MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

Honestly, I think it's fair... and 25 bucks for the light version is super fair. It basically costs that much to get a decal made anyway.

It takes time to print, laminate, cut, apply velcro, and die cut screw parts, make the footpad.

You are also paying for the effort and weeks that went it to making the graphic, the time it took to get the correct color velcro (which is hard to find - I know because I've gone through a lot of up suppliers), and the time it took to match it up exactly to the Mattyboard.

Hell, he provided the provided the graphic for free. I am happy to hand over that kind of money for providing the kick ass graphic in the first place.

It's a convenience charge... and at the end of the day he has to make it worth his while. I don't think there are enough hours in the day to make one full upgrade kit and charge 30 bucks for it. It simply isn't worth it to someone with a full time job.

I can't wait to get it in the mail and slap it on my board in under 5 minutes. :love

I foresaw a justification post right after I put that to be honest.

I did say I would have to save up, so I do intend to get one. It's not that I don't think it's decent, what with the materials used and the print itself.

I just can't currently justify spending $70 on the whole set, when the board itself already cost me somewhere between $120-$160 in the first place.

I'm sure for some folk that often have money to spare it's no problem.
I'd probably be more willing to shell out $50 maybe even $60 on the set as of current, but I just don't have the right kind of funds coming in to be able to throw $70 on it and what is essentially a "gift to me".

It's great work though. Just a little pricey for me personally.

... Would you sell the footpad upgrade only as I don`t have the money for the whole set at the moment and the footpad bothers me the most...

Since these are sales related questions, I would recommend to discuss it in my sales thread in the junkyard. Read my answer there. ;)

Understood... I just saw the "what's worth the work for the money factor" for Roland. Would he rather make and sell 28 kits at 20 dollars each (making $560) or make and sell 8 kits at 70 dollars each the same amount of money.

It sucks for the consumer, but simply makes sense from his perspective.

Hey guys I am new here, been following the forums for a while so I might as well join! I joined to purchase an upgrade kit from Roland! Dude the Mattel version was so AWFUL good thing I got BTTF123 upgrade kit but now that I can get some of Roland's Decals it will make my mattel board that much sweeter! If anyone is interested my pop punk band just shot a music video last weekend and we featured the Mattel hoverboard in it as a gimmick it has BTTF123 upgrade on it! Enjoy it =) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sakmabSB94

Hoverboard display idea... I am going to add a plaque for the front.

I just took a black board and carefully laid the pebbles on it. I need to find a way to glue them down... I put a plexiglass box in the middle for it to sit on. You can buy them at a store like Michaels.

I bought the handlebars off of Ebay when Tim was making them. :)

Cool looks nice. I was trying to think of a way to replicate the street/floor of 2015 but I can't think of it. The closest I could think of is have it say "no landing" or something along those lines.

That's awesome! I've always liked the board hovering over the gravel, emphasizing the lack of wheels. It's something a skateboard could never do. Same reason I've always like this picture:

I think that's an excellent display idea. I would just buy some clear epoxy to coat the pebbles in before pressing them into the tray you made. That's how people make pebble walkways. The epoxy from here is some of the cheapest, but highest quality epoxy you can get, and is often used for this: AeroMarine Products - Rock and Pebble Paving System for Driveways, Patios, and Pool Decks

In addition to this, you might consider burying the plexi base beneath the rocks so that you're left with only the vertical plexi projection visible. Great display idea.

Thanks guys...

Yeah, I have always felt the same way about the gravel. It's interesting for a hovering prop.

Spyhunter2k, I will certainly be looking into getting that epoxy. :)

PM sent. :)

He talked about your spelling of his user name. He's Vinz, not Vans. ;)

No, no! Don't even worry about it. It's "Vinz" not "Vans", Ahh, Roland's already got this covered. No worries, Wes! Just a little joke, man. No ill will intended. :)

Can't wait, this looks absolutely amazing. Looks as great as it possibly could, i'm so excited to get these, and SO happy I got to help make them a reality.

Hahahahaha! Sorry for the late answer and also for the mispelling Vinz! I just notice that I wrote wrong when Roland talked about it. Truly sorry! ;)

Roland, i got your PM and I'll reply very soon! ;)

Vinz... I SAID Vinz!!! :lol, I'm just waiting to see your applied decals. Do you think is possible to you to record a video meanwhile you're doing the decal's application? Should be very nice to see!

Looking further! :)

Oooo... That's interesting... don't know if i'd be able to do that, i'm not so good on that side of the camera. Usually i'm behind it, hah. But i'll see what I can do! I'm just afraid i'll screw it up while being nervous :lol
