side to side and say "wow, it made a noise when I moved it slightly left. This will provide me with hours of fun and entertainment."

I'd be interested to know if the number of cancellations has made a serious dent here, although I don't suppose Matty would really want to reveal those kinds of figures....

If I read the last few posts correctly, the reason the Matty Hoverboard isn't accurate is to get back at Crispin Glover...

I very seriously doubt it has even made a superficial scratch in the grand scheme of things.

I'm definitely leaning in that direction too (not sure if my post made it sound otherwise).
The people who are unhappy enough about this to want a refund have apparently been vocal enough about it for Matty to have noticed and allowed cancellations, so I'd be interested to know how it has translated in reality.

It's just a matter of corporate economics, nothing else.

When this relatively trivial matter in Mattel's eyes was (finally) brought to the attention of someone who has an ounce of experience in business, the choice was simple : pay the corporate lawyers thousands of dollars to reply to potential, and again, relatively trivial, legal complaints, or refund a couple of dozen pre-orders.

Simple choice.

It is not a matter of Mattel giving in to pressure, just another normal business decision that saves money.

You're right, and I agree.
But a guy can still be curious about the figures, right? :behave

I just called to cancel my order, I was told "Matty collector does not allow cancellations" WTF I read the what the web said and then was put on hold for 20 minutes!!!! But she said they were going to send me an email within 2 days.....WOW they suck

I had the same so I sent 5 cancellation emails, all very legal and all pointing to Seans post. See what they do about THAT

Lol, note that he says "close to final" and "pre-production" design. Maybe some hope after all........let's all take a minute to roll our eyes............................................................................................
...................................... :rolleyes

OK that felt good.:lol

If they do do anything at all to improve the design, I'd hope they at least fix that foot strap. (And get the lenticular, among other things, but really who cares anymore. It ain't gonna happen)

One thing I just thought about while watching that video. The board turns on while horizontal. A lot of people will want to display the thing horizontal. Unless they included an on-off switch, or a shut-off timer, this thing can't be displayed horizontally. If there is a switch, that wouldn't be very movie accurate, now would it?:lol

Which is probably why they included a diagonal display stand.

They have confirmed that only minor internal tweaks are to be done, NOTHING from the external is going to change, it's all going to stay in it's horrid, inaccurate state. Epic fail.

Has that been confirmed anywhere?

I asked that question in the mattycollector.com forum but didn`t get a reply while later questions were answered. Maybe they are still working on the stand to be be as movie accurate as humanly possible...
